I have a question, why the hell does it take so long for the police to ask for the publics help in some cases, especially missing person and robberies, and now we have a case of some pervert fondling boys at a local Wal-Mart from July.I know that they have to make sure it's just not a case of a runaway, but when it's weeks and in some cases months is ridiculous especially in cases where the person is disabled or needs medicine, not to mention violent crimes like robberies and in the afore mentioned case of a sexual predator.

I understand your frustration. It does seem like they should and could get the info out a lot faster to the public. I think there is a lot more involved than you and I could imagine, interviews, getting witnesses to cooperate, etc. CSI and other shows like it has spoiled us into thinking that you can get that info out in a matter of hours and such and I think that is just unreasonable. They have to be for sure who they are looking for before getting the word out. In Kelsey Smith's case they did a GREAT job of getting that murder's face out on tv in a rapid amount of time and look at the results.

Purdygirl you are right with everything you pointed out, and there is much more. When the police ask for the publics’ help they have to be ready to receive it. Such a request can stimulate a number of tips and if the police don’t have the personnel in place to receive those tips and follow them up, they can quickly become over whelmed. This is particularly true of smaller police agencies. Most police department in the metropolitan area provide the media with a daily summery of the crimes reported over a 24-hour period. How the media reports on those crimes and what follow they do is entirely up to them. The police have to be careful in how they use the media and asking for public in assisting to identify and/or locate a criminal suspect. I was involved in a serial child rapist case many years ago where the medias assistance was sought. The media overreacted one morning when another little girl was abducted from the street and gave out the wrong description leading to an innocent man being dragged from his car by citizens and being severely beaten.

I want to chime in here and say that as for the children aspect of this post, where are the childrens parents? Why are they not with their parents? Were they allowed to run off to the video games to be entertained? Did they run off the restroom alone? I'm sorry people, but let's face it, todays world is full of sick people, and even at my childrens ages (15 and 12) I do not allow them to run off anywhere alone. Call me overprotective, but if I didn't want to be bothered by my kids at the store, I would leave them at home or with a sitter. The electronics dept. is not a daycare center. No, I don't go into the mens restroom with my son, however, when he was younger, he either went with his father, or up until a certain age, he went into the womens. In my opinion, you can't be too safe. So, a childs safety is the parents obligation. I pity the child/children when it comes to their safety. If the parent isn't doing their job, why the hell did they have children?

Jordan,I understand what you are saying but, there have been two many cases the Wal-Mart case for example where it took over two months for the police to ask for help is ridiculous. This pervert has had that much more time to go around and do this to other kids maybe even his own or those of whomever he is living with.

purdygirl you would not be paying for him to be on the streets -if he's convicted of the crime he commited then he should be put to death he put her to death ,and yes it is our call collectivly if we would stand up against thelaw makers that we elect and tell then that is what we want, that way it is a one time charge, not a lifetime of payments-when you buy something you want the payments to go away -not continue

Over the hill and going up the next one,and after reading many of the politically motivated blogs here I just want to say,an airplane can't fly with just one wing whether it be right wing or a left wing it will just fly in circles like a dog chasing its tail.
