The season hasn't started yet, but Bucs fans are getting some sad news already: fan favorite Mike Alstott -- better known as the A-Train-- is being placed on the injured reserve. It seems he has re-injured his neck, which kept him off the field for much of the 2003 season.

Alstott has spent 11 years as a Buccaneer, and he has broken record after record. But the veteran fullback said Thursday that he won't be on the field this year as a player.

What do you think? Are you surprised, upset, or disappointed that Alstott's season-- and possibly his career-- is over, or do you think it's the right time for him to hang up the helmet? Tell us your thoughts, and send Mike your wishes here on our blog.

I have always loved alstott, and I completely understand why he went on I.R..I think he'll be missed terribly , but at least we will still be able to see him on the side lines. I so glad they caught it before his injury left him without use of his arms or legs , he has to think of his family first. He is a class act.

I would have to say that Mike Alstott is among the greats that have come and gone in Tampa Bay. Mike your contibution on the field has been great but your contribution off that field is what has really put you into the hearts of this community. I pray that you stay in Tampa Bay, we need great men like you to make a difference.

I had to also fight back the tears when I heard the news. There are no words to decribe how myself and the fans feel about Mike. We love you Mike and I know that this was not an easy decision but I am sure a right one. I wish you well in anything you decide to do.

Your piece on Alstott utilizing a bobble-head doll was in extremely poor taste. Who made the decision to air that unfortunate article? He should be ashamed.

We have been blessed to have Mike on our team, now it’s time for us to be on Mike’s team and verify that he made the correct choice which he did. We would rather have the A-train on the sidelines than in a wheelchair for the rest of his life. His wife, children and community need him healthy. Mike you will never be away from the game it just that God has decided that he needs you to play in a different position that the one you want to at this time.

Mike,

It has been an awsome ride aboard the A-Train!! It will be disappointing for Bucs fans to watch the games without you, but we would rather have you alive and well (in one piece and able to walk dude!). You have been a Great Asset to this Community and To the Team!

It doesn't matter if your working ON the field or OFF! THIS IS A TEAM EFFORT!!! Many People seem to forget that! Sometimes we have to change positions to do what is better for the Team as well as ourselves!

All I can say is that I will always cherish watching the BUCS Games, Win or Loose! From day one I started watching the Bucs with my father every game. We would never miss one! We use to go TO them occassionally at the old stadium (Big Sombrero), until his health couldn't take it anymore and then the Old Stadium went...And my father passed on...Gosh..9 years this month! That first year was really hard to watch without him, but Mom, my sister, my baby nephew and I would gather in the living room and watch the games and FEEL Dad with us! You were one of his favorite Players as Well!

I am sorry to be so long winded... BUT JUST WANT TO THANK YOU FOR ALL THOSE FOND, FOND MEMORIES!!! I WILL CHERISH THEM ALWAYS!!! You didn't know it, but YOU and the rest of the Team were one of the ways we were able to Bond.

What is important is that you take care of yourself and that you will be here for your children... that you will be healthy enough for them to spend time with!!!! I didn't have that luxury. I'm 43 years old and my father was sick most of my life! You know what is right for YO
