We make difficult decisions in the newsroom everyday.  Yesterday was especially difficult.  We had the story of the female jogger found murdered near an Orange County park Wednesday afternoon... and the five people killed in Sanford as their SUV slammed into a stopped train at a crossing.

We had video of that SUV hitting the train from a helicopter, but chose not to show it on TV.  We didn't think people needed to see these people driving to their deaths.

We also had video of Nicole Ganguzza's family hearing the news that she had been found murdered.  We chose not to show that, too.. out of respect for the family.

These days, it seems a lot of news outlets show you EVERYTHING.  What are your thoughts?  Do you agree with our decision NOT to show these two events?

I personally thought THAT WAS very kind of Fox35...is bad enough those losses were tragic and really regardless whose fault it is I dont' deem them necessary to watch in full context. Imagine a family member that's already mourning the loss..I COMMEND FOX35 for not showing a very sad and very impressive moment captured by the camera.

Well, if there is something I want to see and you don't show it I just turn to the other stations. Somethings I DO want to see and don't want the network to make that decision for me. A grieving family is off limits though to me.

It is or at least used to be the news rooms JOB to report the news. Like pattie said if you dont want to see it change the channel. I think you should have shown it but put out a warning first to give people the option of watching or not. I think it is pretentious of the "news room" to make that decision for us.

You definitely did the right thing by not showing the reaction of Michelle Ganguzza's family reacting to the news of the demise of their precious daughter, sister, granddaughter,
etc... That would have been cruel.
Now showing the THUGS who were running from the cops kill themselves? A whole different situation. Maybe that would have made a little "gangsta" or two pull up their pants, and think twice before they run from the cops! Some of them were grown men! Plenty old enough to know better. THEY got what they deserved: Eternal Justice! I don't want to hear any crap about any of their family members filing "wrongful death" suits against the Sanford P.D., either!

Hey Candy I agree with you. But I also agree with Deborah about those thugs.
Fox News crew, it is your news show and its your choice to show what you want, when you want, and who you want. For the people who dont like it,oh well to bad so sad, go to another channel. I think Fox News does a great job.

I completely agree with your decisions not to show that tape of the family receiving the news of Nicole's family. I have no desire whatsoever of witnessing a family's anguish.

While I can't say I really need to see a video of that truck slamming into the train, I can't really blame others for wanting to see that either. There's a certain amount of satisfaction in seeing a bunch of thugs getting what they deserve.

I think Fox35 did the right thing by not showing the crash and also by not showing the grieving parents.

Eric...I blog before seeing other responses but yes Deborah has indeed made a very good point on the thugs and definately I sure wouldn't (let me rephrase, if I were to hear the families of the thugs try to sue for wrongful deaths) I can only pray that we have enough care in the justice system TO DENIED such bogus and frivolous suits. Good post Deborah. Nice Blog Amy..

I agree with Deb. I wouldn't want to see Nicole's (RIP) family hearing such terrible news. As for the thugs, it might show OTHER thugs just where their "coolness" will lead them. Either way, FOX35 is tops.

you know it seems funny that I swear all of you have at one time or another said something about fox being biased or not enough info or other such nonsense and now you guys are bootlicking and I am asking WHY. Is it not the duty of a news organization to report the news with all facts in place????? People watch the news because it interests them. If you start censoring the news then what do you have. OH it is OK to show the people running into the train but not the grieving family. Where were the outcries from you when it was the father of the guy that killed all of those kids at the college????? Herd mentality and bootlicking. Disgusting

The detailed facts in place is one thing, but to show someone driving to their death or showing someone grieving when that is a private matter for the family is another. There is enough detail before, and few moments right after, and completely after it happened, that I am sure if we really wanted to, we could form the grizzly scenes in our own mind. But in this case, I have to agree with many above that Fox did the right thing. With everything happening on a daily basis the way it is, if the News Team were to bring us every little detail, they might as well make it a 24/7 reality show instead of the news, but then eventually we'd complain about that too.

I didnt mind the Car crash since those people have gotten no sympathy. But you have to go with your standards on that girl killed. So sad. I pray everyday this doesnt happen to my loved ones. Like those little kids shot walking home in the midwest. Sickos out there.

I bet the killer of the girl is a little guy.. with little man syndrome who cant get a girl the normal way. He has to hurt someone that makes him look the fool. That syndrome wouldnt even enter my mind as much as bank robbery, robbing a store, etc. To kill someone means the loser is a loser and needs to die fast in the death chamber.

Not all people are as sick and morbid as you swan. We dont need to see the family in mornin or greiving. However those idiot thugs deserved what they got. Besides it is not cencuring its called a good decision.

I don't think he even saw the train! His headlights were off and at a high speed like that you would know it until you hit it! And what that young girl was doing with all those men.."?"

I agree and appreciate FOX not showing the events mentioned. If it were my family or friends then I would not want to have to see it over and over. I would also like to have a little privacy. Thank you for being respectful at these hard times.

He didn't realize the train was there until about fifteen feet...
The back tires got loose sig...
Its respectful not showing it on cable, but honestly I watched it here a couple of times...
What a jack@ass...
5 people dead because of one idiot...
What a waste...
Cheers to fox for showing some integrity...

YO ERIC when in the *&**& did I say I wanted to see it. I said they should have shown it with a warning first and if people want to watch they can if not turn the channel. When you deliberatly withhold something from part of something else because you think it might be to disturbing or in bad taste then it is called censoring.
