I walked into the break room today at work and a co-worker was looking so down and on the verge of tears.  I asked her what was wrong and she said she was worried and scared. I asked her what she was afraid of and she said, "I heard that gas was going to be $7 a gal by the end of the year. I will not be able to afford to drive to work. My husband and I won't be able to make it on his salary."  They are a young frugal couple with a 3 year old boy.  I had to tell her we are all afraid and some more than others.

My heart goes out to the Americans that are really starting to get scared and are really starting to feel the pain of the fuel prices and high taxes.  I could only give her a hug and tell her that whatever comes her way will be coming my way and to millions of others in America. We will stand up together and survive.

Then I went home so blue.  I had to really think about why she was hurting and how scared she was.  This is America. We have made it through hard times. I just had to go to a website and remind myself of 9/11.  I had to remember again how scared I was on that day.  How much in shock I was for days to come.  How hopeless everything seemed for about 2 weeks or so.  After watching that video over I got mad.  The assault on us didn't end on 9/11 we are still being assaulted and now it is our economy by oil.  Our enemies from within and on the outside know our weaknesses and we have forgotten our own strengths.

We can band together and take our country back.  Obama isn't our hope, McCain isn't the answer.   It is us.  You and Me. We are the ONLY ones that can do it.

Perhaps you need to revisit the helplessness and heartbreak of  9/11 to motivate you...I know I did.

Great post, RL! Yes, scary times indeed. Hey, I'm only three weeks into a new job. Perhaps the recession that we're now in will be enough to quell demand for oil and we will see prices relax.

BTW: You need to be careful when reminding people about 9/11/01. Remember how President Bush was chastised by the libs when his re-election campaign in '04 ran TV ads showing the WTC in flames?

Heaven forbid we should rekindle those emotions in our fellow Americans.

RandyLoo - We are finally seeing how the trickle down theory actually works. What isn't being affected by the price of oil?
Many people are scared like your co-worker. Many young people just starting out don't have anything to fall back on. And how about the elderly on fixed incomes? Interest rates down on their CD's, values down on their stock market investments so maybe those withdrawals need to be reduced so the money doesn't run out too soon. But oh yeah, their SS checks increased 2.3% this year because that's what the government claimed the COL increase was (and they didn't even receive the 2.3% because the med insurance went up). You are right, it's certainly not Obama or McCain, it's up to us. That young lady at your job is lucky to have a co-worker like you.

FloydFreak - RandyLoo reminding us that we have been through tragedies before & survived is a little different than a politician trying to use a national tragedy to get elected.

Hey RandyLoo, why do you think HR1955 passed w/only 6 votes against? As S1959, judging from the House votes, sails(?) through this summer it will soon make you a possible enemy combatant and all that that implies to act upon trying to change the status quo. Your above words of a call to action will carry consequences. Sucks don't it? But hey, we'll be safer. Just remember, they hate us cuz of our freedoms....

I agree w/DEOP, it's one thing to remember and another for a politician to use fearmongering to garner votes.

D: IMHO, said politician was not trying to use a national tragedy to get elected. He was using his HANDLING of said national tragedy (which, again IMHO, was exemplary) to get RE-elected.

But you're certainly entitled to your opinion.

hehehehehehe..... I guess you didn't see the 04 GOP commercial w/the Wolves? All the GOP ads were Be Afraid! Be Very Afraid! Vote for Kerry and be attacked. That pretty much sums it up. Except all those ubl tapes before the election.

Too bad this administration didn't act back in the summer of 2001 when those reports were stacking up that an attack was coming.... Instead of being on vacation most of that year, perhaps September 11th could have been prevented? But, we'll conveniently forget about all that unpleasantness and say this administrations 'handling' after the fact was exemplary.... More like incompetent.

One question for the gallery: Have we been attacked subsequent to 9/11/01?

The defense rests.

Thank you for this post, Loo. We are a country of survivors and in times of trouble have always come together to find a solution or to support each other.
What is that old saying, When the going gets tough, the tough get going. Well, now it's time to start getting tough and to start going. Instead of crying in our beer, it is time to re-evaluate our lives and starting coming up with new ways to deal with what life is handing out. If it means cutting back on luxuries or changing the way we do things, that it what it's going to take.
No one is defenseless in times of trouble but neither is anyone stuck with having to do the same things the same ways we are used to doing it.
It's time to face the challange and do something for ourselves and not rely so much on the things we have been taking for granted.

Thanks FloydFreak, you're certainly entitled to your opinion too.

As for your question “Have we been attacked subsequent to 9/11/01?” - guess it depends how you look at it.

Does the question mean a major attack on our soil killing thousands? If so, I guess we have to leave out the anthrax mailings. We would also have to leave out the D.C. sniper attacks (John Allen Muhammad & Lee Boyd Malvo), even though authorities claimed that Muhammad admitted that he admired and modeled himself after bin Laden & al Qaeda and that he approved of the 09/11 attacks. BTW - how often were previous terrorist attacks on our soil that killed thousands?

Does the question mean it has to be certified by the government that it was an attack by terrorists? If so, then we’ll have to leave out: Jeff Weise, Terry Ratzmann, Kyle Huff, Charles Carl Roberts IV, Suleiman Talovic, Cho Seung-hui, Tyler Peterson, Robert A Hawkins, Matthew J Murray, Charles Lee Thornton, Steven Karmierczak, Jessie Dotson, Steven Sueppel, & Wesley N Higdon - along with any other mass murderers on U.S. soil since 09/11/01 that I left out.

Does the question not include the attacks & murders of thousands of Americans on foreign soils?

Here’s a question for you - If you were a Mickey Mouse fan, would you always travel to California even after someone put Mickey in Orlando?

A question you asked like it negates the fact that intelligence of a coming attack was (gee, what's the appropriate word?) misplaced? Ignored? Miscommunicated? Not taken seriously?

No we haven't been attacked again. Tho, according to Joe Lieberman & John McCain and a couple of other Republicans, another attack would be great for the GOP in November. At least we don't hear the Democraps wishing for another attack to further their political agenda.

Tell me Floyd, if (God Forbid) another attack occurs, would that be considered an impeachable offense? Or is it still lying about an oral sex act w/an intern that gets one impeached?

No, we should never forget. We should also make sure all those 'roadblocks' have been taken down. Which, unfortunately, hasn't occurred. Why that is, I'm not sure.... I think they said something about 'not enough money'. Yet we still have enough to send billions in aid to other countries. What's up w/that? Vets are living on our streets and we send aid to other nations? Our infrastructures are crumbling but we have enough monies to send other nations monies? Hello.......

If it wasn't for the fact that the Clintons at that time were trying to drive a spike between the FBI and the CIA causing them to be foes instead of allies meaning intelligence was a competition instead of a twart towards attacks and Billyboy could not stop playing golf long enough to make ONE phone call to lock up Osama when he was captured the FIRST TIME 9/11/01 would not have happened. When Bush came into office it not was not the first time Osama had been mentioned,so you might want to back up your little history lesson just a few years.

Yeah, back to when anything Bubba might have tried to do was looked at as an excuse to take the 'heat' of off him & Monica? That history?

Yeah, back when the Republican party was salivating all over itself over Bubba's indiscretions? Both parties had their eyes off the 'terrorist' ball so they could puff themselves up as to whom was more moral. Just how many of those who stood up all self-righteously while they too carried on affairs? Newt comes to mind first.

Bubba may have left a mess, but Dubya hasn't done so well in cleaning it up either.

But, what politician ever does?

Grew up in the good ol' 50's and 60's. I am opininated, sappy, sentimental and love my Country..but hate where it is headed (socialists scare the bejeebers out of me). I want to retire but can't afford to do so. Love the outdoors. Believe in right to carry arms for protection and sports. Married to a wonderful guy that knows the way to my heart is buying me a load of potting soil from the rock and gravel man.
