FL apologies for slavery

When you click on the story you see "go to blog".  I don't see a blog... so I am going start one.

Why should FL apologize for slavery?  It was the way of life back then.  At the same time white women were "enslaved".  They have been thoughout our entire history, are still  in many countries.  In early US history the only "employed women" were hookers.  We women worked hard, are still working hard, to get recognition, fighting for jobs, etc.  No apology from FL.

I don't see FL making formal apologies for the "enslavement of women".  I don't see where FL made a formal apology to the Jews.  My friend, from jr hi, a jew in Miami Beach in the late 50's was made to sit at the back of the classroom! 

As I said, slavery was a way of live... started long before the US.  I don't agree with it but, as someone said, (and I paraphrase....) "People who want to ignore history are doomed to repeat it." 

You are Americans... not African-Americans.  If you want to use both terms... it's American-African!  You were born here!  I wasn't, but I say that I am an American because, although  born in France, my parents were American.  I am not a racist.  I just can not tolerate people who want things to change because of their heritage, with disregard for other people.

To continue... Obama... say he loses... Sharpton has been heard to say that there will be big problems... riots (led by him?) because of racism.

I propose this... if Hilary is not chosen... women should riot. Since women out number men... we can claim "Anti-Womanism"!

Don't forget the Native Americans...they should be the first in line for apologies. ..this was their home before we took it over and then good old Andrew Jackson signed the Indian Removal Act...so on and so forth, Trail of Tears, Wounded Knee..History is History and hopefully we learned from it.
They keep beating us over the head with the Slavery issue and many of us are getting quite sick and tired of it.

I'm 75% Native American, and I certainly don't SEE, NOR EXPECT any apologies...... I subscribe to the count your blessings and get on with the days work stablishment..

Everyone that expects an apology needs to show up with documentation which particular ancestor of thiers was a slave.

It will be a short line.

What most people do not realize, or fail to realize, is that the "blacks" have their African relatives to blame. Many of the slave traders in Africa were black. Tribal leaders would "sell out" to "whites" in order to get rid of rival tribes, or sell their own wives and children for some trinkets. They even took other people to be their slaves.

So stop blaming the US for your problmes... blame your own people!

No one alive today can claim they were a slave. I didn't own one, my dad didn't own one, and my grandfather didn't own one. I don't owe them ANYTHING.

Right charli. The same with the Jews. Many worked along with the nazis to destroy thier own race.

Why is another race more privileged?

Why does another race think they are better than THAT? They weren't exterminated like cockroaches, and were compensated for thier work and allowed to reproduce.
The Jews were not allowed that simple freedom!

But the Jews are white? That makes thier suffering less important?

I think the self called "African Americans" would cease to whine if they knew the suffering of other races before them.

They had it easy, as compared to others.

Daytona... great post! Most of the Jews were told that they and their families would be allowed to live only to find out that they were spared for only a short time.

And, the last I heard, race had to do with black, white, oriental, and space alien. Jews were not a "race"... okay, Hitler thought they were. They were a religion.

Did you see what the Pope said today? Muslims out numbers Catholics! The Pope did not acknowledge other Christians. What a dumb man!

No we do not owe apologies , sorry but the list would go on forever,for all races.Slavery started in their own country by their own people , just like it does over diamonds,their the ones that owe them apologies. None of our flags should change. Our State song should not have changed, I haven't even heard the new one and don't care to. We don't go trying to change all the things in their country.

Charli, Jews are considered a race, and they were considered as such in the eyes of Hitler. It had nothing to do with religion.

Americans are amazingly still considered a race in the eyes of most of the world, despite the many diffent races and religions allowed here.

9/11 is proof enough of that.

It is not about slavery starting “over there” or “ I wasn’t around, I didn’t do it, I didn’t have a slave” and yada, yada, yada, yada, yada etc.

You live here in the enchanted land that was taken by force, they called it conquest; it was “Manifest Destiny.” I call it a bad case of “Man infested with dysentery!” The
European disease that put the world at dis-ease; the crap flowed over everything and still stinks to the high heavens.

How sanctimonious to hold ones self. If you are “white or What-ever Caucasian-American you claim to be; Irish, German, English, Spanish, Italian and so on, White … now, you have enjoyed the culmany of your fathers. You have enjoyed the fruits – bitter sweet – stolen from the whole of the Peoples that didn’t invade your fathers homelands.

Your fathers, if your “White, Caucasian, of European Ancestry and ethnicity or nationality”, had this most astounding attitude …paraphrased as,

” what is mine is mine, whatever I see is mine, and whatever is yours is mine … and if you dare to not give me what I want … I will murder your family, what members I don’t enslave and sell as I see fit, because they are mine too. ”

You in this day and age didn’t do anything that your fathers did. That, I acknowledge. However your fathers placed a debt on your back. I also think that they won't understand the subtle inference's and comparissons. SAD - that the sound byte society is in a route step non-thinking, the id only concerned with self.

Iro... it is sad. I like the "id" statement. "id only concerned with self" = ego. Good phrase. I have to remember that one. I love to confuse people. My boss is always late for work, and always has excuses for leaving early. Heaven forbid I should ask to leave a few minutes early. I am always at work early. One time he made he gave me an argument about leaving early. My response... "But I am always early to work. I was tuaght, at an early age, to be some place 30 minutes to one half hour early." I've used this on him several times... he has never even blinked at the comment. But then again, He is a perfect example of your "id" comment.

I just re-read the entire blog and it dawned on me that it isn't so much taking blame as it is recognizing that their is a problem and taking "responsibility." Enslavement in other places is not the issue. It is how enslavement on these shores, in this land netted human beings under the yoke of bondage. It hasn't stopped, though many people are aware of it.

Responsibilty - accountability, recognizing that the hurt transends generations, and the pain that swells with anger, is a people that preceives disparagement. Continued denial of the reality, will fuel a fire that needs to be extinguished with something as simple as " I'm sorry." And mean it. I want my children and your children and their children to live side by side in peace. I wish that we all had the same value of life and respect for each other.
It isn't hard. But then people with shor memories, short sight, and self indulgence can't see past the "me."

Much like your boss. Keep at it, one day I hope, his boss will notice and you will be the boss.
