Oprah and Obama has been close friends for years. Stands to reason she would reaffirmed her support
for his presidential candidacy. It's her first time and she's going to make it count. I say, way to go Oprah! Just say the word and we'll vote. Oprah has not given Barrack any money.
She says money doesn't matter to him. We all know that her support is worth more than gold. See Oprah's got it like that... and she is doing the right thing
in supporting her people. Now I know my fellow bloggers and bloggetts have a word a two on this topic, so come on with it, then. I rarely post a blog in politics, but here we are.
Democratic presidential candidate Barack Obama says he no longer wears an American flag lapel pin because it has become a substitute for "true patriotism" since the Sept. 11, 2001, terrorist attacks.
Neither do I.....
"I said, you know what, I probably haven't worn a flag pin in a very long time. After a while I noticed people wearing a lapel pin and not acting very patriotic." "My attitude is that I'm less concerned about what you're wearing on your lapel than what's in your heart. You show your patriotism by how you treat your fellow Americans, especially those who serve. You show your patriotism by being true to our values and ideals. That's what we have to lead with is our values and our ideals."
"The truth is that right after 9/11 I had a pin," Obama said. "Shortly after 9/11, particularly because as we're talking about the Iraq war, that became a substitute for I think true patriotism, which is speaking out on issues that are of importance to our national security." "I will not be a president who extends tours for our Guard units overseas while Americans are stranded on rooftops right here at home," Obama said.
He said he would require "a period of rest and standard of readiness" before troops could be redeployed. He called for the head of the National Guard to be elevated to four-star rank and given a seat among the Joint Chiefs of Staff to reflect the heavy reliance on Guard soldiers and reservists during the Iraq war.
"When we've got service members who have to find out that their tour has been extended in a phone call home, we're not keeping that trust and we're not keeping this country safe," Obama said.
He also called for increased mental health services, including screening and treatment for post-traumatic stress disorder. He said nearly half of the National Guard troops returning from Iraq and Afghanistan suffer from psychological problems, yet little emphasis is put on treating those disorders.
"We're not providing adequate treatment, screening and benefits," said Obama. "We need more mental health professionals and more training to recognize the signs."
Amen brother... preach! Are you feeling Obama yet.... Do you hear him?
Let's blog...
Clarence Thomas has risen from the tiny town of Pin Point, GA all the way to becoming a Supreme Court Justice. Emmmm.
He's written a book about his journey, titled "My Grandfather's Son: A Memoir." In it, he describes the challenges he has faced in his life, including accusations of sexual harassment by Anita Hill which arose during his confirmation hearings back in 1991.
Do you think Mr. Thomas is a a man of principles?
Are you surprised that he did an interview for anyone?
Some people say Thomas surfaced after he thought America had forgotten the case with Anita Hill. Do you agree? Do you remember Anita HIll and the issues surrounding them?
Some say Thomas is invisible in the Black community. Others say Thomas represent nothing; especially in the Black community. Isn't it time for him to retire?
I agree with some who say that, they find it funny that when a conservative black, whether it is Condalezza Rice, Colin Powell, or Clarence Thomas, is appointed to a top office in the country, they somehow become not part of the "Black community" and instead become a target to Jesse Jackson, Al Sharpton and other of like mind, yet for Robert Byrd, a former member of the Ku Klux Klan, it's all in his past and doesn't count because he is a Democrat liberal...
What's your thoughts?

Al Sharpton's Ancestors Were Slaves Owned by Strom Thurmond's Relatives,
The Rev. Al Sharpton said it was "shocking" to learn he was descended from a slave owned by relatives of the late Sen. Strom Thurmond — a man he'd met only once in an encounter he called "awkward."
The civil rights leader learned of his connection to Thurmond, once a symbol of segregation, through The Daily News, which asked genealogists to trace Sharpton's roots. "It was probably the most shocking thing in my life," Sharpton said, the same day the tabloid revealed the story.
The professional genealogists, who work for Ancestry.com, found that Sharpton's great-grandfather, Coleman Sharpton, was a slave owned by Julia Thurmond, whose grandfather was Strom Thurmond's great-great-grandfather. Coleman Sharpton was later freed. "Based on the paper trail, it seems pretty evident that the connection is there," said Mike Ward, a genealogist with Ancestry.com. Ward called the link "amazing." The revelations surfaced after Ancestry.com contacted a Daily News reporter who agreed to have his own family tree done. The intrigued reporter then turned around and asked Sharpton if he wanted to participate. Sharpton said he told the paper, "Go for it."
The genealogists, who were not paid by the newspaper, uncovered the ancestral ties using a variety of documents that included census, marriage and death records. Thurmond, of South Carolina, was once considered an icon of racial segregation. During his 1948 bid for president, he promised to preserve segregation, and in 1957, he filibustered for more than 24 hours against a civil rights bill.
But Thurmond was seen as softening his stance later in his long life. He died in 2003, at 100. The longest-serving senator in history, he was originally a Democrat but became a Republican in 1964. His children have acknowledged that Thurmond fathered a biracial daughter.
Essie Mae Washington-Williams' mother was a housekeeper in the home of Thurmond's parents. Sharpton, who ran for president in 2004 on a ticket of racial justice, said he met Thurmond only once in 1991 when he visited Washington, D.C., with the late soul singer James Brown, who knew Thurmond. Sharpton said the meeting as "awkward." "I was not happy to meet him because what he had done all his life," Sharpton said. Sharpton said he hadn't attempted to contact the Thurmond family.
As far as he knew, the family hadn't tried to call him, either. Some of Thurmond's relatives said the nexus also came as a surprise to them.
A niece, Ellen Senter, said she would speak with Sharpton if he were interested. "I doubt you can find many native South Carolinians today whose family, if you traced them back far enough, didn't own slaves," said Senter, 61, of Columbia, S.C., told The Daily News. She added: "And it is wonderful that (Sharpton) was able to become what he is in spite of what his forefather was." One of the late senator's sons, Paul Thurmond, and a nephew, Barry Bishop, declined comment.
Can you can honestly say, "Homosexual marriage is just as good as heterosexual marriage."
Are homosexuals born gay, or are their homosexual attractions a result of their childhood and adolescent environments?
Is homosexual sex more risky than heterosexual sex?
How healthy are gay and lesbian relationships in comparison to heterosexual relationships?
Are children benefited or harmed by being raised in the homes of gay and lesbian couples?
Do you agree that Religiously and morally, America cannot endorse same-sex relationships?
Why do you believe that the "Christian right" is singled out by gay rights activists? Did you know that the teachings of the three most prominent religions in America - Christianity, Judaism, and Islam - all declare gay and lesbian sexual behavior to be immoral?
Many people agree that the vast numbers of Americans oppose homosexual relationships because they view these relationships as immoral. Are you willing to allow gays and lesbians to live their lives as they choose, with the view that "it's a free country"?
Do you agree that the religious freedoms of vast numbers of Americans will be put in jeopardy if same-sex marriages are legalized?
Some Politicians agree that gay and lesbian people are free to make decisions about their own behavior, but it is wrong to try and force all of society to accept that behavior as legitimate and moral. Do you agree that efforts to legalize same-sex marriage are attempts to do just that?
Some comedians agree that homosexuals should be free to feel just as miserable as everybody else and experience the same problems heterosexuals have experienced in marriage. (a joke) Do you agree?
Some say that homosexuals want the marriage but wish to skip out on alimony or child support or other types of support once their relationships end. Would you agree that if they want the joys of marriage, that they should also have to the responsiblity of paying support to their spouse and children, should the marriage or domestic partnership end?
A marriage is the legal and religious and social union of one man and one woman, a union that is designed to form the most stable home environment for producing and raising children. While traditional marriages contain normal human beings, with all their faults and shortcomings, the nuclear family remains the strongest and healthiest of all models. To call anything else "marriage" is to weaken the very fabric that helps hold society together.
Would you then agree that The Marriage Protection Amendment seeks to ward off efforts to damage that fabric in an already turbulent American culture?
What are your thoughts?
