Did you see the story about the new "I believe" license plate making its way through the Legislature?

Don't even get me started on the Constitutional arguments around a government-produced license plate that promotes Christianity. I assume the Bush packed Supreme Court won't raise an eyebrow.

What really irritates me is the fact that the Legislature is working on this - and hammering out a compromise on a new state song - instead of working on things like property tax reform and the insurance crisis.

While you are at it, let's see if you can get this question right. Explain the separation of church and state! Especially the part of about "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion ..."

I hope you get it right.

To answer your blog about the license plates, those who DONT believe will not be forced to buy one so don't worry about it. I don't believe in FSU and thank GOD I don't have to buy their plate! *lol*

Now go back and answer my question please. If you can.

What about all the other save the _______ plates?????? What about the pro-life ones??? What about the stop child abuse ones???? I'm sure perverts and people who beat their kids are not interested in them either...........

What about the space shuttle ones?????? I know a lot of people WHO are against that!! They consider the space program a waste of money!!!

Why don't you call them up and ask for a new plate that HAS A GARBAGE CAN with dollar bills falling out of it.... (I might buy this one. rotflmbo

I don't even understand the fuss.
It just says I believe...It doesn't say in what.
Maybe it's "I believe...in The Man"
Maybe it's "I believe...in ghosts"
Maybe it's "I believe...Some American's would like to make a mountain out of a mole hill"

You're right. There's other more important things to worry about than a stupid license plate. Get a life. You're not forced to buy it.

Over the past 230 years the the Constitution has been defined by precedent setting rulings and amendments.

NOBODY believes that the concept of "seperation of Church and State" rests on only on the original wording (nor does the second amemdment only pertain to a militia).

Promotion or restriction of any religion is broadly prohibited. It is our only hope for protection from zealots like Falwell (rest his soul) and Ronda.

BTW, a State Prosecutor in Miami has her drawers bunged because she saw a license plate which read T**T (second letter W, third A). How did that one slip past the "plate Nazi's"?

The part of the Constitution that reads "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion ..." means the government can't create a religion like Henry the 8th did when creating the Church of England.(because he was pissed at the Pope) No where in there does it say that religious beliefs must be seporate from the government. Have you noticed where is says "In GOD We Trust" on our money? Hmmmm? It's people like you and liberal judges that twist and pervert the ORIGINAL MEANING of our founders to suit your narrow view of the world.

Now, a rational person would take that to mean that you don't have the right to cram your religion down my throat.

After all, many of the earliest settlers of this country came here to escape religious persecution.

But it's not enough that we can worship in our own way in this country. The Christian right is so paranoid that someone might figure out its hypocrisy that it has to invade our schools, our bedrooms, and even our money.

When is enough enough???

Live with it or move? Why don't you take up residence at the Vatican? I'm sure they'd be happy to accommodate your nut job views.

"Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion" means just that! Thay cant establish a religion! That means start one! LIKE HENRY THE 8TH DID! HE ESTABLISHED A NATIONAL RELIGION! CHURCH OF ENGLAND! EVER HEARD OF IT?

A course in Constitutional Law 1 may help you understand the "living" document stang.

Many RWNJ's (who mostly claim to be Christians, even though they do not fully understand the main message of Christ to "love your neighbor as yourself") believe we are a "Nation founded under Christ". A "Christian nation.

They rail against the attack of their "Christian values". A false argument indeed.

You will not find the word "Christ" anywhere in the words of the founders. Neither will you find Mohammed, Budda or the Pope.

You will find "God". This is the God of the three major religions: Christians, Jews and Muslims (who share the same God).

I know the truth hurts, but suck it up lad, you are a big boy.

Your ignorance of the workings of the Constitution says it all.

God has always been allowed on the currency.

To insert religion into a public building is crossing the line. If a predominately Hindu town wanted to put a sacred cow in the lobby would you approve?

How about a Shia town which wanted a a prayer rug in the foyer?

That has nothing to do with CREATING a state run religion! There already IS a religion being practiced by Americans. Unlike when Henry the 8th made one up because he was pissed at the Pope, and then OUTLAWED the exsisting Catholic church, no one is trying to CREATE a religion from scratch. That's what "...establishment of religion" means! You pathetic boob! Your lack of historical knowledge is surpassed only by your lack of logical thinking! You sound a lot like the other liberals on here that compare things that are uncomparable! Are you related to another blogger we cal Mr Rickles?

The answer is YES! I dont care what they do! If it's the will of that community, then so be it! I'm not so offended by someone beliefs that I want to tell them they cant display items of their faith! Why? So that they cant tell me what to display either! I would love to see more of the wise words from ALL religions displayed in our public places! Buddha and Mohamed had as many wise things to say as Jesus and Moses! Why is it that you people on the left that preach tolerance for alternate lifestyles, get so pissy when it comes to religious tolerance!?

That statement precisely sums up what's wrong with Christian conservatives like yourself, and shows how your narrow-mindedness fogs your understanding of history and the rights of others.

Do you really believe that there is only one religion being practiced in this country? You neocons are so fond of calling Obama a Muslim - which he's not - so you must recognize at least two.

Why are conservative Christians so greedy that you have to hog the whole stage? Didn’t people who came to seek religious freedom found America? Don’t Jews, Muslims, Hindus, pagans, agnostics, atheists, etc. etc. have the same rights that you do?

Mixing God and government is profoundly bad policy for the simple reason that in a free society it’s impossible to cater to everyone – so why spend public money and effort when presumably each religion is capable of teaching and celebrating its own beliefs? That’s not the job of a government.

It seems to me that Christian conservatives have no confidence in their own churches to teach their doctrine because they constantly demand that the government and public schools do it for them.

If you can’t see that putting the Ten Commandments in a public building is tantamount to state ESTABLISHED religion then I have little hope for you. You neocons had a great time howling about the outrages of the Taliban in Afghanistan, but if you had it your way, you’d have the religious police patrolling the streets of the good old USA.

Did you even read my last paragraph at all? I clearly stated that I have no problem with other religions. I have also never called Obama a Muslim and wouldn't care if he were. Jihadist Muslims, I do have a problem with because they want non-Muslims to convert as much as Atheist want no religous reference in public places because they "Find them offencive".

As I said before and so obviously MISSED!
