A New Addition to my Family

Yep..we added another Dickert to the clan recently...Her name is Iris...She's awesome..a pure breed yellow lab. BUT..wow..just like a new born baby she’s A LOT of work right now..We got her when she was 8 weeks old from a breeder up in the Victorville area. We spent the previous few months researching labs before finally committing. I can't wait until she is a few months older and I can start to run with her and take her down to the water. I want to be able to get her out in the surf eventually. They hold a dog-only surf contest down in San Diego every June. A lab won the event this year! Perhaps Iris will hold up the trophy in another few years. She's already brought a lot of joy to our family. She's treated like royalty, like all dogs should be. I've read up on labs and general dog behavoir..but still need some help..Please pass on any advice that you might have! We are keeping her away from other dogs and public areas until she gets all of her shots.

YES..I know the adorable little pup that Iris is now will grow into a 60 pound BIG dog!

....and the puppy aint bad either! :-)

Really cute puppy, Iris is a great name for her, Labs are the best! My Sasha (the doggie I use as my avatar) was a 3/4 Lab and 1/4 Pit. She was my best friend... she passed away because of cancer 2 years ago... my family has so many great memories given to us from her. My best wishes to you and your family... especially your new fuzzy baby! enjoy!

Just remember to pick up the poop on your walks or else you will get the "stink eye" from your neighbors. FYI... just in case you have not heard about Zac Sunderland, the 16 year old who is attempting to break the worlds record for being the youngest to solo circumnavigate his boat around the world, has been blogging everyday on his experience out at sea. Google his name and click on his blog. It is really interesting to read and the community supporting him is amazing. Check it out, you will not be disappointed.

The new puppy will love the circled donut with sprinkled non-chocolate mojacks. Just think Rick how donuts will help him grow and you my man, well a twist a day keeps the ladies at hay! I say go for that Mama's glazed twist, gobble it down but of course never try and choke it down as shows-offs never win!

mystere-NO..NO donuts for Iris..but I hear labs eat EVERYTHING!! Can't wait to take her to the shoreline..She still needs a few shots..

Donut boy, donut boy, whose da man...Rick Dickert and a box of those from near Van Nuys airport! Actually I like the powdered lemon filled one the best. Doesn't leave my fingers to sticky. The dog should never ever have any chocolate as it puts canines in a perm coma, and dark chocolate is even more fatal too. But a plain donut hole or the powdered one is fine as long as it does not become a daily habit. Dogs can get fat just like people do.

Hey Rick, cool dog... Its funny a buddy of mine here just got a black lab around the same time you got her... You'll have a blast getting her on a board at some point I bet!

Carpet Cleaning is the business I'm in, give me a work address and I'll send you some sample spotters you can use on any carpet mishaps she might have....

By the way, you guys did a great job the other day on the home burglary suspects.... great coverage, they picked up on that story here in Columbus Ohio....

I think I've told you before, My Dad flew for the Columbus PD for about 18years... Every summer we'd go to ALEA (Airborn Law Enforcement Assoc.) meetings, always got to see the latest Helicopters and gadgets....

But I'm always amazed, when there is a helicopter above the crooks... they still run... Always nice having the Eyes in The Sky

Been busy, but always try to catch some air time with you guys in the mornings

That chase was exciting. They ended up catching the one guy who went into the house based on our video! Good stuff..

.rick! with all the pups coming on for adopt a pet and you went to a breeder! shame on you ;) but beautiful baby nonetheless!

.keep LOTS of chew toys around for her. My babies love greenies and "knee caps" and pig ears. They keep them busy for hours. They should come in handy around the 4 month mark when her little teeth start falling out and and she starts chewing on furniture and anything else to massage those gums!

.also kennel training is the best way to potty train with a time schedule. good luck and have fun!!

I know..I know..it was my wife who was all over it..I SOOOO wanted to rescue a dog..
But I think of it like this..we rescued her from the breeder! She's amazing..yes..a chewer..

I think it is perfect timing for you and your wife to adopt Iris. Don't you have a daughter going off to college? This new baby will keep the excitement at home, while your older babies go off to school.

She is very cute and looks like you! Our family believes in buying pure breeds and we are on a kitty waiting list!! Congrats!!!

Rick, She is so cute. We just adopted a terrier mix puppy a couple months ago. They are a hand full. Give her lots of hugs and a spray bottle with water works wonders to stop bad habits!!!!!
