A song called "Press One for English" offended many audience members, including elected officials at a law enforcement awards banquet in Plant City.

Hillsborough County Commissioner Kevin White said the song's lyrics contained anti-immigrant themes and urged non-English speakers to leave the United States.

The song was performed by a Kentucky-based husband and wife duet called The Rivoli Revue. They were hired as entertainment for Tuesday's East Hillsborough Law Enforcement Appreciation Dinner.

Doug Gibbs, the treasurer of the committee that organized the dinner, said he's sorry that the performance overshadowed a worthy cause. Gibbs told the St. Petersburg Times he never heard the song and apologized if it offended anyone.

The Rivoli Revue could not be reached for comment.

I know it is really sad that you have to push 1 for english now. I thought it was really sad when I tried to enroll my 5 yr old in summer school and the papers I had to fill out didn't even say white anymore. The application papers you have to fill out for your kids now only say are you hispanic or non hispanic, nothing else, can you believe that.

If you go to their website http://rivolirevue.com/english_temp.html
it even has a blog on their website so you can tell them what you think about the song. And I also found out that they are selling the CD with this wonderful amazing song for only 5 dollars right now, I think I would buy every copy if I had the money. :) I would definitely go and see them in concert if they ever came around where I live just to thank them for standing up for what they believe cause I know there isn't as many standing up for America and the United States the way they should be including me and I feel really ashamed that I don't do much more but I am thankful that these great people made this wonderful song.

I KNOW EXACTLY WHAT YOU MEAN, I had to change my number on my son's emergency card that they have in the office and I had to talk to two different people and spell his last name like 3 or 4 times before they could find his card and it is really pitiful now. I mean people should atleast know how to speak english if nothing else if they want to teach our kids. I don't care if there is spanish classes in school or not, but if you are in the office working then you should be able to understand and speak english well enough for someone to understand you. I am sorry but I am getting so tired of all these people that want us to learn their language when they are in America where English is spoken. If they want us to learn their language then they should have to learn ours two, it shouldn't be so one sided as it is right now .

Thanks to affirmative action not only do they not have to be educated in the english language but they don't have to be educated or qualified for the jobs that they do. All they have to do is have dark skin and be considered a minority and they are in.
My husband and I went to Pep Boys a few days ago looking for vent shades for the car. Not only could no one understand what we were talking about but no one spoke english. In fact one of the counter guys told my husband in spanish that he had to go find someone who could understand "some" english. By the time we left the store I was mad enough to spit bullets.

The words to our song “Press One For English” where inaccurately quoted. The lyrics are as follows:

“Press One For English”

Hey, I can’t read that sign out there please tell me what’s it say
We have to have sub-titles in five languages these days
Now we don’t ask too much to share this land of liberties
But if it’s not too much to ask could you please speak English

Chorus: English is my language it’s the language of this land
And every sign that’s posted here I should understand
I do not live in China, Mexico, no foreign place
And English is the language of The United States

Now I’ll speak very clear for you so there’ll be no mistake
My family fought and died protecting freedoms in these states
Now we all welcome those who come but when you reach our shores
Folks you should speak our language not the one you spoke before

Repeat Chorus

Now I’m proud of this country and this great democracy
And I believe an open door should be our policy
But for these opportunities we’d simply ask you this
Hey you’re the one who chose to come now choose to speak English

Now here’s one thing I question and try to understand
Hey why must I press one f

When it’s the language of this land

I have not seen all the lyrics but I have to agree - it is so funny that they wrote the song because I have said over and over "Why should I have to pick 1 for english???? In fact when I call places that have that I say "OF COURSE I WANT ENGLISH!!"

Why are all of you folks complaining? This didn't happen over night. What did you do while it was happening? Did you ever call or write a letter to congress or the president? Did you ever organize or participate in a protest or demonstration? You probably called people who talked about it "conspiracy theorists" or radicals.

The Hispanics exercise "their" constitutional rights better than most Americans ever have. They should be recognized as role models. Americans have the best government that money can buy. Isn't that what they have wanted all along? Pay others to do the heavy lifting.

The best government money can buy LMAO well at least you got the money can buy part right, its probably one of the most corrupt governments in the world .my self love this country and even served this country ,but when I get to the point where it doesnt feel like my country anymore well ,thats a problem our kids shouldnt be forced to learn another language in their oun country .If these want to come here LEGALLY I have no problem with that however like the old saying goes when in rome do as the romans .well while your in America SPEAK our language or get the "F " out simple as that ,and if you dont like that then by all means go to their country and tell them they have to start speaking english see how far you get , we cant prey cause it offends the non believer, we cant pledge the flag because of other cultures dont like it,they want us to learn spanish so we can communicate with the illigals that should be deported any way. all I can say is if you care so much about the people that want to take our rights away to suit them well maybe you should hop on the next bus of illigals that get sent back across the border.after all thats why we are fighting the terrorist right now because they dont like the way we live and want to change the world ,so to me that makes these people terrorist also ,they dont like our way of life so they hop the fence illigally and protest in our streets and try to change it ,Its BS and I for one will be at the front of the line to fight against it.

Personally, I won't speak Spanish. I know a little Spanish, but I'll be dammed if I'm going to give these people the time of day. When I get someone on the phone who doesn't speak English, I politely, but firmly tell them to put someone on the phone who speaks English. Then they say "but I do speak English" and I say, "not very well, now shut up and get me someone who can understand what I'm saying." Sound prejudiced? Tough. You want my business, Speak English.
