This could turn out to be a great day for baseball.
George Mitchell's report on performance enhancing drugs told us something we already knew. For years baseball players have been playing with poison to gain a competitive edge. They made a transition from steroids to growth hormones without a hitch. HGH is a legitimate drug by the way most often prescribed by Doctors to children with stunted growth.
Drug testing in baseball only barely became comprehensive in 2003. And they still don't test for HGH. And if you listen to the executive director of the Major League Baseball Players union they won't anytime soon. Donald Fehr says the current drug testing policy works.. Well it works better in detecting steroids. But you need a blood test for HGH and that's not part of baseballs policy....yet.
Let it be Donald! Your union members may have been killing themselves that past several years trying to make big money and break elusive records.
And the reason we should care about our sports stars turning into freaks for our entertainment is because of those grieving parents who marched on Capitol Hill. They are the ones who turned your boys in. They are the ones whose kids wanted to copy their idols and put stuff into their body that eventually killed them. That's what got politicians involved. And by the way, taking HGH and steroids without a legitimate doctors advice is against federal law. Don't like it?! Change the law!
You guys have had a good run. Lots of attention, lots of money, lots of records. I have a feeling we'll find out the price you paid in the next several years when the effects of taking that stuff really hits you!
The records won't likely change as a result of the Mitchell report. The players won't likely be punished for their past drug use. But we can move forward.
To a day when the honest players finally get to step on to a level playing field.
When baseball can be more than just a freak show!

Sorry Rick, but I rarely ever catch a ballgame, my dig is Modifieds Racing or in essence routing for our local hero Jimmy Johnson and Nascar.

no ones gonna like this but steroids may have saved baseball...after the strike and no world series we were all fed up with baseball it was at an all time low it need excitement to bring it and the fans back ..until cal ripken broke lou gherigs record there was nothing ..then came the home run race between sammy sosa and mark mcguire...then it was barry bonds breaking that..roger clemens was roger clemens again this time for the hated yankees...the fans showed interest again they came back baseball was exciting the yankees buit an evil empire and the red sox ended the curse of the bambino barry bonds took over as the greatest home run hitter ever ..and even if you hated him the fans would fill the stands to see him..it was a dark day for baseball for other reasons too..its for the best but the game will never be the same..as the steroid years..

rick, i am bored by sports but i have a sense of fairness. dunking in basketball is not fair for the shorter athelete. football players of great mass (pick a weight...for discussion let's choose 250lbs) are not atheletes as much as they are boulders. like wrestling, i want weight limits for NFL players.

Marv, do you want individual weight limits or can it be collective? Say 3,000 pounds per team?

Fire each steroid user , ban them from baseball forever and start anew . These players get paid alot of money and they have let the public down . I am sure there are many young( want to be professional baseball players ) that would play for free if given the chance . Lets get back to basics !

moogie! yeah weight limits per unit 250 lbs. 11 units cumulative say 2,420 lbs (avg 220 lbs per unit)! would the Redskins' starting eleven offense be within the limits?
