I feel I need to clear the air. My family was first to know, then my employers and colleagues and now I come to our loyal viewers of FOX-13. Some of you had already  guessed what is going on with my heath. For a little over two years I have been dealing with Parkinson's Disease. Only recently have my symptoms reached a point where they are more pronounced than before. Some of you have called to ask me whats going on. Others had met me on assignments. The majority have perhaps seen a shake in my hands while on the air. No matter where it was, I wanted our viewers to know I'm in great hands with some fine doctors. My attitude is strong and management here at Fox-13 has been compassionate, caring and concerned. Im ready for what ever battle P.D. has to throw at me in the coming years. After bringing you the morning news for nearly 15 years, I'm not done yet.  If you would like more information about Parkinson's try the website of another P.D. patient, MIchael J. Fox at the Michael J. Fox Foundation for Parkinson's Research. www.michaeljfox.org

Thanks again to all of you for you support.

Hopefuly now you will see the need for stem cell research and how unnnecessarily the present administration is blocking scientific research that may one day lead to a cure for this and other medical conditions.

You and your family are in my prayers.

Be strong and believe!

Tom, my favorite uncle had Parkinson so I have witnessed it first hand. My cousin has ALS, again a neurological disease. Both are tough diseases to deal with but positive thinking and a great attitude makes all the difference and you have that!

I do believe they will find a cure in my lifetime, but there does need to be support for stem cell research.

Please know that you have much support behind you! We will pray for you and you will be in our thoughts. Thank you for sharing your personal trial, that takes a lot of courage!

Tom, I am certain that I speak for everyone on these boards when I say that we view you and the rest of the Fox 13 team almost as "family".

I echo the sentiments of the others and also wish you and your family the best.

You are a class act, my friend.

It's bad enough to hear that someone you don't know has PD like Michael J. Fox, but when someone you DO know is battling it, its even worse; PD has never been in my family that I know of but I worked there with you a long time Tom and I only wish you the very best; glad you have some good doctors and I'm sure that as the months and years go by strides will be made against PD. God bless and I'm sure you'll keep us posted about this. Take care and tell Anne, Howard and Andy hello and tell Jennifer to take her Christmas tree down. Richard Bozeman, Wesley Chapel, FL.

Tom, I have enjoyed watching you on Channel 13 for a very long time. You always have a smile & a quick witted response.
I'm certain your support system at home & at work is very strong. Now you have added the viewers for a stronger force of prayers & thoughts.
I am not very familiar with all that goes on with having Parkinson's Disease. Can we expect a report to educate viewers that haven't encountered the disease first hand?

I have no doubt that you will stay several steps ahead of it!
See you in the mornings! :-)

I am less than 50 years old. Ever since my mid thirties, every once in a while (maybe 2 or 3 times a year), a hand or or arm will get shakey , but inly lasts a few minutes. I often wonder could I possibly have PD. I never see anything about people with PD, never talk about just how early on they first noticed any shaking. Where would I find info like that?

Tom, Thank you for sharing your personal medical problems with us. My thoughts and prayers go out to you. I am thankful to hear that Fox Tampa Bay is supportive of your condition. Having a supportive employer makes living with a life altering condition just a little easier. I have Inflammatory Breast Cancer and my employer,Lake Seminole Animal Hosp. is extremely supportive of my needs and work around the doctors' appts etc.... Good luck to you and I'll keep my eyes on your whole morning family of GDTB.

Tom,
I am 51 years old and was diagnosed with PD approximately 8 years ago by Dr. Pappas here in St. Pete. My wife and I watch you every morning and have both said for the last couple of years that we thought you may have PD. You have the same facial expressions I have. My prayers are with you and your family. Hopefully a cure for PD will be found soon.

I'M THE HOCKEY NUT AT FOX 13. ANYONE WHO KNOWS ME, KNOWS HOW MUCH I LOVE THE SPORT. I'VE PLAYED IT, COACHED IT AND NOW I EVEN REF IT. THAT'S WHAT HAPPENS WHEN YOU RE FROM TORONTO CANADA. MY FAMILY MOVED FROM CANADA TO CALIFORNIA WAY BACK IN 1964. THE GOLDEN STATE IS WHERE MY BROADCASTING CAREER BEGAN AT STATIONS IN SAN JOSE AND SACRAMENTO BUT IN 1994 I MADE THE BEST MOVE OF MY CAREER BY MOVING TO FOX 13 IN TAMPA. NOW 13 YEARS LATER I'M STILL ENJOYING BOTH THE STATION AND THE AREA. I'VE TRADED THE GOLDEN STATE FOR THE SUNSHINE STATE, AND WHAT A TRADE ITS BEEN. BY THE WAY, GO LIGHTNING!
