Aztec Calendar Handbook; News ReleaseThe ancient wisdom ascribed is found behind the creation of a 500-year-old artifact, the Aztec Calendar. To the Natives it was Teoilhuicatl Apaluaztli Ollin Tonal Machiotl meaning the Great and Venerable Mechanism of the Universe. In contrast, the modern technology was used to create a Technical Manual for the Aztec Calendar that delineates the elements of this ancient monument with engineering documentation techniques. [Note: The Aztec name was given to the Mechican Indians (ch as in chevron; sometimes spelled Mexican) by an English writer in the 19th century.]

The Aztec Calendar Handbook, involving thousands of man-hours of effort to create, takes the Technical Manual approach to a Historical Reference book. Illustrated with over 150 technical drawings showing enlargement details, cut-away views, and computer-generated art, this new guidebook has been called the "ultimate" Aztec Calendar reference treatise. Distilled from over 240 sources and quoting direct eyewitnesses from the 1500’s, it further includes a glossary of over 230 native words. This attractive book is made with parchment paper and has a leather-grained cover, making it resemble an ancient manuscript.

Sample Pages from BookThe research for writing the Aztec Calendar Handbook was assisted by custom software to convert Native date designators into our modern calendar dating system. In this way, a researcher is able to convert and track the dates of events from surviving native history books, known as codices. Mountains of information could be processed more efficiently and accurately when correlating indigenous dates. Inversely, a Julian date can also be converted into the Mayan long-count system. It is then possible for the Mechican calendar-labeling scheme to be transposed over the count to generate a person’s Aztec tonallo or spiritual name from their birth date.

According to Native tradition, our current long-count cycle will be complete in December 2012. A long-count cycle, credited to the Olmec/Maya, is 5125 years and started in the year 3114BC. No one is really sure what will happen when the cycle ends, or at least they aren’t talking.

MY FRIEND WAS TALKING ABOUT THIS AND I AM STILL TRYING TO UNDERSTAND WHAT HE IS TALKING ABOUT AND THIS CALENDER AND WHY 2012 I MEAN YEAH THEY SAY THE AZTEC WERE SMART WHICH IN THERE TIME THEY WERE BUT HOW COULD THEY PERDICT THIS YEAR AND WHY DOES IT STOP ON 2012.

WELL PEOPLE IF YOU CAN HELP ME UNDERSTAND AND PUT SOME LIGHT ON THIS SUBJECT. THANK YOU

You know how the Year we go by is off by a bit so every 4 years we have a leap year and add another day?

That kind of in-accuracy was not acceptable to the Aztecs, who had an uncanny knowledge of the movements of this planet and the stars obversable by the naked eye.

So basically, they measured seasons, and years in 4 year incriments, and predicted moon phases hundreds of years in advance, and a full cycle was estimated at the time to be a very very long time by our reckoning.

The 2012 thing really isn't much to be excited about, just think about it like Chinese New Year or Hebrew New Year...it's just a different calender system is all.

so why do the aztec say when the fire dragon circles and his tail is in his mouth it will be the end of this era (end of world) and new one shall begin like it has been doing. i also dont get that they say the northern hemisphere will be covered in ice and we will all die while the southern will make a new life. so like i was thinking 2012 is just a year right?

I saw this on The History channel not long ago. I don't know, it seems to make sense. I do believe in the Bible and life as we know it, will come to an end sooner or later...so who knows? I will get my family ready, and let's wait and see what happens.
Maybe I’ll do all the things I’ve always wanted to do, just in case :-)

that is interesting and i am glad i dont because i know in the bible god said that we will not know the day nor the hour no one knows but god. i think that would be torture if we knew. when my friend was talking about this he was on tears with this becuase he has this whole aztec thing stuck in his head and he went on for hours about the world endind dec 21 2012 and how a big red planet was going to come up from under the earth and kill us all and this would be known as the fifth sun which also the aztec calender said would happen, what i want to know is why did they stop on the year 2012 because according to them the earth died came back to life a bunch of times and the calender was still there so why did they come up with the world time stopping at 2012?

my friend studies every possibility with science and the bible computers and how this world is hiding alot of stuff like "aliens". this guy said that he does not belive in religion but believes in god and he also trying to figure out why he was put on this planet and what is his purpose he waits for the world to end so he could know what he was put on earht for.

"big red planet was going to come up from under the earth"

In the book of Revelations, it does mention a star falling from the sky and destroying earth. So either way, comet, planet, star....whatever...point is, that's not all entirely false. Earth will be destroyed. But you're right, we've no idea as to, when.

We never really know how we would handle things until it happens. Their prediction could be like the big scare of when 1999 was going into 2000. Everyone, well nearly, was freaking, One of my Uncles actually sold his house and moved..somewhere. (he was always a bit unstable).
We should live each day like their may be no tomorrow, because we never know. That is why you always let your loved ones know they are loved. Always try to be kind to stangers. Enjoy each moment you have with your family, your children, let them know they are special.

I would like to ask,what if we did know when the end of the world would be,what could you or I do are we ready?do we love our neighbor as our self? do we really love all mankind?we are maid in the likeness of the heavenly father,do we forgive? Id like also to know IF we knew we would be dead tonight what would we really do today? NOT KNOWING IS THE MERCY OF HIM.JUST THINKING about it,we all know what is in our hearts,dont we?

The Chinese say that everyone during a certain year will have the same traits and if you read some old texts on it you would think it's SERIOUS BUSINESS so why are you taking the same kind of superstition from another ancient culture to heart? Especially when the ruling class most likely just used such predictions as an instrument of fear the same way ruling classes in Europe created "7 deadly sins" which were never mentioned in the bible.

7 deadly sins are NOT mentioned in the bible?? I have never gotten very far. Ive tried to read it several times but It is (there goes the word I just had it) got it open for Interpretation. I have to understand what I am reading and I spend most of my time reading and re reading and reading again. I have been told to just read it, then when I read it again it will make sense. If I do that its just a bunch of words on a page. That I think is part of the problem what one person interprets another gets an entirely different meaning.

Well the "7 deadly sins" are sins, but iirc all sins are bad, not just a few, and the only sin which cannot be forgiven is denying the existance of God Almighty.

I've been told that if I pray for guidance and understanding, I will comprehend what is written. Well, I must not be praying hard enough, cause there's plenty I still don't get!
