The U.S. Supreme Court today outlawed putting child rapists to death, as long as they didn't kill their victims.

Time to blog this one. How do you feel about the Supreme Court's decision? Do you think executing a child rapist is fair, even if he/she is not a murderer?

I THINK THAT IT IS WRONG TO SPARE THESE SICK PEOPLES LIVES. THEY DID NOT CARE HOW MUCH PAIN THEY WERE INFLICTING ON THE CHILD OR THEIR FAMILIES!! I BELIEVE EVEN IF THEY DIDN'T TAKE THE LIFE BY MURDER THEY DID TAKE THE LIFE OF THE CHILD AND MAKE IT VERY AGONIZING TO LIVE. I BELIEVE THAT THEY SHOULD BE PUT TO DEATH WE HAVE NO USE FOR THEM!!!!

Just let these people go free and let them live where ever they want to live. Even if its next to a school or park. Leave these innocent people alone.....

OHHH WAIT

Thats what our court systems already do.

Why waste money keeping them in prison for life, just turn back time to public executions and hang em all.

If we have to stay overseas at war. Lets take all our convicts and dress them up in uniforms, bring our troops back and send these convicts over there instead. You do notice I dindt mention giving them anything but uniforms, hint, no weapons.lol

My emotional response? Awful.

Once again our "leaders" seem to regard the rights of monsters more highly than the rights of innocent victims.

The death penalty, while never proven to be an effective deterrent, would however, prevent a repeat offense.

I say move them to a remote island permanently. Let them foist their sicknesses on each other.

"The death penalty, while never proven to be an effective deterrent, would however, prevent a repeat offense"

Hard to Prove when all studies were done by ANTI-Death Penalty advocates out to PROVE THEIR POINT..
ALso..it's Difficult to see it as a deterrent when it takes 25 years to carry out the sentence..THANKS to those SAME advocates..

The SAME is true with the so called expense of the Death Penalty..It ISN'T the Sentence itself that cost so much,, it's the expense of the DELAYS..

I still say the prison system should build a solid stainless steal prison for these animals and put an 18 ft. lightning rod on top of it. Then they can put these animals inside of it and let God and Mother Nature do the rest.

Want real justice? Just transfer them to general population. I understand they LOVE child rapists. That way, the *inmates* "take care" of the child rapists, not the prison staff. Everybody is happy... well, except for the rapist.

Either that, or we can just make their lives so miserable that they'll be suing us to kill them.

OKAY FINE! Parents, siblings, Aunts, Uncles, Grandparents and family friends LIKE ME, will start dealing with the @#$%^&^%$#$%^ OURSELVES!
Want justice? Drop them of at my house! I have a posse standing on ready who will make these miserable, lecherous, vile, predatory, ANIMALS
disappear without a trace! We have PLENTY of swamps full of hungry 'gators that would be more than happy to assist us with OUR OWN methods of FAIR justice! NO DEATH PENALTY for someone who absolutely RUINS, DESTROYS, OBLITERATES, and ANNIHILATES the life of a CHILD by raping them? What kind of pansy, limp-wrist, no-guts, stroke-the-criminal-until-he-falls-asleep society have we become? I AM OUTRAGED!!!!!

I think we need to add the webmasters name to the execution list for deleting posts for trying to help the elderly.

Along with this jerk of a webmaster, yes I think they should start to fry anyone serving life without parole. Reduce the taxpayers costs of keeping them. I will even supply the ammo for free.

Well, the headlines this morning just added fuel to the fire: Corrections officer in Florida Prison raped and killed by repeat rapist already sentenced to life. Even life in prison wouldn't stop this animal from preying on another woman. What else is there as a deterant? Hmmmm... death penalty maybe? Nope. Can't go there. Sigh...

Oryguncb, that would not stop a rapist. It is a proven fact. They are sick individuals who are doing this because they are sick individuals. Cutting off their penis is not going to stop them. Some rapist are women, what can you cut off of them? I guess you can sew them up? Nah! At least we can keep our guns!!!

Rape is not a crime of "sex" it is a crime of anger and control. They view the sex as the ultimate in degridation, intimidation and violation of another human being. It is not until you address those issues that you can have any impact on the offender. Our justic system is not set up or concerned with that however so they can not effectivly ever hope to contain the behaviors. That leaves us with only one option in all rape cases. DEATH for the offender which should be carried out upon sentencing and not drug out over 20 plus years. For those that would contest and say we can't do that because he "might" be innocent, I say he had his trial, 12 people found him guilty and that means he lost, case closed!

The reason behind the ruling was that it violates the ruling against cruel and unusual punishment for a crime. The punishment is supposed to be appropriate to the criminal action taken. The death penalty by our own law is only to be applied when a life is taken, hence an equal punishment to fit the crime.

I agree with the death penalty but in this case it was bound to be overturned because it would have been to easily abused. I think the application of the death penalty to me is something that needs to be addressed on a case by case basis, but with most District Attorneys it's basis is a political decision not an ethical one.

The current laws on the book make no justification for mental state or several other issues of legal precedence. Hence the act of the crime alone can justify the death penalty and other circumstances such as mental illness can't be factored in to many of the state laws supporting the death penalty.

I hate these people as much as anyone else but this was one step back to where we imposed the death penalty for everything from burglary to robbery (last death penalty for a robbery was in the 60's.) I think when we can be objective and truly impartial then we can apply such a permanent punishment to child rapists, until then we need to err on the better side of caution lest we be the one attending our son's or daughters execution for shoplifting.

If you don't think it could move to that, read some of the responses hear. Emotion is a powerful thing and hate is one of the most powerful. Thinking with hate means we can not rationally approach a so

(cont due to page break)

Thinking with hate means we can not rationally approach a solution. Lynch mobs and taking the law into our own hands set's us back a 130 years to when there was truly no law at all because there was no clear black and white.

Life in prison, in any case is much worse than an easy death. Odd's are the prisoners will deal with them in the end anyways.

evilblonde - well at least you made my point for me.

I agree with the death penalty but IT'S NEVER BEEN PROVEN TO BE A DETERRENT! if thats the argument than you are missing the point. It's justice for the victim of an equal and proportionate measure to the crime.

It's use as a deterrent to others is debatable at BEST but ONE thing is BEYOND question and/or debate and THAT is;;;

It's a DAMN good deterrent to the OFFENDER and after all is said and done,, the PRIMARY goal and PURPOSE of a Punishment is to DEAL with the offender,,NOT to engineer social change..
If it deters ONE person,,THAT'S just gravy..

And Sage,,WHERE do YOU get the Idea that the Death Penalty;

"The current laws on the book make no justification for mental state or several other issues of legal precedence. Hence the act of the crime alone can justify the death penalty and other circumstances such as mental illness can't be factored in to many of the state laws supporting the death penalty."

THAT is such a Rediculous Statement as to make one question where you've BEEN for the last 40 years..

How many BJ's are they getting a day? Their brains aren't fuctioning! It would seem that our U.S. Supreme Court are still making things easy for the criminals. I wonder if they would feel the same way if it was their child!
