Not sure if news or weather is right for this, but....

On the morning of 3/10/08 between 6-6:40 am, I was out taking pictures with my telescope of Jupiter in the e-se skies.  At one point I looked up to the south and a BIG red fireball crossed the southern sky, coming from the west on a downward angle, probably into the Atlantic ocean.  It burn an eerie red and did not burn out.

Does anyone know if this was a natural or manmade fireball?  I heard that there was a sattelite coming down and wondered if this was it?

Wish I had seen that, Watcher. I'm not sure if it was a piece of sattelite. I've seen one re-enter the atmosphere before back in the 80's, but it burned a bright, greenish-blue. I have no idea what it was you saw. Wish I knew.

Maybe those two gentlemen in the black suits and sunglasses coming to visit you could explain what it was.

Hey Candy, cool thing to miss and only a few in a lifetime thing! I saw a fireball up north several years ago, but this one was kinda cool in the reddish hues it had.

I was shooting Jupiter with my camera attached to my telescope in the e-se skies and no way could I get it undone and swung over to catch it, wish I had, they are rare to catch on film!

Probably space debris burning up, metals may have made the red glow.

No MIB, Darrowin, but Brenda G as an alien work?

you know Watcher when I was in my 20's somewhere between 82-84..as I walked down the street with a friend....we saw this thing...it was red, blue and another color i can't remember and it just like darted across the sky it was the most incredible beautiful site..since it was dark you couldnt' tell if it was a ball shape like but it had the effect when you hit a ball going in slow motion and you see the end...(hard to explain) anyways...the next day I heard on the news it was seen in other parts of the country....it brought a big smile and a sense of excitement knowing i was part of it and witnessed it..but never knew what it was.........recently they had this spectaculor history on the planets and explicit recent pictures on aol...did you by any chance get a to read it..i save it in my favorites......truly beautiful....

That's a fireball, Candy!

I see a lot of things while stargazing with my scope and "shooting stars" are a dime a dozen, but when you see a large peice of debris - manmade or natural - burning up slowly and giving off cool colors, it's something to watch!

Just keep them on the horizion and away from me! LOL
