Filling up my car today I see we’re creeping ever closer to the $4 a gallon mark.

Can you bleeping believe it?

When did we first realize in this country that we were too dependent on foreign oil? Let me see… how about during the flipping Carter administration!

Sure, we had a little spasm of gas shortage panic back then – bought a few compact cars for a while (remember the Pinto?) – but then it was back to the good old gas guzzlers.

So our leaders – Democrat and Republican alike – have basically had 30 years to come up with a reasonable alternative energy source.

Have they done it? No

Meanwhile, the economy is in the toilet and runaway gas prices are spurring inflation levels we haven’t seen in decades.

Way to go guys! Mission accomplished!

Did you see the story about the new "I believe" license plate making its way through the Legislature?

Don't even get me started on the Constitutional arguments around a government-produced license plate that promotes Christianity. I assume the Bush packed Supreme Court won't raise an eyebrow.

What really irritates me is the fact that the Legislature is working on this - and hammering out a compromise on a new state song - instead of working on things like property tax reform and the insurance crisis.
