The Spinward Marches

Hey, it's been a while!

There are few absolute certainties, guaranteed slam dunks in this world, right? But here's one, on live TV three hours day, I'm going to get things wrong, make some big mistakes. Bet on it!

I don't mean when my mind has entirely left the room, and at the end of the show on a Tuesday, I wish everybody a good weekend; or when my brain is now on another planet and I look at Jill and Dorothy and get them confused ( I think that's the medication kicking in) or the time I referred to the historical and tragic landmark in Dallas as the Texas School.... Suppository...no those are just what Dot would call brain farts...uh.. toots in her house.

I also don't mean all the comments and opinions that fly around all the time on GDLA, sometimes based a a real grasp of the subject at hand, often based on a feeling, a whim, that quickly passes and is immediately forgotten. Or when a guest is looking at Jill and giving an answer and Jill wonders why the guest is looking at her, totally forgetting she just asked her the question 40 second earlier...Nah, not that stuff

When I make the real factual error, there are always some viewers who catch it and send me corrections and I really appreciate that...really....most of the time.

for instance...in talking about EPO the performance enhancing drug, I referred to it as a steroid, but it is a synthetic hormone. Not a big deal? well it's inaccurate and it is a big deal and several of you caught it and I'm the wiser for it and won't do it again.
In fact, even though I sometimes(more than that) come off as Know- It- All ( which Jill and Dot don't hesitate to point out) , what I really feel is how little I know; that each day is a learning experience for me and I hope..you. Getting the facts and context right are things I take very seriously on the show, the rest of the stuff is party time. ,

Okay, I'm a little pompous at times.

But I was thinking....maybe, the blog is a good place for you to catch errors I've made and could work as a corrective. Maybe that's like saying here's a a bat swing away.
What do you think?

Huh?

Steve, you are cool with me. Dont we all make mistakes? The more we think we know everything is when we realize that we dont know anything. You dont necessarilly come off as a know it all. You just state the facts to the best of your knowledge. Its a lot more than most of us know already. Ive noticed since I've been blogging that some people think they have a lot more to say than others. Keep it real. I love the show, you do a great job. Thanks

Hey Steve, I think you were missing the point during today's show when you asked if elected officials fooling around affects how they do their jobs. It's not about that; it's about rooting out hypocrisy. I generally do not care about politicians' private lives. However, if someone's MO is to pontificate about the moral failures of others while hiding their own dirty secrets, I'm all for bringing out the truth about them. I'm tired of politicians catering to self-righteous constituents who want to obliterate the separation of church and state in order to impose their own values on others. Maybe those constituents will eventually stop looking the other way when hypocrites like Newt Gingrich say they've repented and focus on greater problems like the irreparable damage our current administration has done to this country.

Hi Steve,
We all make mistakes and one can’t be expected to be 100% perfect all the time. I personally look forward to your wisdom and opinions. I wouldn't worry much about it.

This isn't the topic but what do you think about the five students who were denied their diplomas due to the misconduct of the audience?

Hi Steve, Just wanted first to say, I used to hate waking up everymorning to you guys. My wonderful husband was probably your only fan ,when GDLA premiered. Its probably because you guys were my alarm clock. I knew when I heard Jillian , it was time to get up and go to work! But of course I love your show and love the fact you guys act like family instead of coworkers. Also I agree with you about marriage and depression . I lost my husband last year and believe you me drepression is the first one knocking trying to get in.

Hi....I've probably has about 12 moments since i posted.

Sebar...is the MP most prolific? As Kewl as Wyler?
Speed...How bout them!
Dlove....I just don't remember!

Garciamon....xxxoxox

Dre....nascar was halted by rain and we are obligated to show the rest of the race.
And..
Asbe...I agree with you about rooting out hypocrisy, but our political landscape almost demands it.
Hypothetical: a candidate is a scoundral in his private life but would be very effective in office. He(maybe a she) is going to fake it, present a phony and often hypocritical face to the public in order to stand a chance of winning; something that was easier if tne pre-internet, gotcha, world we have now.
Was Kennedy a good president? Did his screwing around matter if you think he was?
Thomas Jefferson had a pretty good run and history indicates that his view of religion and sexual relations would probably have him acta little hypocritical if he were runing now.
Jimmy Carter may have been the most moral(depending on your view of morality) president in recent history and few view his term as successful.

Being conventially moral and possessing the qualities to run a country may often overlap but are not neccesarily compatible; but most candidates act as if they are running for pastor because that's how you get votes.

You may not care about private lives, but a
lot of voters like to vote for good, family oriented, church going folk and so a lot of politicians give them that.

Maybe it's changing after Clinton and Guiliani.
Actually, there is nothing new here

A mistake on your show? Nah? Who'd notice? Thank God you are there otherwise the credibility factor would be in the negative, although I adore Dorothy and love it when she shows her political smarts (reported in DC, no?)...but really, now that I have you I must write that having Paris Hilton be the only story for the AM is ridiculous...you guys are smarter than that....cheers!

Yes, Steve, good idea. I called once 'cause you said the legal limit to drive under the influence of alcohol is .08. NO. There is NO legal limit. .08 is simply a matter of burden of proof. People have been given DUIs for having blood alcohol content of less than .08. Dig it? (And "toots" is the funniest thing in the world!) Love ya!

Steve has been the host of GoodDay LA for 12 years and counting. While it seems that he's been on LA tv for 60 years, it's really been since 1978. Steve's been the host of too many shows to mention but a few are: Am Los Angeles, Two on the Town, Live in La,: he has a closetfull of emmys, a star on Hollywood Blvd and looks forward (most mornings) to his time with Jillian and Dorothy, and yes, he reads most of the stuff you write!
