Each day as the war goes on the media loves to keep count on the dead soldiers for days as the count got closer to the 4000 the media kept a count almost looking forward to announce that 4000 soldiers have now died in a war that was needed yet nobody wanted..yet this same media fails to say without those 4000  brave Young men and women countless of Iraqi men and women would be dead those 4000 haven't died in vane ..we all owe our brave fighting men and women who serve this country a great deal of thanks for without them we wouldn't exist as a nation..to see politicians and the media use them as pawns is a disgrace to this nation and the mothers and fathers of those soldiers and of all those who served  an died so those same people who use them can do so..and if that opinion bothers you ..go to hell

crafty,

did you see the ANTI-WAR FOX11 story last night? Another example of FOX11 obsessive coverage. Nothing Fair and Balanced about it at all. And the same culprits, as usual. Christine Devine, Gigi Graciette, and I'll assume Jay Kumar wet his pants over this one. They even had an interview with a woman named Vicki Castro, the west coast version of Cindy Sheehan? FOX11 should have taped her with the ANSWERLA.ORG banners flying behind her during the rallies, but of course, they INTENTIONALLY omitted those clips on file. The thing is to me, NOT ONE image of anybody who might think differently from Ms. Castro or the FOX11 spokesholes. Another example why FOX11 spokesholes cannot be taken seriously as HONEST BROKERS OF TRUTHFUL INFORMATION to the public. Although J. Schwada has gone out on a limb to expose what we've known for at least 20 years now, that the SANCTUARY CITY policies allow Americans to be unecessarily KILLED on American soil by Illegal Aliens. We'll see if he's around much longer.

Craftyguy -

You claim to support the troops, but only as long as they keep dying for the highly flawed reasoning that you still support. Do you have children or family members in this War? I doubt it.

If this War is so worth fighting, why aren't we having a draft? Because you and I both know that if middle class kids from suburbs like OC were forced to fight in this war, it would be over tomorrow. As long as the group of people suffering the consequences don't have much in say of elections, the war keeps going.

Why do only 6% of Americans that have family in the military carry the burden so overwhelmingly?

You do not believe in patriotism Craftyguy. You believe in nationalism and militarism. True patriots love their country, and want to see it serve as fair, prosperous, democratic, and a moral beacon for the world.

"...Sad to say, the marriage of militarism and patriotism makes it so much easier for US presidents to gain quick -- but not necessarily durable -- popularity, and so much easier for them to lead the nation into wars of aggression that serve no interests other than their own. Sooner or later, one hopes, Americans will rediscover -- as they have in the past -- that they cannot live on flag-waving alone. They will begin to drift off into reality. They will confront the economic irrationalities and global aggrandizement of a system that provides them with endless militaristic circuses while denying them the bread of prosperity and their right as democratic citizens to live in peace with justice."

“Of course people don’t want war. Why should a poor slob on a farm want to risk his life in a war when the best thing he can get out of it is to come back to his farm in one piece?

Naturally the common people don't want war neither in Russia, nor in England, nor for that matter in Germany. That is understood. But, after all, it is the leaders of the
country who determine the policy and it is always a simple matter to drag the people along, whether it is a democracy, or a fascist
dictatorship, or a parliament, or a communist dictatorship. Voice or no voice, the people can always be brought to the bidding of the leaders. That is easy. All you have to do is tell them they are being attacked,
and denounce the peacemakers for lack of patriotism and exposing the country to danger. It works the same in any country."

first of all my oldest son is in the navy and was on one of the first ships the day the war broke out he has since reenlisted and is going back maybe and i for one couldn't be more proud of him unlike liberal cowards such as yourself he is doing what he is asked by his country as are all the brave men and women in this war and they do so with pride guts and honor something you know nothing about as you sit and write negative things about them and the only reason you can do it is because those brave men and women sacrificed for you the ones who benefit the most ..you hide behind them and their sacrifices ..you sir are a coward..many of the men women and children in Iraq are alive and free today because of our military a horrible dictator is dead ..no I'm confusing nationalism with patriotism ..you don't have either one..

Bring the troops home now!!! Iraq faces civil war and sectarian partition.Bush and Cheney are war criminals. It's call war profiteering.A stable democracy in Iraq don't make me laugh. The question is are the Iraqis better off with Saddam Hussein in power.Or with the puppet government in power? The violence is displacing families and creating segregated ghettos.Sunnis & Shities are fighting over what??? The oil.Bush and Cheney will control the oil.

if we pull our troops out now we would be sentencing the Iraqi people to death not withstanding the Iranian influence it would only be matter of time before we were back anyway and this time in a bigger quagmire then we are right now so why don't we win this thing ..instead of looking like cowards in the face of our enemies like both Clinton and Obama want ..i agree with everyone who is against this war ..but we are in it we are there lets finish it..by pulling out we are only prolonging the inevitable..so while we are there how about some support the the ones fighting instead of aiding the enemy by letting them know we don't want to be there ..

craftyguy I would like to shake your Sons hand and all the hands of these young men and women they are all awesome in there courage to help this situation.
This is a very confusing time,I feel but I am for the troops and there family's 1st and foremost. I have so many family who served in so many wars.My Husbands father is retired navy. I AM SO PROUD TO SAY THAT and I would shout it from the roof tops if I could.
I am confused too in this war, but I don't care. I stand with the troops and I will do what ever they want. For they are the men and women we have to Thank for our freedom today! AMERICA is there home too and when they are ready to come back then I am. So let the troops finish there job! If this is what they feel is right. I am not there in Iraq. I am here safe because they make it that way.
It is very hard to believe what the press says because none of us can really see what is going on in Iraq.

hello craftyguy. I love and respect anyone who knows what they feel and believe.
Brenda bff! That is what we should always do and need too. SUPPORT OUR TROOPS. Some do so much and then keep it quiet some do nothing and can't SHUT UP!
Jay Kumar were you around when there was a Draft? Ever been drafted? Ever support THE TROOPS in anyway? I was sicjk to see that they were just waiting to be the first to announce the death of 4000 Soldiers. Sick people huh?

craftyguy - Congratulations for having a son in the military. Unlike many of these sunny pro-war, you and your family are making tremendous sacrifices. I imagine you must have been worried sick sending your baby into War. Truly, my heart goes out to your family.

However, supporting the troops who have no say in whether we go to War or not, and supporting the policy set by the civilian government are two COMPLETELY different things. The fact that both these concepts are fused together is nothing more than a clever trick. Don't you see that?

Why do you think Bush, Cheney, Rumsfeld, Wolfowitz, Perle, Feith, etc. all did their best to get out of War when it was their time to serve? Because they understand it's a brutal venture... and felt it was a burden best left to other people's kids to deal with - thus treating the troops like toy soldiers for wealthy people. Even now people like Vice President Cheney - who profit from the War while keeping up political support for it - don't have kids fighting in war, but do have family working as lobbyists for the companies that have the most to gain from keeping the war going.

Thankfully you agree with those of in the vast majority opposed to this War. But you say we should "finish it."

How do you define "finish" it? The Administration can't even define that.

Jay_Kumar read my blog
Mar 25, 2008 | 4:13 PM

And who do you exactly consider the "enemy?" Is it the large Sunni militias we're paying money not fire at our troops, or the brutal Shiite Sadr who just extended a cease fire, or the vast pool of civilians that make up the insurgency?

And this argument that pulling the troops out now would be a death sentence for the Iraqis. How much worse can it get for the Iraqis we profess to care so much about? Iraq as a nation doesn't really exist anymore. The reason things have calmed down is that the country has already experienced a massive defacto Civil War - with some studies having the Iraqi death toll as high a 1 million... with 2 million refugees who have already fled the country.

The Administration has no plans for how to run this War, they just want to pass it on to the next President - the reason being that if we pull out, it will be a monumental political disaster for the GOP in the Fall, more so than it already is. Isn't that glaringly obvious to everyone at this point?

"...A roadside bomb killed 4 US troops, bringing the total dead in Iraq on the American side to 4,000. The thing I most mind about the deaths of those brave warriors is that our government has not been honest about why they died. We don't know the answer to that question. We've been lied to.

The Bush administration still has not told us why they died. It was not to protect the US from "weapons of mass destruction" (see below; that was a fabricated cover story). It was not to spread democracy. It may have been to nail down a major petroleum-producing country for US geostrategic goals (ensuring its resources were available to the US and could be denied if necessary to growing rivals such as China). If so, one has to ask whether the objectives (which were hidden from the American people) were the top priority for the US, or only for the petroleum industry; whether those objectives have been achieved; and whether there was another way to attain them. No such debate has ever been held. Was it in part to ensure Israeli security, as Mearsheimer and Walt argue (and Craig Unger implicitly argues, below)? If so, that should be stated, it should be debated. Even the former head of Shin Bet did not agree that it increased Israel's security. It is not right to ask men and women under arms to die for their country without telling them exactly how they are benefiting their country. For all we know, they have died so that Bush and Cheney could throw goodies to their "base," so that Halliburton could escape bankruptcy and Hunt Oil could get new development contracts.

"...The Green Zone was subjected to repeated mortar and rocket attacks on Sunday, which wounded 1 American and 4 others inside, and killed at least a dozen on its edges (because those firing them were bad shots). The Green Zone is where the US Embassy and major Iraqi government buildings are. It had been a little safer recently, or at least the Pentagon was peddling that line to CNN during last week's commemoration of the 5th anniversary of the war (see the CNN piece below). It is a measure of how the war objectives keep being defined down, that for the Green Zone to be relatively safe was trumpeted as an accomplishment. The "green zone" was always supposed to be safe, since it was heavily guarded and surrounded by blast walls. I take it that the US ceasefire with the Mahdi Army has actually broken down, in part because the US army and its Iraqi allies keep arresting commanders of the Mahdi Army. The Bush administration attitude has been, that's not a truce, that's an opportunity to make a bust." - Dr. Juan Cole
