Did anyone catch the news on Tuesday where Crist was honoring a young man for his suggestion that restaurants give leftovers to the homeless instead of throwing the food in the garbage.  I was on the phone with a friend and nearly choked when I saw the "blurb".  Apparently a lot of people at work got the same impression that I did...

He was dressed in a white suit... looked like pics of the old plantation owners!  The fact that he had a nice dark tan (natural sun? Tan in a Can? Tanning bed?)  made it even funnier... or more ironic!

Leave the song alone... after all, it was written as a tribute... respect for the slaves, not againsts them.

I didn't see it, but I think it's a good thing. Blessed are the children!

There is much wasted food out there that is totally edible. It should be used to fill up someones belly instead of filling up a landfill.

As for Charlie's attire, well..... A White Suit & A Tan look so good ;)

Abnadoning the State Song is yet another case of "burning the books" for all the wrong reasons. It is rather like prohibiting the novel "The Grapes of Wrath" because it might be offensive to the Oakies during the "Dust Bowl" era. Once started, where does it ever end?

As long as there is a $ to be made in the name of "Civil Rights" by the likes of J. Jackson and A. Sharpton, these issues will never end. They will always find fault with something whether it's a song or a flag or whatever. I'm "offended" by people like them.

I was glad to hear that too, I wish grocery stores could give their left over baked goods to charity as well.

That suit is actually called a Searsucker Suit. It is a type of fabric that was very popular in the south many years ago because it does not contain wool like most mens suits. It is usually blue and white striped and the fabric has a slight puckering to it. All he needed was a straw hat and he would have been all the rage.

michelle... thanks for Searsucker... I couldn't think of that no matter how hard I tried.

The news story was good... except for the suit... and the kid needing a hair cut... both from the past! As they say... "Out of the mouths of babes."... We need to listen to our children more... then they might not turn out to be like those girls in Lakeland.

We can not forget our past or change it... good or bad (I'm covering everyone's posts). The Dust Bowl did happen... depicting the people as "dumb" wa telling the truth. They weren't really dumb... they were very smart, for what they needed to be smart in, but education was secondary over surviving.

If people do not want their children to be exposed to certain things, that's their choice, althought stupid at time. When my daughter was about 5 a book came out called "Where did I come from". I bought it for my daughter. The old Tampa Library pulled it off the shelfs. It was a good book to explain to children about the facts of life. I still have the book and might give it to my daughter for her 2 boys.

I am an Environmental Specialist with Hills. Cty. Basically, I am a "dumpster diver". I also do a lot of educational graphics design about the proper disposal of household chemical & electronics, litter, etc. My hobbies are very diverse... golf and reading, with sci-fi, forensic mysteries, and history being my favorites. My other passion is photography, mostly nature. Ever since experiencing my first hurricane in Florida, Cleo in 1964 when I was 15, when the eye went over my house, I have been fascinated with weather. I have a 99% accuracy... including predicting Charley's turn away from Tampa the night before he hit down south.
