Muslim Immigrants Sue for Faster Processing of Citizenship Applications

A group of Muslim immigrants seeking U.S. citizenship sued federal officials on Friday, claiming they've been left in limbo for months or years because of slow background checks.

 

The class-action lawsuit was filed on behalf of 33 plaintiffs who have settled in Missouri from Afghanistan, Bosnia, Egypt, Pakistan, Somalia and other countries. It said some have had to wait more than four years to be cleared by the FBI, violating time limits.

By law, a decision on processing must be made within 120 days of the immigrant's interview, the last step in becoming a citizen, attorney Jim Hacking said.

The lawsuit seeks to have a federal judge enforce the time limits on name checks for those being naturalized.

The delays prevent the citizen candidates from voting and traveling abroad for fear they will be harassed upon return by customs officials, said Kamal Yassin, who heads the St. Louis chapter of the Council on American-Islamic Relations.

The FBI does name, fingerprint and background checks for every applicant for naturalization. The agency said similar names can result in false hits that take time to resolve.

U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Service said it no longer schedules interviews with immigrants until they're cleared by the FBI.

The lawsuit names Attorney General Michael Mukasey, Homeland Security Secretary Michael Chertoff, FBI Director Robert Mueller and Jonathan Scharfen, acting director of U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, among others.

Department of Justice spokesman Charles Miller said the agency would review the complaint and determine how to respond in court.

Spokesman Paul Bresson said the FBI gets 4 million name check requests a year, half of which come from the naturalization agency, USCIS. He said about 85 percent of cases are completed in 60 days.

"It boils down to volume versus resource," he said. "We have not had enough resources to address it."

The FBI increased fees to allow the agency to hire more record-checkers. A new central records complex under construction also should help, he said.

"Before 9-11, we were not required to do background checks on every single applicant," said Marilu Cabrera, spokeswoman for the U.S. Citizenship and Immigration Services, explaining that only certain types of applications were checked before 9-11.

"We have piled a lot of work on the FBI, but we're not going to naturalize someone without knowing they have cleared the background checks."

Why don't we just erect statues of Sadass Hussein and the Ayatollah KLAP-Maniac up all over Detroit, New York, Minneapolis, Chicago, San Franciso...hell, every city.

Let's put up billboards of Iran's President:

Let's put up billboards of Iraq's President:
Kurdish leader Jalal Talabani

Let's take down the Mt. Rushmore mountains and blow out a stone mountain of Kdahfi or Cuba's Fidel Castro. Or take down Stone Mountain and put up a monument to Che Guevara, El Che

For God's sake, let's take Washington's picture off the 5 dollar bill and put on Vicente Fox's from Mexico. Well, put him on the 1, 5, 10, 20, 50 and 100 dollar bills as it won't be long before this country belongs to Mexico. And we'll take down the Liberty Bell and replace it with the Taco Bell.

Then the US can bring down Lady Liberty and put up a statue of Eva Peron. We don't have to worry about buying anything from China, as China and Japan will own this country when they're done killing all the sharks and using just the fins for some soup for a stupid, rich ass idiot who believes it's going to make his ED go away for a week.

Soon Hawaii will become part of Burma, because they don't have anything left to offer tourists but dead rotting bodies in the water, and Hawaii hasn't had a Harbor Wave, A TSUNAMI in a thousand years. We can remove most of the corn and wheat grown here and replace it with poppies so they Afghanistans can make a good living and not worry about selling their daughters to a land baron who they owe money too.

the drug cartel out of Bolivia and Ecudor or Brazil come up and replace the President with a Drug Baron who sets the rules you live by, or if you fight it, you die by, and so does your family. Hell, O'Sama has the private telephone and cell number for the Pres of Iran, so they can run down to Ruth's Chris and discuss either who they can raid that day (one day Africa, the next maybe France, and finally Australia because they've got stupid looking wildlife).

McCain will resuit back up, fly his Jet over Detroit, get shot down and become a prisoner of war again, but this time, he can only watch HDTV (analog goes away on Feb 09), and use his cell phone when the weather's good. He'll be given time out of solitary confinement to attend George Bush's daughter 3 marriage, and Jenna's release from the Dallas Golf Club because of her 29th conviction on drug (Well, Laura calls it Sweetie Candy).

The Kennedy's will find out that there is 18 illigimate children who all look like Ted that have come forward to fight for the DEMO-CRAP-IC nomination, but since it was learned that they are all black, they are being sequestered to pay REPARATION to themselves and to spend 9 months cleaning up the Kennedy compound, keeping their British cars washed and waxed, and to speak highly of Massachuesetts whenever on camera. Yes, we've lost this country.

We're losing more and more of it to the Muslims who have the outright gall and TESTICLES the size of Montana who believe that it's unfair for them to blow the hell out of our buildings, kill people all over the world with their IED's and their Suicide Bombers, take over our educations schools by refusing our children the rights to say the Pledge of Allegiance with the word God, but can advertise in all our news publications on the love of ALLAH. ALLAH sounds like someone calling a lost puppy named Alley....ALLAH, ALLAH....c'mon.

We for one are tired of being politically correct in everything we say and do. If we have to press 1 for Spanish, it had better be in a Taco John's as we order dinner, because if you think that we're pressing 1 in our country that was founded on English, you might as well go suck a lemon. If you think that we're going to have any contractors come into our home that cannot speak English or wear a checkered towel on your head and make a lot of "lalalalalalalalalaala" sounds, you might as well go piss up a rope.
