I doooo!  (If you haven't heard the song, just go over to youtube and you'll get the joke.)

So Sunday, I got a call from my brother -in-law John, who told me he just left his neighborhood 7-11 and it was completely transformed into a Kwik-E-Mart!  I knew it had to be my story because I had to check it out.

For one, I love the Simpsons.  My family used to gather together and watch the show.  My parents very pretty strict while I was growing up and wouldn't let us watch Three's Company, MTV or Married... With Children,  but for some reason the whole family would sit together to watch The Simpsons.  I think mainly because there's no "in your face" sexual innuendo.

I love Lisa with her intelligence and exasperation at her dim-witted relatives.  I love Bart's offensive remarks but otherwise sweet nature.  Same goes for Homer.  I love how Marge lovingly acts like the June Cleaver of the family - so accepting - but at times she gets frazzled and her frustration peeks through.

So many moments of the show remind me of my own family.  My mom would spend hours cooking dinner, but then me, my father and brother would sit down and eat, no one would talk, we'd just dig into the food like we were eating our last meal.  Just like on the show.

I still eat that way when I'm at work by the way.  That's what happens when you grow up with brothers and think whoever finishes first... wins!

So when I stepped into the real-life Kwik-E-Mart, I felt like I was at Disneyland.  I was giddy.  As I looked around, everyone looked the same way.  There were racks of Buzz Cola, Kwik-E-Mart coolers, Squishees, and even the little old man who was frozen in the cooler.  Remember that episode?

Also, we can't have the Kwik-E-Mart without adorable Apu.  I love how he he's raising eight kids with his beautiful Indian wife - another great episode - but at the Kwik-E-Mart he is strictly business.  How he is a straight shooter and then sends customers on their way with a friendly "Thank you, come again!"

Some of my favorite Apu quotes:

"Mr. Simpson, pay for your purchases and get out...        and come again!"

"Yes! I am a citizen! Now which way to the welfare office? I'm kidding, I'm kidding, I work, I work."

By the way, I talked to the guys who run the 7-11 in Burbank.  They are indeed Indian and  enjoying all the attention and business from the promotion.

it's pretty crazy that they did that, i wish they would do it to more 7-11 locations. i want to check one out.

as for the whole silent meal thing, that's exactly what it's like with my family. it's funny, just a long strange silences. but when we are out at a resturant, we are rowdy as hell.

Chilea.....that is capitalistic progress, always trying to change hopefully for the better. Of course there have been historical foulups like for instances, "COCA COLA" and the new coke. Pepsi loved that one, and making Cowboy boots called "Durango" Boots in communist China. Now that is really really Western wear, like too far to the West if you get that one. Of course one could look East and call it Eastern wear. I guess for some reason I just can't imagine a guy named "Li Ki" in wild west apparel.

Yeah Kwik-E-Marts as with anything must be dealt with in moderation otherwise as with anything, "too much of a good thing isn't great - 2007" :D another new Sebar quote...!

Booo... went to the burbank Kwik E Mart last night and on the way in to work this morning (it's about 1 mile from my house) and the shelves were empty both times. People were still getting Squishies and Donuts, but you can get those at every 7-11. I was in search of a cooler, some buzz cola and some Krustee O's. The sign said they got new shipments in daily, but the guys that worked there said they dedn't know when they were scheduled to arrive and they were empty both times I was there. Big Bummer.

I think it's a good idea that they've had here, but in doing it in only a handful of stores across the country, they've made a crazy atmosphere and put the stuff in such high demand, that it's going on e-bay for hundreds of dollars. I just wish they sold the products in all the 7-11's so it wasn't so hard to get. Anyone who has a job or a life doesn't have the time to camp out all day waiting for the next shipment to come in, just to get some buzz cola (since it'll be gone shortly after it gets delivered) Doh!

I too love the Kwik E Mart and happened to catch it on my way to the Culver City Farmers Market. Almost got into wreck my U-Turn was so random and crazy like. I waited in line for my Frosted Krusty O's which will probably end up on E-Bay in another ten years (Hee Hee).Just had to tell you that my favorite Apu line was Get Out, Get Out of my Ma and Pa operation. I wish they had T-shirts with that phrase. Absolutely Hilarious.

Peace Out....
