Guess what people integrity matters. It matters at home and it matters at work. In fact some jobs demand a little more from us. For example, I have a morals clause in my contract. I am held under moral and ethical scrutiny.

For those of you who say, you can’t talk about wrongs, you can’t bring morality into society, you can’t bring morality into government…rights is a moral word.

If you have rights, you also have wrongs. Columbus police officer Susan Purtee is wrong. The self produced you tube show she does with her sister is wrong.

Our myfoxcleveland.com poll question asks this, "A Columbus police officer is in trouble for comments that she made on YouTube. ... Does it matter what a public employee says when they are not on the job?" Right now the response is about 50/50. Are you kidding me?

Recently I invited to speak to an Ohio police officers convention here. The topic I chose to speak on was integrity. Sound leadership is founded on integrity. If you want to be a leader in your home, your community, at work, you have to get things in tandem in your life.

It’s not always the popular thing to do, but it is the leadership thing to do. Leadership and popularity are not the same thing. A YouTube post might be popular and it might also lack integrity.

If you want to be a person of integrity you have to care about the small things in life. You have to care about your private life. Integrity is what you are in the dark.

Can we please become people who value integrity more than image? Can we please monitor our intake? We are not garbage containers. Can we please have peopled who speak the truth? Truth and trust go together.

Bill

Knowing right and wrong and morality are important, especially in public office jobs. And this woman is a cop. It really makes you wonder if she was unfair to different races while on the job. If she is making videos showing her racism on You Tube, I'm sure she is just as bad on the job. Of course you know Bill, working in the media there really is no ''private life'' It's about being responsible and being a good person.

Also, I voted yes in the pole and now it is 52-47. There should be a much bigger difference between those two numbers

My daughter is a volunteer firefighter. She feels that she represents the fire department at ALL times. To me she is one of the pillars of our society. Someone who is willing to risk her own life for strangers, and she always carries herself as a young lady to be respected.
I am a stay at home mom. (retired now- the kids are grown) And as a mom I believe I should carry myself in a respectable manner.
I may not be a millionaire, but what we have---we got it honest.
Integrity is hard to find. I use to think a handshake meant something---but now a days it doesn't.
All we can do is work on our own morality and hope it rubs off on those around us.

There are a lot of people who feel that you can separate work from home personal behavior. That one does not effect the other. I totally disagree. If they are a jerk at home they are a jerk at work. They may hide it better in public but eventually they reveal themselves.

I think we are a society of concerned people that do nothing about our concerns but complain. The garbage containers are over flowing Bill. This cop should have been yanked from her job immediately and without hesitation. Explanation? We don't hire racists or bigots. Done. No court case, no wrongful dismissal. You are who you are. America's Most Wanted aired a show this past week about a murderer. He was a stock broker by day and a Hell's Angel by night. My point? Although he was a successful stock broker, he was a Hell's Angel day and night. If your a bigot or racist, it not 12 hours of one and 12 hours of the other. Its 24 hours of misleading and misrepresenting yourself with a total lack of integrity. Keep posting Bill, I think you are opening a lot of eyes, because it takes someone with a little concern to give people some direction.

Bill - "Can we please become people who value integrity more than image?" - Remember the days when you said "Integrity" and moral relativism didn't poison the well of integrities definition?

"Can we please monitor our intake? We are not garbage containers." - One might start with a daily intake of God's word, the Bible. Then allow the "Owners Manual" to change the way we think and behave. Allow God's truths and His ways to reorder our ways so that we Love Him and love our neighbors.

"Can we please have peopled who speak the truth? Truth and trust go together." - Again, I can still remember a day when truth wasn't relative and everyone knew what was true and what was false. Look how far we have come, and at what cost. Truth is true for you, but it isn't true for me. I don’t trust your truth… (sigh)

Well said HybridTalk.
The greatest commandment is Love Your Neighbor as you love yourself. Another is do unto others as you would have them do unto you. If these principles are practiced daily then the trust will build and the truth will be there.
A lie stands on one leg and the truth stands on two.

I'm an Irish kid who grew up outside of Buffalo, New York. My mother and her family are from Ohio. I remember getting fabulous ice cream as a kid at the Isley's in Andover. It was a great treat on the way to grandma's. My uncles farm in Kinsman was Ohio’s Outstanding Regional Century Farm in 1999. I have called in the cows but was never any good at milking. I have many awards from my years in television but I hope this other stuff is more interesting. I also love golf and playing with the kids when I am not at the anchor desk. I need the rest from Stacey Bell. She's is very demanding of my time. Blessings to all who stop here.
