Every day is different up in SkyFox. Each day is very unique. Yes, except for the holidays, there is ALWAYS traffic to show from 1000’. Some days we have some major breaking stories like fires or police pursuits. Others are filled with spectacular views of the ocean and mountains. And of course, we always mix in some fun. That’s why I dig my job so much…What I do up there constantly changes.

I grabbed some photos with my camera last Thursday (2/28) to illustrate this. We made a fly by out over Riverside over the tragic plane crash. We captured the snow capped San Gabriel Mountains as we headed back west. We always make a pass through Downtown L.A. and yes…we mix in a crowded freeway or two.

We are a team of *3* up in SkyFox. I’m just the talking head. The two most important guys are Kevin Walton, our senior pilot and Vince Mac, our award-winning photo journalist. Kevin is an amazing pilot and Vince works magic with our high definition Cineflex camera. I’ve included photos of them all. So, a little “behind the scenes” action for you guys. Let me know what you like and don’t like from what we do up in SkyFox. We are here to serve you!

..love the pics! you guys seem to do, or keep track of, so many things at once, i don't get it! how do you find out the latest-breaking news from the sky and then prioritize in order of importance, then..get to 'the scene'..do you produce that yourselves or are people on the ground communicating what they want you to do? the shot today of the inland lake..ha lol, amazing! looked just like the ocean. you make news fun. i bet you guys laugh alot up there..

Rick,

In your line of work you are able to see some amazing sights, your very fortunate, you have a great job, I know you appreciate and love it....it shows. I thank you for sharing some of the beauty with us, the sunrise, the ocean, etc., because of you we also get to enjoy it...thanks for that!

I was wondering though, I know that you also see a lot of horrible things as well...a lot that they can't show on air. Just the part they show us the viewers is tough enough to see, I feel for you, it must be hard at times to see what you see....how do you handle that?

hey Rick,

Wow - it's been quite some time since I have logged onto MyFoxLA.com. A lot of changes and MANY blogs to read. Rick - your blogs are always a lot of fun because you put so much into them. Whether it's interesting topics, fun information, ways to help important causes, or even pictures from your time in the sky - it's always something to look forward to.

The pictures are AWESOME!! The one of you getting on SkyFox made me laugh - you're such a rockstar!! The one of the plane crash was so sad but amazing nonetheless. The traffic shot reminded me of my past times of driving at Park La Brea every morning. The inside shot of the chopper was really incredible - Seeing all the controls amazed me. The US Bank tower is always pretty incredible to see. And the last one of the mountains had to be my favorite - It made me want to go hiking!!

I also tuned in for the first time to your live feed online. That was a treat!! I had a blast seeing and hearing all the behind the scenes action. :) And cracked up a few times with things said and done. I recommend EVERYONE checking it out at least once. :)

Well - I hope you have a good weekend. Enjoy the high temps!!

Erin

There was a time that it seaems like they were happing more offen than we would have like for then to happen.

I need to know if there is any history of police chases back between december 1992 and april 1993.Only in LA county area. Then at what time did these chases started to become more popular and when did the media start covering these chases? I will truely grateful if you can get this imformation for me.
