President Gerald Ford passed away Tuesday evening at the age of 93. As our nation's 38th president, Ford was Richard Nixon's hand-picked successor. He had battled both pneumonia and heart troubles in recent years, and was the country's longest living president when he died.

Feel free to share your thoughts on President Ford here on our blogs. We'll share some of them live on Wednesday's Good Day Tampa Bay.

Back in high school, in myrtle beach south carolina, we did a musical called a night on broadway, which president ford attended. He was the first president I ever met. I got to shake his hand. It was at the myrtle beach chamber of commerce in 1974. He came across as a gentle man I was happy to have met. Sherryll Conti in Clearwater. Thanks for the mermory.

Hand picked??? By who??? Correct me if I’m wrong, but as SPEAKER of the HOUSE and third in line. Don’t you mean succession by CONSTITUTIONAL MANDATE ???

Hawkeye, I do believe that Nixon appointed Ford to the vice-president spot (as per the 25th Amendment), then himself resigned. Thus Nixon chose his successor.

I stand corrected on the Details of his ascendancy. He was , in fact, NOT the Speaker of the House but was instead the Republican minority whip and was NOMINATED to the position of Vice President and requiring the majority votes in BOTH Houses of Congress to CONFIRM as per section 2 of the XXV Amendment…..

Given the HOSTILE nature of the LEGISLATIVE branch towards the EXECUTIVE branch at the time, it is STILL a FAR cry from the “handpicked” portrayal AND it’s negative connotations CLEARLY expressed by the original post…IMHO………..

Politics aside, alas another icon of my youth has departed. It is indeed refreshing to hear President Ford talked about in such positive terms. On the other hand, I haven't yet heard Rosie McDonald's comments. I'm sure that SHE can come up with something nasty to say about him.

Rest in peace, Mister President - Hail to the Chief!

I think even Bahbah Wahwah would fire Rosie if she dissed Mr Ford's memory.
