A sixteen year old is dead after police told a gang member that she fingered him as a murderer.... It was a lie.

They had told this lie to get the gang member to confess. Without enough evidence to hold him at the time, where he immediately went to the girls house and shot her in the face at such close range that the burn and soot marks were left on her face. He shot her below her eye.

The story here is a really good read

What is it with the LA Police Department?

Wow, this is the first I have heard of this. This is terrible. They should be held accountable.

Yeah, I feel so sorry for the gang banger shooting the wrong snitch. LAPD owe's him an apology at least.

Any public official shouldn't lie, but the level of reaction towards the lie other than the most usual behavior of gangs is what I'm appalled about.

My gut says the LAPD were wrong, but then, as the article points out, PD's all over the country use this tactic.
I agree with the tactic, but disagree with exposing innocent people.
Accountability is needed here. Then maybe the rest of her family can get out of the gang infested neighborhood.

Why couldn't the LAPD lie that it was another person whom they wanted off the streets that fingered him instead of some innocent girl? Some people just dont think ahead.

Then someone else would have died.. just cause a cop wants you off the streets doesnt mean you deserve to die.

Even though this girl wasn't the person that told I am afraid that this will make people who have information on crimes not want to come forward in fear of being exposed.

People are already afraid. Police talk to people with gunshot wounds in the hospital all the time that refuse to give them any information.. now true.. some of them are waiting to get out and handle it themselves.

Someone could get shot in the middle of the street in the middle of the day.. and nobody saw nothing... happens EVERY day.

Dang, there's another family that won't be saying the pledge because of that liberty and justice for all phrase.

Probably won't be standing for the song at the beginning of ballgames either.

I wonder if the cop cars still have that "to protect and to serve" phrase on the door?

Anyone catch the inmate in Dallas freed today because he wrongly convicted since 1992?

All related.

What do you mean.. all related?

Ok, it has to do with documented police abuses against the people for which there were no real remedies, in spite of the "rights" of due process, effective legal representation, innocent until proven guilty, all that stuff you have to have a lot of money to procure.

Prosecutor Wade in Dallas,(deceased) with the help of police, railroaded many innocent citizens, mostly poor black, into long prison terms, in order to "solve" the crime of the day, and record a conviction.

Many are being released over DNA evidence. The man released yesterday was convicted in 1992 in spite of producing an alibi of being elsewhere.
The police helped produce the people in the line-up in which he was "identified."

When he was released yesterday, in the crowd were 3 other wrongly convicted men whose total time spent in prison was over 100 years. One had spend nearly 27 years wrongly convicted. Up for review are executed prisoners.

Liberty and Justice for all is the ending phrase of the Pledge of Allegiance, Home of the Free and the Chiefs, I mean brave, is the end part of the song they play at Arrowhead before the games. If I went into prison at 19 and came out 27 years later, I would take exception to the the mindless repeating of these phrases.

The police have many documented abuses. The best one are the convicted cops in the NY area convicted of carrying out hits, (murders) for the mob.

The prosecutors would have a real difficult time propagating the abuses of power without the partnership of the police.

Corruption, chickens--ts, that is why the gangs rule the streets and police give up on trying, but still check in for a paycheck. They still post to "protect and serve", who are they protecting and serving, the criminals.
The gangs are a by product of drug cartel so LAPD's "boss" is who, then why are they picking up a check at the station and by the way give the department back that car and gun. hum...... is that where Mexico's most wanted man might be hiding out?

I agree and there was a a great "mystery" surrounding that case, who is working for who?

Now there's one even better than that. A police officer was murdered last wk or 10 days ago, out East I believe, and held in solitary.

In spite of this, the police officer's murderer was murdered in prison, while in solitary. Which means the guard let someone in his "solitary" cell.

The investigation goes beyond just the guard. Obviously higher level management was involved. It continues.

The state was looking forward to spend the money on the trial. And the defense lawyer WAS looking to get paid!

We are moving very quickly into a complete police state, stories like this are going to increase while at the same time we will hear about them less and less. The judicial branch of government at all levels are either towing the line or being replaced with ones that will. The current state of the union is, were all screwed.
