My favorite season...YES..it is here..finally..Summer officially arrives in the northern hemisphere at 4:59 pm PDT Friday, June 20th. The noontime sun will be directly overhead at the tropic of cancer, 23 1/2 degrees north latitude. In the northern hemisphere, it will be one of the longest days (most daylight hours) of the year. Here in L.A., the sun will be above the horizon for almost 14 1/2 hours. The weather is sure appropriate for the start of the warm season. On Thursday, Woodland Hills reached a record 109 degrees. Chatsworth was 110. Friday and Saturday will likely be just as hot, if not hotter. How about the REST of the summer? The Climate Prediction Center just updated their forecast for the next three months (summer). Below is a map which shows the temperature forecast.

A big area of the Southwest is expected to have ABOVE average high temperatures. However, the CPC is forecasting BELOW average temperatures along the immediate coast of southern California. We'll have to wait at see..but it certainly is off to a RECORD HOT start...Stay cool everyone and HAPPY SUMMER!! Rick

Yeah, summer is finally here to enjoy. We had snow Memorial weekend in the Lake Arrowhead area and we got sunburn in our winter coats.

I am back in the pool working on my tan taking my water aerobics class. My kid is tall enough for the Lake Gregory water slide, so we are loving the heat.

The lakes are full from the heavy rains, which is good for our property values.

YUCK, I dont like the heat I dont like the summer except for the longer nights. If I have the time to spend my summer days floating on a raft in my pool to attempt to stay cool then great, but trying to carryon a normal life during summer is impossible. The brain fries, tempers flare, people have less patience with each other on the road, its a chore to get dressed with your clothes sticking to you. You take a shower but by the time you dry off you are already sweating so do you really feel fresh. Not I think not.
Then those of us with families that have to be in the kitchen cooking or doing laundry this only adds to the heat of the room. So if I have nothing to do but put on my swim suit and go float in my pool then fine summer is great.

Time to buy those fans or portable room coolers! And it's time for me to head to the Seal Beach Pier whenever possible (nice wooden pier and Rubys!). And the surfers are polite enough to share the beach...unlike Malibooooooh!!

Well, beepbeep, you'd like Seal Beach!

And Rick...Redondo is cool too, right?

I love all the beaches I have been to, however. I love Leo Carillo to visit the tide pools during negative low tide, those are mostly during the winter months, but its fun to go check out some of the sea creatures. I camp right ut the street at Sycamore Canyon across from Sycamore Cove (Point Magu). We have been going there since our kids were small and now we still love to go camping there as often as we can.
I think any beach would be nice as long as people respect each others space and are considerate. Usually when you get out in nature you will find that people really mellow out and care for one another. Have a great summer everyone and drive carefully,...surf's up.

Rick,
Isn't it hard for you to go to sleep in the summertime though? Since you do go to bed around 7pm right? I love summer except the heat. I live in Ontario so it is brutal. Do you guys ever fly by the Inland Empire?
