It's about time!  I want the sun up in the AM and the dark when it is time to go to bed.  If I remember correctly, it was France who first changed the time.  We adopted the idea during the WW's, to allow workers to work longer in factories for the war effort.  Then it was extended for "agricultural purposes".  Then again, years later, FL wanted to keep it... something to do with school hours.  Then it was extended as part of the energy "crisis".  The last part was the most ridiculous... "If it is dark in the AM we will use less electricity. ' Duh... it's cooler in the AM.  It's the extended daylight hours that use the most electricity...  when we went to the extended DL Savings time... my electric bill went up for that extra month last fall!  I hate to see what this month's bill will be.  Thank goodness for thecold fronts when I did not have to run my AC.

A bit of history about DSL... Some claim that Ben Franklin invented it, some say that this guy, Willet, from England invented it a century after Ben did. Ben just brought the idea to the US after a visit to France where they adjusted time in the summer. Willet "invented" it in 1909 because he wanted more time to play golf. (Personally I like to play in the early AM so the early switch this year really messed up my game!)

Actually, DSL has been around throughout history... since time began '-)
The Pagans made adjustments after the equinoxes, the Romans also... certain things had to be done at certain "times" of the day...

Many countries who adopted DSL have abandoned it. Many countries never used it.

Personally, I don't like it being dark in the
AM because drivers aren't really awake.. the sun in their eyes wakes them up!

I dont mind it. I kinda like the extra daylight in the evenings so I can mow the lawn during the week and not have to on the weekends! *grin*

Funny but this time of year is when you hear people complain and see more stories about how annoying it is. Conversley, you never hear anyone moan in the fall when they get an extra hour's shut-eye! Even if it's only for a day.

Well, I don't like springing forward OR falling back!

I wish they would leave the clock alone!

This should be a nationwide choice. Six months out of the year we would not have the same time as the other states in the Eastern time zone. I don't care for it, but if not all are in leave it alone.

If more states revert back to standard time, it will probably become a national effort. Even the last holdout, IN, is now realizing that it was a mistake to give in and go to DST

Just realized I said DSL in my first post ;-(

Another reason I hate the switch is that by the time my eyes get adjusted to the sun in them as I drive east to work, or west on the way home, we switch times and I have to start over again!

As a child in the 50's in OH I would experience DLS on my summer trips to NYC. OH didn't switch until sometime in the 60's but I had already moved to Florida. I don't recall when FL started making the switch... I just remember that I hated it!

I love falling back, but hate springing forward. I love it when it gets dark early (I'm a night person). Hubby loves it when it stays lighter later so he can get work done in the yard and not have to do it on the weekend.

Anyone here remember a life without DST? Anyone old enough? I found out that FL went with DST in the mid to late 60's. I was just out of highschool... it meant my father finding more chores for me to do! I wanted to have fun with my friends!

As long as I can remenber we have had daylight savings time. It dosn't bother me to change the clocksand I guess it's because this is always the way it's been done as long as I can remember. I like having more daylight in the evening so our little boy has more time to play outside. You'd have to have an autistic child to understand this I guess.

It has a minimal affect on humans as compared to animals.

One glaring example being dairy cows. Do they realize they will be getting milked earlier or later?

I am sure this affects most other animals too, that are destined for the food chain.

PETA should be up in arms about this!

Janice... sorry to hear about your child. When I was in College, my study was education for the "special" children based on my experience as a child in my old hometown where there was a young boy with Downs. The sad thing about society today is that parents don't really care about what their children do in the evenings. It's easier to send the child to his room... and computer, so that parents can get on their own computers!

You seem like a loving responsible parent. My love to you and your young man.

Of all the states that would consider such a proposal...Florida's climate and weather is far too nice to be spending it inside in the dark.

DST provides those of us who work the traditional 8-5 job an opportunity to enjoy outdoor activities more than just 2 days/week.

Charli: I was born in Ohio and lived there until 1968. My mother was a school teacher in the next town over. I can remember when I was very young, the town where she taught did not observe DST but the town where we lived did. That was weird although it is a pretty didtant memory.

I believe that it was Jerry Seinfeld that suggested it (although I had been saying it for years before I heard him say it)...

Why not change the clocks 1/2 hour - put it in the middle - and LEAVE it there?

Floyd... where in Ohio?

In response to Insdr13... but the extra daylight in the evening uses more electricity... when it is hotter!

Leave it were it is now. If you really stop and think about it, It's gona get dark sooner in the winter and stay lighter longer in the summer. why change the clocks?

I am an Environmental Specialist with Hills. Cty. Basically, I am a "dumpster diver". I also do a lot of educational graphics design about the proper disposal of household chemical & electronics, litter, etc. My hobbies are very diverse... golf and reading, with sci-fi, forensic mysteries, and history being my favorites. My other passion is photography, mostly nature. Ever since experiencing my first hurricane in Florida, Cleo in 1964 when I was 15, when the eye went over my house, I have been fascinated with weather. I have a 99% accuracy... including predicting Charley's turn away from Tampa the night before he hit down south.
