Good Morning Good Day,

I am psychotherapist specializing in foster/abused children and have worked with young girls and boys all over the Los Angeles that have been victims of sexual abuse. I think that we as a society do not focus on these issues until their is news like the two boys found in MO, or controversy from a film. I am also an actress, so understanding my craft and my career, I sit and think how, if, Dakota can handle a role as this one. First and foremorst, her parents had no issue with the film and allowed her to do it, Dakota has expressed comfort in doing the film and Dakota is a trained actor that has worked with Oscar winning actors before the age of 10. More so, the way the film was shot, Dakota was not in the same room as the actor playing the rapists...and they edited and stimulated the rape scene..so it wasnt like when children who are really raped and the victim is on top of them...two different scenerios same disturbing issue..just one will walk away with controversy or an award and the other will be scarred...

And I am glad the film is out and I am glad that if it takes controversy to discuss the issue that effects 300 children per day only in LA county then I respect Dakota for taking the role. And I would like those same ones that are protesting the film to also fight and protest for striker sex offender sentences and child advocacy rights.

Knowing that the scene was shot in different segments should give people a sence of relief. Also knowing that the male character in the film was not in the room when they were shooting the scene's with Dakota shows that the director took every percausion that was necessary to to insure the well being of Dakota. People also have to take into consideration that Dakota's Parents were aware of what this film consisted of and if they had any objections to the scene, they would of not allowed her to do it.

I am a 28 year old woman and for me it is hard enough to watch another woman being raped in a movie. I recently saw Derailed with Jennifer Anniston and it was very disturbing for me even after seeing how it ended. It just makes the violence feel so real.
I am not for or against the movie. I just personally will not go see the movie because I have a 7 year old little girl and seeing it probably would not leave my mind for a long time.
It is however comforting to know that the movie was tastefully done for Dakota's sake. She is like you all say an actress and know's what she is getting into .

Hi everyone!!! Ok this Dakota movie is a movie right?? and that girl is not getting rape. So... whats the poblem? I think if people have poblems with the movie they should shut up and dont watch the movie and thats it. People that complain is just people that dont have another better thing to do.

Thanks, raul

How can a bunch of people get worked up over a movie? Last night on criminal minds they had a little boy who looked like he was 10 go after a little girl who was supposed to be the same age with a baseball bat. Have we all forgot about Linda Blair who was 14 in the movie The Exorcist, she was stabbing herself in the crotch with a cross saying curse words!!! So, this movie isn't the ONLY thing out there that shows "inappropriate things" like this so I don't understand what the big deal is when this type of stuff happens on TV shows all the time!!! Things like evil people going after kids happens all the time in real life and I think kids should know about it. So they can be taught to be aware of there surroundings! Big whoop, stop having a spaz over stupid things people, if the movie bothers you then don't see it. If you want to keep your kids sheltered then don't allow them to see it.

I don’t understand what the big deal is about Dakota new movie. She herself said, “the movie isn’t about the rape, it’s about the story and how the girl was a survivor”. Is everyone against the movie because of her name or the “kids” movies that she makes, or would it make a difference if a no-named 12 yr old acted instead. If that’s the case then what about CSI? They talk and show how kids have been kidnapped, tortured, rape, and even murder. She is an actress no matter her aged and the type of movies she made. She had chosen to be in this movie to share the story. If not her, then it will be someone else and then there will be a buyer at the Sundance.

There is so much controversy about this rape scene. I don't remember hearing ANYTHING said about the 10-year old little girl who was raped in "A Time To Kill" and the actress was only 11 at the time, as someone said before. I just heard CNN Showbiz Tonight and a report from the Sundance Film Festival said that Dakota is clothed, the scene is only a few seconds but is violent. People shouldn't discuss things they have no knowledge of - i.e., none of you has seen this film.
Also, as others mentioned as well, the movie is edited. I'm sure that Dakota is shooting one scene, while they're shooting the rapist in another, in other words, "out of sequence", and they fill in the gaps to create the "rape scene". Physically, Dakota doesn't have someone on top of her mishandling her. So whoever is freaking out about this, "Relax. It's all fake."
