ELECTION 2008
Obama finally leaves controversial church
After defending, denouncing controversial sermons, 'deeply disappointed' candidate departs

The Barack Obama campaign announced today the Democrat presidential candidate has resigned his 20-year membership in his controversial Chicago church.

The decision follows nearly two months of the campaign being battered by showings of videotaped sermons from the former head pastor, Jeremiah Wright, that injected themes of anti-Americanism and racism into the campaign, as well as a controversial sermon preached last Sunday by a visiting Catholic priest that attacked Hillary Clinton.

WND broke the story of Chicago Catholic priest Michael Pfleger's sermon Sunday at Obama's Trinity United Church of Christ, in which he implied Clinton was a white supremacist who believed she would win the nomination because of "white entitlement."

Pfleger, during his sermon, mocked Hillary Clinton for crying prior to the New Hampshire primary, implying to congregants the reason for her tears was that she was a white supremacist who believed she would win the nomination because of "white entitlement."

Pfleger told the Trinity congregation, "We must be honest enough to expose white entitlement and supremacy wherever it raises its head."

He continued: "Reverand Moss, when Hillary was crying, and people said that was put on, I really don't believe it was put on. I really believe that she just always thought, 'This is mine. I'm Bill's wife. I'm white. And this is mine. I just got to get up and step into the plate.'

"And then out of nowhere came, hey, I'm Barack Obama. And she said, 'Oh damn, where did you come from? I'm white. I'm entitled. There's a black man stealing my show.'"

Pfleger then mimicked Clinton crying as the audience erupted into applause and gave Pfleger's remarks a standing ovation. Clinton has become emotional during several interviews this year, and some media commentators have questioned her sincerity.

In his only public appearance yesterday, Obama did not mention Pfleger during a speech in Great Falls, Mont. A statement from his campaign Thursday said Obama was "deeply disappointed" by the priest's "divisive, backward-looking rhetoric."

Thursday, the Obama campaign removed from its official website a testimonial by Pfleger, a long-time close associate and spiritual adviser to the Democrat candidate

Obama campaign communications director Robert Gibbs said Obama had submitted his letter of resignation to the church in advance of meeting with reporters.

At a Saturday afternoon news conference, Obama told reporters he and his wife, Michele, had not made the decision to leave Trinity Church lightly because of their long history at the church. After discussion, prayer and consultation with friends and family at the church, the decision was made with "some sadness," he said.

As candidate for president, Obama said, he realized he was going to have to answer every comment made from the pulpit by the current pastor, Rev. Otis Moss, or visiting pastors.

Further, the campaign was adversely affecting the church. Obama said reporters had harassed members at their homes and workplaces, even using the church bulletin to contact sick members for comments.

When asked by a reporter how he would avoid the problem when he joined another church, Obama said he had not answered the question for himself yet.

He noted that he does not expect to always agree with the pastor but that if he heard statements from the pulpit against homosexuality, he would strongly disagree.

Pfleger, an early supporter of Obama who leads a mostly black Chicago parish, has hosted Farrakhan a number of times, drawing the ire of the Catholic Church. The June/July 2007 issue of Wright's Trumpet magazine describes Pfleger as "Afrocentric to the core."

Obama identified Pfleger in a 2004 interview with the Chicago Sun-Times as a key source of spiritual guidance. The Sun-Times piece, which was among the first in which Obama outlined his faith, includes quotes from Pfleger praising Obama.

"Faith is key to his life, no question about it," Pfleger told the Sun-Times. "It is central to who he is, and not just in his work in the political field, but as a man, as a black man, as a husband, as a father. ... I don't think he could easily divorce his faith from who he is."

There isn't any mass consipracy here. I will tell you I just took the front of the story I found on AOL. I didn't even read the rest of the story. But I wouldn't trust WND if they said the sky is blue.

I have to agree with Rita. A few months ago I would have said no way would Barack Obonehead have a chance. All the racial trash, alleged muslim ties, Preachers from the twilight zone and so on. Now though I'm really beginning to wonder. Whether the shape America is in is directly due to Bush's incompetence or not, he is America's scapegoat. So as it stands he has so badly disillusioned people's views of the Republican party, Obama could smooth talk himself into the White House. Much of the American people are seeming to overlook the facts just because they blindly want change. Facts like Obama has not even spoken the General Petreous (can't spell his name) in Iraq in over two year but is ready to sit down with the leader of Iran, and so many other signs that are red flags or should be, he could actually become Pres. I fear for this country if that youngster makes it in.

Jacko O'sama is bad news, his wife Cretin O'sama is bad news, and both of their religious beliefs they've devoured for the past 20+ years through NON Rev Wright and the Holy Rock and Roll Church of Anti-White Establishment is about to come crashing into our homes like a scud missile, whether we like it or not. We watch him spew words from his mouth, and we immediately conjure up visions of Sadass Hussein while inpowered in IRAQ, We don't even have to turn the volume on, for it's like venom that is coming from his lips right to us, directly inline towards the Bible.

Beware folks, he cannot be elected.

Mainstream Media doesn't add the opinions in the story like your Republican Rag site. Now that fact that WND talks the trash you want to hear well what can I say, except it's yellow journalism.

Tall hi hope all is well. I'm sure I don't read the same papers colt does, but I sure agree with him 100% on this and alot of other subject's,but there are times I disagree too.I feel he's well informed and very smart on alot of things. I am not well educated but I still know that someone like obama is a danger if elected as president. I also fear that if elected someone will do something crazy. I don't believe it will be racially motivated but because of his tie's to muslim extreamist, but people of course will feel it's black/white and there will be big problem's right here. We should all hope and pray he does'nt make it.

All of these issues are what the democrats stand for Diveristy!

We read this in WND and we seem to believe that it tilts far to the right amongst the two candidates on the Democratic side. Their far sided implications (and it was implications only) that Hillary is a white supremist destined to win the nomination rather than Jacko O'Sama because she was entitled to it because of her skin color is bunk, and can be de-bunked 100%. She believes that she's entitled to it more because hubby Bill was an ex-Prez and she's riding the phantom coat tails of him.
Sadly, Rita is right. With Jacko only seated for a 142 days as Senator, his nomination and "if" elected, means that we may have one or two attempts at his life not because of his Muslim upbringing, but more because of the strong gatherings of White Supremist such as the Aryian Nations, KKK, and others that will not stand for his election to Prez.
His pal, his confidant, his minister, his life in the Chicago RACE and BAIT Holy Church of Venomous Spew is the other reason. Christianity is a strong power to buck here in this United States, and when you have Rev. Bigot invite in a Catholic Priest who demeans, shouts evil wordings, and mocks the religion he is to support, all hope is lost.
God grant us the prayers that if O'Sama is elected, it never happens. No one wants that.

What the hell is he disappointed about? If he wants to stay at that ridiculous church then he should stay. Otherwise , he is leaving for political reasons only. Something he says he does not do. To say ,he doesn't want to make the church a media circus is laughable. Rev. Wright is the one that went to the press club, the epitome of the media, and called his friend (Obama) out and gladly answered questions for the media. The priest knowing put on a BET comedy hour to appease his audience and knew it was being taped to be shown to any one later. The media did not sat that up ,obama's new minister and the emmineem(white rapper) priest did!!! How twisted is Obama's defense in saying it's the media's fault when his own minister embraced the media and acted like a complete clown for them and his own church invited his friend to also behave like a clown and make sexist remarks. I am sooo tired of Obma's ...ummm... ahhhh... urrrhh....ummmm.. lame responses when he tries to excuse these constant revelations of people he have associated himself with over a long period of time. Face it folks, Obama comes from a far ,far left wing of the democratic party and has done a superb job "WITH THE HELP OF THE A LIBERAL MEDIA" in keeping it disguised.

drerunner I couldn't agree more. He says that he will stand up and fight for the middle class, but won't even fight for himself. He goes to a church for twenty years was saying how great it is and how Rev. Wright is a great mentor now he's saying that the Rev is wrong and he is quitting the church. I didn't know you had to write a formal letter to stop going to a church? Obama is pure politician I don't understand how people can support a person who does that. After twenty years of hearing that kind of talk now it offends him! You gotta be kidding

13six, Colt, drerunner, it's the beginning of a nightmare that you cannot wake up from. He will be the winner of the Democratic National Convention and will go against John McCain, and during that nightmare period of him being elected Prez, he is going to flounder, lie, ahum and ahem his way through sitting down with the leader of our enemies, will make happy happy talk with every terrorist that feels they want to take big brother down, and when it comes time to stand up and protect this country, we're going to find out that the nightmare is now beginning to make us sweat blood. He's truly the backstabbing, lying, idiot of a man who was caught by the media defending the venomous views of a person who's he's kept in contact to, but in the midst of a race, he's going to act whatever role he needs to distance himself until he's elected. We guarantee that when he does get elected and he's up in front of American taking the vows for Presidency, Rev. Wright will be next to his wife Cretin, Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, Rev. Pflueger, Shah ACHMAD BIN LADEN, Mohammed Bin Osama Bin Nutcase, and possibly even Kwame.

If you look at what Nostradamus said "He will come from the Middle east and wearing a Blue Turbin" What if he meant"He will come from the Midwest and belong to the Blue Party" if that is the case we could see him get elected and then start performing Miracles and People will believe in him,And He will lead them into the Bowels of Hell, So can we really stop Him. He's a undercover Muslim and we all know that not all Muslims are terrorists, yet All Terrorists are Muslim by Faith. also Nostradamus also said the New World would be Invaded by the Billion Man Army which is the Muslims with a Billion members, so how do you think it will play out. could it be that time, allot of things are happening that aren't normal now a days.

Is it fate or is it an omen. The Mayan Calendar says the world will in in 2012 and that is the end of the next presidential term? Funny, but when it comes to turbins, it was only Barrack that wore one in a picture wasn't it. Funny, I don't seem to remember what color it was though!!!!
