With wages increases at an all time low while productivity at an all time high, do you think that the federal government is ignoring the plight of the working man? As corporate executives’ wages and bonuses are increasing at a record high for certain industries do you think that the federal government needs to hold these companies accountable?

The theory behind corporate tax breaks are that companies take the money they receive from tax breaks and reinvest those savings into their employees as well as providing new jobs for their communities. This is not the case for most companies, in fact it’s the exact opposite. Most companies are laying off or cutting employee wages while providing bonuses (most of the time due to increases in productivity) for their executives. They are also shipping jobs overseas or outsourcing for positions. With many corporations moving their factories overseas, investing less in research and development and as a result letting our national infrastructure lag, the United States has the highest rate of poverty on any industrialized nation, and the highest level of inequality of wealth as well.

Comparing us to the rest of the industrial world, we have a declining education system, a lower life expectancy and a higher infant mortality. All of these are just the tip of the iceberg when we are also looking at a sagging economy. Experts have a few ideas as to what is causing this, low wages and a lack of health care.

The federal government has kept minimum wage down to an amount that is lower than the average wage 40 years ago at $5.85 per hour.  That means that we have lagged behind the cost of living increases by over $4.00 per hour. Also the amount of money put into taxes has lagged behind as well and failed to keep up with the cost of living increases as well.  Many experts state that to improve our economy we need an increase in minimum wage and we need to provide national health care plans to those working for small business unable to provide health care for their employees.

Do you think that federal guidelines need to be declared to protect employees and hold corporations accountable for their tax breaks.

ABSOLUTELY!
Corporations are getting tax breaks when they go abroad.
We have lost so much of the industry that made our country first in the world.
With no jobs, the government is losing its own source of tax income. The unemployed do not pay taxes.
This trickle down theory of giving corporation tax breaks has no validity, unless you are thinking of the employees of American corporations abroad.
The auto industry gets $4 billion in corporate welfare.
I keep hearing that people can not buy hybrids. They nix their own profits, then want to be bailed out!

I dont think you'll find a working man or woman who wants to keep the tax breaks going for corporations.

thing is, it wont be stopped as they all have lots of $$$ and use lobbyists to "persuade" our "elected" officials that they are needed.

now we all know what politicians do if they get scared about not getting re-elected to the gravy train dont we......

Yes and we to stop bailing them out...you wanna outsource and leave Americans jobless....then reap what you sow. See if we arent working ...we certainly are not spending...and MOST americans do love to spend!
Also with the cost of living rising at such an alarming rate, and no raise in income, via min. wage , and Social security (for those that truly cannot work) Whats a person to do? Who's bailing those folks out??? oh and BTW Im STILL waiting on this so called stimulus chk........

Why are Americans still buying foreign anything?
We the People can stop this insanity by taking a stand.
As my glad rags become more ragged, I may have to change my mind about buying clothing entirely, shoes, small appliances, large appliances, and on and on and on.
I need a list of brands that are American.
I was buying Hersey's over Nestles just to stay American and because Nestles is responisble for so many babies' death by pushing formula in 3rd world countries.
Now Herseys has gone abroad.
Is Russell Stover American?
Giradelli is.
Dove?
Where can I get fish caught by Americans?
Who grows Bird's Eye frozen vegetables?
It still breaks my heart every time I hear Ford advetize that they are now as good as Toyota.
We did this as much as Corporations.
Save $.20 a box on Strawberries picked by Mexicans, then pay $335 billion a year for illegal invaders.

I used to think trickle down economics was the way to go. Problem is it just does not work any more. Unions got greedy. Corps in turn lost thier sense of responsibilty to employees & community. Its all about maximum returns to the shareholders. Pegasus is right. Whatever happened to Wal-Marts "Made in America" marketing ploy? Now I don't know if you could find anyhting in Wal-Mart thats made in our country. We do lead the world in manufacturing one thing though, debt.

The government needs to bring our jobs back home. More manufacturing industries need to be rebuilt and focus on production in our home land needs priority. The government needs to stop paying farmers to not grow the food needed for our hungry people. Tax breaks are needed for the small business owners from there they can grow and apply more benefits to their employees or even hire more. I know I look for products made in the United States and I am willing to pay the extra dollar or two. It has to start from somewhere.

This can be summarized by just saying the republicans are the enemy, vote for Obama '08.

I have been an actor, writer, and journalist, among other things. Currently I am getting ready to go back to school. I think that news, as clichè as it sounds, is one day away from being history. I enjoy reading, writing, running, biking and swimming. Ironically I hate the Triathlon. Yet I believe exercise is the key to a happy life! Politically I'm a Moderate Democrat and I listen to anyone's views, the only thing that really irks me is people who insult others for having different views. Which often makes me insult them in turn. I guess that makes me a Hypocrite... At least I won't be lonely.
