Am I the only person in the US to realize that making "rabbit ears" obsolete is a serious problem?  How many of you have small battery operated TV's as part of you hurricane supplies?  I have a small palm sized one that I need to use as a first responder for the Solid Waste Mgmt. Dept. in case of an emerengy like a hurricane. The converter box is twice the size... and will it work without electricity?  Brighthouse moving the county's channel to one that requires extra $$$ was bad enough as we are told to turn to the channel in case of an emergency situation.  We all know that satelite and cable TV are the first things to go during a storm.

And... have you tried to complete the online form to order the box?  I tried at least 10 times and kept getting told that my address was incorrect or not in an acceptable format!

No surprise. All Big Business cares about is getting our money. Our safety means nothing to them. You raise very valid points. Great post.

Thanks Vittorio. Since I work for the County it is important for me to get info during emergency situations. And, you can not imgagine how many TV's we get at the Household Chemical and Electronics collections... perfectly good TV's! When I work the collections I ask people why they are getting rid of the old TV's... if still working. They all say because of the new format, that their TV's will be useless.

I am an Environmental Specialist with Hills. Cty. Basically, I am a "dumpster diver". I also do a lot of educational graphics design about the proper disposal of household chemical & electronics, litter, etc. My hobbies are very diverse... golf and reading, with sci-fi, forensic mysteries, and history being my favorites. My other passion is photography, mostly nature. Ever since experiencing my first hurricane in Florida, Cleo in 1964 when I was 15, when the eye went over my house, I have been fascinated with weather. I have a 99% accuracy... including predicting Charley's turn away from Tampa the night before he hit down south.
