It’s called leadership. Cleveland Mayor Frank Jackson has none of it. He may have been a good councilman, but he’s not a “Mayor”. Plain Dealer columnist Phillip Morris believes Jackson cares. Let's ask Nick DiGiorgio what he thinks. He’s the son of the woman hit and killed in Playhouse Square. The mayor has never even bothered to call and offer his sympathies. It’s an outrage.

Let me stop the complaining for a moment and outline some of what I would as your Mayor.

1). All panhandlers will immediately be removed from the city proper. 2). The Mounted Unit would patrol the downtown area and Warehouse District. 3). I will adopt a Broken Windows law. The smaller signs of disorder like graffiti and vandalism will be severely dealt with. 4). Computer mapping will enable the Cleveland Police Department identify precise locations with the highest cases of violent crime so they can direct their resources accordingly. 5). Cases of Police misconduct or excessive violence will be dealt with severely 6). Police middle management will be reduced to put more patrols on the street. More officers will be hired. 7). Community Policing has become convoluted. Social-service aspects of community policing will be removed. An Officers duty is to make sure people can walk the streets safely. 8). The residency law will be eliminated but tax credits offered for those who do want to live in the city. 8). Taxes will be cut and a pro-business plan developed. A whole new economic development office will be opened and those currently in this area will be fired. An economic Czar will be hired. 9). Burke Airport will be eliminated. In its place will be a mix of retail, housing and parks. The Grand Prix will be moved downtown and the Air Show to another airport. 10). Anyone caught wearing sagging pants and who exposes his or her underwear will be subject to a fine of up to $150 plus court costs, or face up to 15 days in jail. 10). The Schools CEO will have the authority to hire and fire anyone, period. Principal tenure will end. 11). There will be school based budgeting to show taxpayers how money is being spent. 12). All money will be tied to reforms and performance standards.

Leadership and popularity is not the same thing. People follow you because you are a person of integrity. You are visible. You tell the truth, you don’t waffle and you don’t take polls. You do the right thing. You stand for what’s right. Cleveland deserves better than what it has. It is a great city.

P.S. Let me add to my list:

1). I will appoint an environmental Czar. Cleveland will become a national environmental leader. The city’s entire fleet of vehicles will be converted to hybrid and/or cars/trucks using E-85.

2). The entire area from City Hall to Browns Stadium will support a state of the art wind farm.

3). All parks and pools will be open with strict curfews imposed. There will also be a plan to open new green areas. Neighborhoods will be asked to pitch in.

4). Cleveland will be a model world-wide for treating and caring for people with HIV/AIDS.  I will kick off this initiative with a free concert at Burke Airport (just before I move it over) with Bono and U-2.

5). We will start a new program empowering faith based groups who are currently doing incredible work in the city. They will get full support from city hall for outreach.

I am not done yet....any more ideas out there?

Here's a good job title for him: FORMER Mayor.

Get ready to be attacked for your proposals. Some around here equate going after panhandlers and baggy pants as targeting a certain segment of the populace. They sure couldn't hurt though, looking at the situation Cleveland is in right now!!

account for anything?

Luv you Bill!

Hey, how about SPAM free internet access?

Don't give in to hybrid cars for the city. Issue bicycles to everyone instead. The cost of Gas will not affect the budget, people will limit the "abuse" of city vehicles, and your employes will be much more healthy, bringing down health care costs of your administration.

The Mayor stated he doesn't care for the " fan fair". Did he not realize before hand that this is a job in which he must answer directly to the public? They are supposedly getting rid of one of the police precincts downtown. What do they do? Fund a trip to Detroit to see how they can do more with less seeing as Detroit went from 13 to 6 precincts. Who paid for that? Was it money well spent? What they don't tell you is how it has affected Detroit. And what they don't tell you is whether or not lessening the number of precincts also decreased the number of officers. Did they move them and enlarge the 6 districts remaining? How much did this little recon trip to Detroit cost the taxpayers?
Bill,
I don't live in Cleveland but I am a Clevelander. What an awesome city! One thing I would like to do is start a voluntary clean up program. Every Saturday/Sunday. Get some people out on the streets with sticks and garbage bags. One street, one road, one neighborhood a week! There is an exchange from 176 north to 90 west that is a disgrace. I mean filthy. This is what people see when they come or go from Cleveland? The city can provide some police units, barriers and a few city trucks and workers. People will do this, I know they will. Designated 1 or 3 or 5 miles of roadway to be swept each week. Jackson says he walks the steets, let him tell us where the most help is needed! Your other agenda's ? Tell me this. At this point, what can hurt? Well, maybe a new Convention center!! I say chop some cushy jobs at city hall and hire more police officers with the cash..

Bill, I like your ideas! You've said alot more here than the mayor ever has. I especialy like the idea about the environment.

One to add: instead of building a new convention center, Cleveland shold try to attract companies that make energy efficient products(like solar panels, wind energy, hybrid cars) This is a new industry and now would be a good chance for Cleveland to get the jobs and more money into the area. It could be a big industry for Cleveland similar to cars in Detroit.

One I have to disagree with is the baggy pants law. I think it would cause un necessary work for the police to do and add more people to the over crowded underfunded jail system. I could see a criminal getting away while a cop is dealing with a baggy pants offender. More money needs to be invested in the police and decrease the response time.

Being the mayor of Cleveland is easier said than done. But go ahead - vote the guy (Mr. Bill) in. ACTIONS speak louder than WORDS. And once you have voted your Great White Hope in...let the political holocaust in Cleveland begin! Treading on the civil rights of citizens will keep Cleveland not only in the news but in the courts as well.

Although Mayor Frank White appears to be MIA, that doesn't mean that he is the reason for ALL that has been wrong with Cleveland for a very long time. Also, even though I feel he could've called and expressed condolences with the DiGiorgio family - could there be legal reasons for not contacting the family? Does the mayor of a city typically contact family members every time a citizen is a victim of a crime? I get the feeling that even if he had contacted the family, his critics would've accused of him of doing it for "political gain."

Mayors of Cleveland have come and gone - and the problems of Cleveland just keep growing...and with all the hotair Bill Martin and supporters are planning to blow, I imagine it'll be that way for a long, long, long, time.

In the meantime Mayor Jackson - wake up and smell the coffee...and watch ya back. This so-called calvary looks more like a customized lynch mob - made just for you and certain citizens of Cleveland.

...and Mayor Bill, here's a suggestion for ya -
Start getting the license plate numbers of suburbanites who come into Cleveland City neighborhoods and patronize the drug houses of these young thugs as well as other crimes and then send REALLY, unprofessional nasty letters to

LovelyHoney CONTINUED....

But here's another suggestion for your future mayor - start getting the license plate numbers of suburbanites who come into Cleveland City neighborhoods and patronize the drug houses of these young thugs as well as other crimes and then send REALLY, unprofessional nasty letters to their homes - DIRECTLY FROM THE NEW MAYOR'S OFFICE.

...and all will be right with the world.

lets see...why blame the mayor when its the voters who elected him.

1st thing is to get rid of the panhandlers open up jobs in or around the city.

tax the millionars than the poor. fire the people who wish to tax the poor to send them to be homeless and future panhandlers. hire all the ones who were cut a few years ago. aboplish the 'got to live in the city to work in the city business'. get a better road crew that can work faster than it is taking to fix a street on Euclid.

and Tri-c is not a sin its voting a mayor that has no balls running a city to face the people.

I'm an Irish kid who grew up outside of Buffalo, New York. My mother and her family are from Ohio. I remember getting fabulous ice cream as a kid at the Isley's in Andover. It was a great treat on the way to grandma's. My uncles farm in Kinsman was Ohio’s Outstanding Regional Century Farm in 1999. I have called in the cows but was never any good at milking. I have many awards from my years in television but I hope this other stuff is more interesting. I also love golf and playing with the kids when I am not at the anchor desk. I need the rest from Stacey Bell. She's is very demanding of my time. Blessings to all who stop here.
