July 4, 2008   What a day it was!

Look at the despondent, dejected, demoralized faces of all of those servicemembers, caught in an unwinnable quagmire of a war against their will, tricked into serving by the Evil BushCheneyNeoconHalliburton Cabal, all 1,215 of them. Look at the armed guards holding them at gunpoint as they’re forced to recite the Oath as they re-up.

These poor souls, are so dejected  that they had to re-up because they feel  so remorseful for kicking the butts of Al Qaeda almost to the edges of Iraq, in fact, they have done such a horrible job that almost all of the insurgents have been beaten out of Iraq and they are running like heck to open country. Well our poor soldiers will have some explaining to do when Obama gets over there to surrender them all, Lo! there won't be anything for the Democrats to surrender. Sorry about that Barry, but that is the way the USA Troops do their job.

Anyone care to post some nasty comments?

I can't wait to hear the first nasty or snide comment! I know you lefties are chomping at the bit to say something here. Give it your best shot! The first one of you to say they "support the troops but not the war" is a tired old hack and should stop towing the party line!*lol* Come on, the lady dared you! Come to think of it, I dare you too!

For reasons of their own, the liberal Left seem to be conveniently out-of-touch with the progress being made by coalition efforts in Iraq. Could it be they [liberals] believe failure in the Middle East will guarantee their political victory in election 2008? That would certainly be the highest price tag anyone could set for power and personal gain. So far, it appears a "price tag" the Left is quite willing to pay for with the fate of our armed forces...despicable!

No, no snide comments here! These men stand there as proud testimony to the fact they believe in what they are doing, and therefore we should too! After all, why should we whine? It's their butts on the line not ours! This is an image of what a true patriot does - stand in any country, raise our flag and defend what we believe.

Too bad some in this country are too ashamed to even face the flag and say the "Pledge of Allegience!"

R/L what happened to the pic ??? Its gonna be interesting on how Obama and the dems try to spin this one.Obama could walk all around Iraq with out a flap jacket or a helmet cause all the extreamist and terrorist what him to be president. This way they could have someone to sit down with unconditionally and talk about their problems over cookies and milk.He is already stumbling over his flip floped speeches, kinda sounds like John Kerry........I voted for the war before I voted against the war.

I support our troops 150% and really feel for them AND their families. At least when the flag comes in the room all of our service men and women have the respect to salute it and not stand there like a statue and we all know who I'm talking about here.

The "liberals" believe that anyone who refuses to allow others to respond to his posts should stay in his own haughty little hole and not participate in the discussion with those who understand and appreciate freedom of speech..

I have never seen a bigger hypocrite.

These men and women are doing a job that most of us don't want to or can't do. GOD bless them and GOD bless us if that yahoo gets into office. I recently saw a piece of video where he said he refused to salute the flag or say our pledge. What kind of American is he? Or should I ask, what country is he acutally standing for? He is a horendous example of a US citizen and on his beleifs alone I can't beleive that he has even made it into office anywhere except maybe as head dog catcher.....

Amen to you tazzesmom and to you to yellowdog. I can't believe that anyone would want to support a man that won't salute the flag of the country he's running for. What is wrong with these people that follow him around like a bunch of hungry puppies? Can't they see what he is? Come on people wake up!!! And yellow dog you are soooo right. What a HYPROCRITE. He has no problem responding to our blogs but don't want us to respond to his high and mighty self. Like I said before. If YOU CAN'T STAND THE HEAT GET OUTTA THE KITCHEN!!!!!!

Source: DOD

FACT: Total # of active military personnel in 2003===1,423,348

FACT: Total # of active military personnel in 2007===1,380,082 (2007 is latest credible source I could find, 2008 to be released next month by DOD)

DOD website says recruiting/enlistment is above average..if that's the case reenlistment must be down.
The issue with you "conservatives" you have blinders on. You don't look at both sides.

Mustang or anyone that shares his opinion: AN INVITATION TO SPEAK

On Aug. 22nd 2008 in Tampa, my wife and I, a few others, are hosting a retirement party for a Brigadier General that has been a friend of mine for almost 20 years. He just retired after 22 years of service. There will be about 40 others there with us. I would like you to come speak to all of us. Everyone there will have at least 20 years of service, in one branch or another. All will have retired within the last two years.
Please come tell us, in person, not hiding behind your monitor, that we are tired old hacks that shouldn' support our troops 150%, but do not give 1% of support to the Iraq war. Let me know if your interested, I will give you the time and place.

Ok...did we go back to not getting email notices? Where did all these replies come from?!*lol*

erik,

Come back when you have numbers for enlistment goals. Then you can do your math. I notice you didn't have any nasty or snide comments to make about those who reenlisted. Good boy!

The trouble with you "liberals" is you state partial facts and then make up the rest to suit you. Sometimes you only need to hear a bell to know it's been rung. You don't have to see the bell or the hammer!

Regardless of wheather or not reenlistment is down, these men and women are not being forced to enlist. They are making a life altering decision not just for them but their families. They are stationed all over the world defending us and protecting us in ways that we can't even dream about, putting their lives on the line for us daily and big mouth idiots spout garbage and won't say our pledge or the Hollywood hypocrites that threaten to leave America if Bush doesn't pull out, well, you know what, leave, go somewhere else and spout your garbage. Go see what other countries will let you live happily ever after when you start bad mouthing their government....

As an American born and bred it really upsets me when I see people disrespecting our country and our flag. Hundreds of thousands of our Americans have given the ultimate sacrifice for our country some of my ancestores included. They did this to give us the rights and freedoms we have here, freedom of speech being one of them. These men and women are putting their life on the line for us every single day and they deserve to be respected and honored as none others can. Obama wants to be president of our country but won't respect our flag and that is just like a slap in the face to all that are fighting and that have died for us. How dare he disrespect our country like that! Our service men and women are some of the bravest men and women in the world and they should be respected every day for doing what they are doing for us. Giving us the freedom to respond here, worship as we see fit, and celebrate our freedom. I would gladly hug every soldier for doing what he or she is doing. God bless each and every one and may they come home soon. ALIVE!!

My numbers all came off the DOD website. Go there if you don't believe it. Of course I don't have any snide remarks about our patriots reenlisting. I served in the U.S. Marine Corp for 20 years. What facts do I have wrong? If my facts are wrong then the DOD is wrong. I tend to belive them over you. You come back when you are willing to take me up on that offer to come talk to some of the people that have been protecting you and your familys freedom and tell them what you believe about supporting the troops.

tazzesmom...Our military has a policy called STOP LOSS...You obviously have never heard of that or you would not have stated no one is forced to enlist. I know many soldiers, enlisted and officers that were forced to reenlist due to the STOP LOSS policy.

Janice,
I agree about the soldiers. They should be held with the highest respect. But that does not mean that I have to support the Iraq war. I also know personally, many military personnel that have reenlisted, some do not support the Iraq war, but they took an oath.

erik,

I never doubted your number. I said you left out the "enlistment goals"! You know, the number that would explain if the recruiting/enlistment acuyally is above average as you doubted. Shows how you only read part of what I said. Hence the "partial facts" comment I made.

I don't agree with this war either but I sure do have the up most respect for those over there when I'm sure they don't want this war either. I just want them ALL to come home where they belong so we can keep them safe. I hate it when they come home in caskets. It's a sinking feeling knowing another one of our fellow American's has made the ultimate sacrifice for all of us.

"Blinders On" I am seeing what I am seeing, proud soldiers in unison taking the oath to serve OUR Nation. I don't care if the enlistment is down or up ...I am looking at this one scene, nothing more and nothing less. It is these soldiers, in this hall, on 7/4/2008 that is the focus.
So Erik stand up and give them a big round of applause and don't look at those DOD facts for the moment...that is for another blog in time.

JANICE,

You win the "tired old hack" award for being the first to say you don't agree with the war but support the troops. Here's your trophy!*lol*

By the way, we don't need to keep THEM safe, they need to keep US safe! That is after all why they signed up in the first place! And another thing, if they didn't want to be in this war either, they would have never reenlisted!

I don't know all that much about world affairs. I don't know if we were duped into this war or if the need was geniune. Since we didn't uncover weapons of mass destruction or Obama Bin Laden in Iraq. And afterall, people in that part of the world have been fighting and killing each other for thousands of years and probably will not be stopping any time soon. But I'm pretty sure that most Americans were all for this War at least at first based on the information we were given.

But if I may add my small input, which is that my daughter has served one tour in Irag already driving in the convoys that travel throughout that desolate place. And now she is here with me on leave for 30 days prior to re-deployment on "Stop-Loss" status for a minimum of 15 months. Her attitude is positive. I'm not so sure I would be so brave.

I like the original theme of this blog. That all of those young, and some not so young, men and women who serve deserve to be honored. On that I think we all can agree. My daughter tells me that she is humbled by the warm reception she got out in public when she traveled back home. Let's continue to show that individual support to them when we get the chance. We never know which ones will make it back home and which ones will not. They need those handshakes and pats on the back.

Didn't leave out any numbers, left you the source you can find them yourself....They're there, you just have to look. They didn't actually give numbers, one of their links was a story from the DOD that said it was above average. I didn't dig deep enough for actual numbers.
Looks like you only read part of what people say, (BLINDERS) when did I say I doubted those numbers. Almost like RL saying don't look at the facts...
THEY HAVE MY APPLAUSE, EVERY DAY, NOT JUST THAT DAY.
