i was upset when a TV reporter spoke of how an assignment person dictates where the reporter is wanted to go.  my perception is that many TV news stories don't improve by having a reporter and camera go to a location.  the story can simply be told by a news reader.  i notice when a reporter gives me a meaningful, interesting, fact filled segment live from a hot spot.  seeing a reporter at the scene of a cold story is absurd unless there is ongoing fact gathering.  my hope would be that only reporters capable of making fascinating packages are on the staff.  i question how much talent is at the top of the news organization-- the news director, the program producer. the essence being stupidity anywhere does not help the organization.  the one word missing from  hurt feelings is the disrespect if the reporter is not trusted. it must be frustrating when a reporter sees  the lousy work of his colleagues given prime air.
