Slavery was a horrible thing..And so was the slaughtering and taking of ones land.

But, should past problems influence how one is viewed..or how one is punished? We can all sympathize with the wrong treatment of any race.

But, it shouldn't be so much sympathy that it clouds our minds of the wrong doing some engage in.

You CAN NOT punish one person and not the other for the same crime.

And if you feel that you can..Then you have just given every Child Molester, Murderer, Rapist..the lead way to go free if he/she was Molested, Raped, or had a loved one who was murdered.

Sympathy yes, viewing the wrong doers as someone who should have special treatment because, he/she was wronged in the past.. "NO".

You can't display your black power flag, if he can't display his white power flag. It is either all or nothing.

Conclusion, stop viewing one another as a race, try viewing as a people!

I'm sorry Tall. Yes the Natives were slaughtered. I understand the wrong treatment of ever race...

I am Apache, Sicilian and Black. each race that i am mixed with, have been enslaved.

I feel bad about the past..But, this is the future..and I think we all need to look forward..instead of focusing on past mistakes.

Thanks for the comment Tall, =)

Indeed. My family came to this country in the early 1900's. My bloodline has never had anything to do with racism or oppression in any way but I'll get piled in with the rest of the white people. I have a speech impairment and have been discriminated against because of it, fired from a job I had. I know this because I had a friend who was working there and the manager who fired me told him that was the reason. I had another job at a liquor store working in the back. The owner had actually offered me a position working up front instead of in the back as a cashier. I said yes, and he said after Christmas. Then it was the summer. Then it again was after Christmas. Bottom line is that it never happened and he had hired cashiers in those time periods. Never had confirmation of discrimination, but I always suspected.

I don't sue, I don't BLEEP (that often), I just better myself. Bell is right. We can either whine about how it used to happen and how it sometimes happens still today, or we can lead by example and get over it, we can learn from it and move forward.

You mean I can't buy some rape credits and then go out and rape somebody? Al Gore gets to! Not fair!

I think it is so wrong for any to think just because, a person is brown he is automatically a mexican. Or just because, someone has white skin, he is a white American..etc.

I always take the time to ask everyone I have some type of interest in..What background are you.

I noticed surprised expressions when I ask that question.

I think that everyone should ask "what background are you".
