Time-Warner (we know what kooks own/run that corp.) is testing a new way pricing of internet service by metering it. They are testing in Texas and billing will be measured byr your downloads according to gigabytes.

There you go! Again trying to control the masses. They want us to have the technology but they are afraid that we have become too educated, too bold and have  too much communication with one another.  Those with $$$ will have the power and knowledge, those without the $$$ will be left out. That is the way I see it. I don't think it is just a way of making a buck I think it goes deeper than that (and I have never been too much of a conspiracy freak).

If they are successful more Internet providers will join them in their endeavor.

I think it is about money and greed.
The cable, phone, internet businesses all see the American public as a cash cow.
They will bleed us dry.
I am looking for a company that will provide cell, phone, cable, and internet all for $100 per month.
Look, MetroPC came along with $50/mo for cell, others demand hundreds for the same service, now they are all competing.
Only one has to be reasonable and the others will either get competitive or watch their customer base dwindle to nothing.

Ironically this idea did not come from the provider itself it is a “spin off” of a move by the government to place a tax on Internet usage...the “method” of establishing a usage record was developed so that local government can implement a new tax for use on the net , Orange county attempted to enact a 10 cent an hour tax 2 years ago but had problems determining when users where on line ...but the bandwidth meter will make it easy for them to tax us now !

I forget the name of the company in Quebec Canada that tried this years ago. It wasn't to long after that a Seagram's offshoot company bought them out.

I'd hope consumers switch to comcast, at&t or whatever to send a message.

So Typical...remember back in the day when water came out of the tap and wasnt a dollar a bottle? Or when we could turn on the tv, maybe not have 100 channels ..but the air waves were free we just paid for power. Remember when healthly food didnt cost more than packaged foods.Better yet ..remember when fuel was under $1.00 a gal? Pretty soon we will be charged for the air we breathe.
Hmmmmmmm, gotta love being raped by corperate America.....NOT

Twizlled you are so right, and the memories you just brought back. Sigh! I wonder if back in the day, what we went through then is now considered as "roughing it?" I feel so old all of sudden. lol.

I do remember when the aol was first starting didn't they have a set service fee for so many hours and then if you went over you were charge for overtime? I sort of remember because it would kick you off if you were idle and didn't the bill show how many hours you were on the internet? I just faintly remember something like that.

Its going backwards in time! A decade ago I remember buying internet time with AOL! Then cable came along and the idea you could just leave yourself logged on was incredible!

What I smell here is some liberals trying to nail the consumer from what they think is yet another part of life they will pay any price for. Sorry but this isn't fuel for the car guys... Go ahead and charge then... Everyone will just go to the next company. Only way that won't work is if you go to the FCC (i.e government) and force every provider to do it.)

IOWs. Big Tobbacco, Microsoft, Big Oil, and now Big Internet! Hey... Yahoo/Google types had profit margins in the 25 to almost 30% field! Big Oil was only 8 to 9%!

Cont. Is it just me or do I smell the ultra liberals trying to add Internet to the pile of things they would like to see "socialized?"

Why is it the liberals are trying so hard to make American resemble Europe, meanwhile Europe is trying to branch out and look more like America? Canada now shook off liberalism, France is swinging away with its new leader, Austraila is cementing a conservative tone....

Abunai~

I remember paying AOL for dial up service then switching to another service because they offered the same service for $9 a month.

The goverment has been looking into charging for emails, since they realised all the money they were losing from the letters not being sent.

Whats this new Carbon foot print tax they are talking about charging us???? Dang Goverment, If I could afford it I would buy a mountain top & build a log cabin, have a garden and hunt for my food.. Screw the goverment and their taxes.... (ok back to reality) Im stuck in the same boat as everyone else.... ;o(

We are a FREE country, Please someone tell me whats free about it? There are laws for everything from spitting on the sidewalk to farting in public.. A man cant fly a flag on his own private property if he wants, we are taxed to death even if we do not use a certain service,

Doesn't surprise me one bit that Time-Warner,
the company that continues to bring us the over-bloated, ad-spewing, corporate circle-jerk of an internet service...AOL would come up
with something like this.

After all, they have to make up for all
of the free service they are forced to give
away when a customer tries to leave them
after a few years of dealing with the garbage.
And believe me, A LOT of people have left them!

My parents were offered FREE AOL after
trying to leave after 6 years. I guess it's the
only way for them to keep injecting scumware
into the customer's machines. I still can't
believe they use the BLEEP for email evident
by me having to remove some sort of viruses or trojans just about every other week on their machine.

Now they want to find a way to tax based on usage??!!?? Time Warner, stick with what your good at...selling overpriced CDs of forgotten
music on TV!

Well, the only way this will ever happen is like Abunai said. The government would have to force EVERY ISP to adhere to this crazy plan.
If Time Warner alone did it, they would have zero customers almost immediately!
I have never had AOL because of all the BLEEP you have to download to use it.

I left AOL over a decade ago when they tried to tell me that I MUST leave my cookies on. I told them no, and that I would replace them, and their attitude was nobody provided the service they did... LOL I dropped them and went to a local dial-up that was actually faster and for a better price!
