That's what my sons say to me when we drive together and I've got control of the radio. In some kind of odd role reversal, neither of my children likes much modern music.
They're fans of Green Day, but Jay Z, Kanye, Black Eyed Peas, Beck, White Stripes, all on my Ipod and all vetoed by my young progeny. To be fair, they're not that fond of some of the other stuff I have too, Chet Baker, Ella Fitz, Diana Krall, Kenny Rankin.
So what do they listen to? The older son, rebel to the core, left his Beatles-only days in elementary school and now listens to everything from Dead Kennedys to Vampire Weekend. BTW Vampire Weekend is on the short list of his listen able au courant bands, the other one is Ben Folds.
The younger son is highly influenced by "Guitar Hero."   Walking through a store, he recognized in 3 notes, the Rolling Stones, "Paint it  Black." He'll let me listen to Rage's "Bulls on Parade" but is less generous if it's The Raconteurs .
Then there's the movie effect. Linkin Park was a no no until he became a Transformers fan, suddenly LP's not so bad as long as the song playing is "What I've done."
I understand some music is an acquired taste. They're not big on opera, hip hop or country.  But even something as agreeable as Spoon's Ga Ga Ga Ga Ga is met with a yawn.
To each his own..  ultimately, my role as a parent is to influence them to be good human beings, not good music consumers.  But, kids, a little open mindedness, in all areas,  can take you a long way in life.

seems like your older son is into the more hardcore metal stuff. but since your not allowing him to pick up some albums, he's still listening to some of the weaker stuff. as for your younger son, he'll be more into alt. and classic rock. which you wont mind as much because it's a bit more mainstream.

but def. put on some 69 eyes, cradle of filth, the misfits, and danzig for the older son, and for your younger son, try some l.a. guns, def leppard, guns n roses, billy idol and the cult. let's see what they think of those bands.

as for the modern music, well can't blame them for not liking the white stripes, linkin park or kanye. they are all kinda burn out. lot's of the modern music isn't very good, and most of the good stuff isn't put in the public eye. but if you want something modern to try out, check out the bravery, kasabian, the distillers, and go betty go.

If I were the kids, I'd force you to drive me to the nearest subway sandwich fast food restaurant and buy you a hoagie. Then I would hand it to you and say "Susan, here's a tuna" in reference to the tuna hoagie of course! Enjoy the fish sandwich...???###@@@

Of course if you didn't like the tuna hoagie, I would ask if you could play my latest aquatic sounds CD in your car CD player and then ask if "Susan hears a tuna"...doh!

Just making you laugh today. Actually tuna has too much mercury in it, unless you are insured by 21st century insurance...

Esau, my sons don't have a favorite radio station. On long car trips, they want the music on their ipod, not mine.
Most short trips, like to and from school, we listen to NPR.

hi susan, i never think of listening to NPR although i often hear people speaking of it. my AM dial is set to KFI, KABC, KIEV, KFWB, and KNX. the FM dial has buttons for KCBS (Jack), KLOS, KLSX (talk), and KROQ. i think your TV presentations are great. i like seeing you inside the studio more than seeing you out in the field. maybe some day we can work together! i am confident your boys are smart and law abiding juveniles!

Hey Susan,
Funny you're blogging about this subject, Tricia and I were just having the same conversation. At least, your kid doesn't tell you "Turn it down Mom, you're too old to be listening to this kind of music!" Teens!!!!

hey susan, do the sons listen to NPR with you? occasionally i listen to Dennis Miller 870AM
ON AIR: 6 - 9PM
CALL IN: (866) 509-RANT

i also like Michael Medved 870AM
ON AIR: 12 - 3PM
CALL IN: 1-800-955-1776

On January 1st, 2001, the KIEV call letters were retired, and AM 870 was relaunched as News Talk 870 KRLA. The change identified transformation into a 24 hour, 7 days a week news, talk and information-format station with on-air talent deserving of the legendary KRLA call letters.

Sebar, i don't get it either and i doubt susan gets it. she is merely being nice. do us all a favor and explain. Tuna is to Tune? mercury and 21st century are insurance companies. where is the humor? susan, you are a fine TV anchor.

abe, what don't you get about sebar's post in this blog? i don't understand any aspect of what he was trying to communicate to susan. maybe sebar will understand that we do not get it, and we'd appreciate his translating it into clear english. love you susan.
