There is no doubt that the nomination of Barack Obama for President is a great story about how far this country has come in terms of dealing with its racist past. Whether you like Obama or not, it's a wonderful sign that he's in position to become the president of this country considering it's sordid past.

But not everyone is probably happy about, namely Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton.

Consider how Jesse and Al are always playing the race card when talking about how poorly black people are faring in our country today. Of course they're premise that all that is wrong with the black community (in their eyes) is due to the white man and the obstacles he as put in place, but still, having a black person one big step away from being President of this country has to hurt their cause. And this, is a good thing.

Think about this:
For the last eight years we've had black Secretaries of State.
We have a Supreme Court Justice who is black, and we've had a black man be the Chief Justice of the Supreme Court.
Home ownership among blacks is up.
We have plenty of CEO's of huge companies who are black men.

So it makes you wonder where Jesse and Al now stand? I guess they could harp on how the court systems are unfair to blacks and that there are more blacks in jail than whites. But the fact that most people manage to stay out of jail because they have high-priced attorneys is the key here, not the color of your skin (it worked for O.J., and last time I looked, he was black).

What's sad is that Jesse and Al avoid the main problem that affects the black community, the fact that many fathers abandon their families when their children are young. That is the bigger problem here, since that affects the guidance a child receives growing up (and leads to gang activity) and it also affects the financial situation (preventing children from attending college).

But there's nobody to blame but yourself in those cases, and that doesn't make Jesse and Al much money, so it's not good for their business to bring that up. Good thing Bill Cosby is around to do that.

From Birmingham to Cleveland and Baltimore, at churches and colleges, Cosby has been telling thousands of black Americans that racism in America is omnipresent but that it can’t be an excuse to stop striving. As Cosby sees it, the antidote to racism is not rallies, protests, or pleas, but strong families and communities. Instead of focusing on some abstract notion of equality, he argues, blacks need to cleanse their culture, embrace personal responsibility, and reclaim the traditions that fortified them in the past. Driving Cosby’s tough talk about values and responsibility is a vision starkly different from Martin Luther King’s gauzy, all-inclusive dream: it’s an America of competing powers, and a black America that is no longer content to be the weakest of the lot.

I agree with everything you wrote. Some parents don't know how important their job is, or worse, don't care. And it's so easy for them to blame society for their own failures and mistakes.
Not only do I like Bill Cosby, I admire him for his brutal honesty.

Hey Hey Hey . . . it's faaatt Albert, Now I'm gonna sing a son for yooou, and Bill's gonna tell you a thing or two. Bill Cosby is describing grace. It's powerful. I think Bill further agrees with you statueman. Action of power is evidence of it's existence. A house divided will eventually fall. Put it together.

I wish The Bernie Mac Show was still being produced. Bernie drove some good points for the African American community, even though it could be a bit wacky at times. Bill Cosby is also a great example. He has the guts to tell the people in the community to quit whining and do something positive about things. As for the lazy folks in the communities, there is a term I've heard for them: Mac Daddies! That term describes those loser dead beat men who get a woman pregnant, then leave as fast as they can. I say track those clowns down and give them a public caning!

You are right ddain. I think over at Jackson HQ and Sharpton LLC there must be some real head scratching going on...business must be down.

I wish they'd find something real to do. To my knowledge, those two don't even cooperate well with each other...I guess each has an agenda and if they actually SOLVED anything, they'd both be out of work.

ddain, TruthsguyinLa and Moogie,
BillORight, dasvics and Mystere,

To be sure the one thing we're not looking at here is who the news media calls when something like he Philly Cops beating 3 black suspects takes place. If you go back and read the blogs on myfoxphilly there were a number of posters who assumed the guilt of the three young men who were beaten and were mad at fox philly for broadcasting the beating.

Do you think these things go unnoticed by Cosby? Do you think that former Enron Executives at club fed were cheering on those cops? Do you think child molesters in protective custody prison were happy that those cops hadn't arrested them? Do you think that Al Sharpton was wrong to bring peaceful protests in an area where it would only take one fed up intelligent African American to do the unthinkable... and don't think it didn't cross the minds of many black college bound future business and government leaders.

It's not the street thugs you need to be afraid of... it's the psyche of the silent majority of law abiding black people who may fall victim to police abuse because of who they look like. And have no doubt it does happen... but keep reading before you respond.

Many college educated law abiding tax paying black people are not too happy with the image being presented of it being there fault that alot of African Americans are being lumped together in off broadway media criticisms such as this that try to act as if the black problem has it's roots in black America... the thinking is that black America is like Chinese America and can solve it's own problems. Does that mean that along with all the China Towns and Korea Towns and Little Italy's and Irish Pubs that Former Slavevilles will help the issue? Does that mean that the problems of black Americans have no roots in what powerful white institutions are doing today? Maybe we should look up all the countries African Americans were brought here from and ask them if they can send their ancestors belonging and identity... perhaps we will see less crime with Little Nigeria's and Little Ethiopias forming in the inner cities throught out the US?

My point here is that the solution to this problem is staring this country in the face. But why do you think that when Bill Cosby speaks to African Americans around the country he doesn't let news media in? (Bill... I'll call you and tell you what he says in that video) There is however a solution...

I invite all of you "concerned" to discuss solutions to the problems of black Americans who are still enslaved in their minds and hearts in this country. It should be up by noon today.

As far as Al and Jesse are concerned... blame it on your news media. God forbid they would call on more conservative black voices to address hot bed issues. But for all their fault please know that the last thing Al or Jesse want to see in this country are unthinkable racial explosions like the LA Riots and from my perspective when those two go on local medias and are the voice of inner city rage then lives get saved. Maybe you don't see it that way... but if not Al and Jesse then whose going to do it? You? No... trust me when I say that folks like Jesse and Al are saving lives by being the vent for anger since a clear majority of African Americans are law abiding and do not blame every Euro/Angle American for the actions of the remaining racist few.

To be sure... this blog at least shows that you care enough about the issue to want to discuss it.

Oh fantastic. No need to worry everyone, if Al or Jesse are too busy fighting non-exciting racism, statueman's there to help out!

Sorry dude, but once again: blaming society for our own failures and mistakes, is lame. We need to take responsibility for our own actions and the consequences of those actions.
PARENTING is serious business. If kids are growing up without the proper parental guidance and turn to gangs or drugs or any other self destructive path, I suppose its our fault as a whole, not that child's parents right?

What BS.

It just so happens that certain races are notorious for certain behaviors. ouch, I know, sounds harsh but it happens to be true.

Yup... and one certain race is responsible for having solutions to problems in their power but doing nothing.

Is what people do not do as criminal as what they do?

I've written the Soggy Bottom Solution in response. Bury your head in the sand if you want. But the writting on the wall will be written by someone and those in denial will be forced to read it.

I don't understand the story.

Obama IS Jesse and Al X 1000.

He just hasn't let you know yet, but his record does all the talking. Didn't the racist church and the fact that he wants to bring back Affirmative Action give you a clue?

"Obama IS Jesse and Al X 1000."

Thank God... maybe now we can do a clean sweep in this country and eradicate it of the false assumption of who should be in charge. Snoop Dog for Vice... oh... sorry... he already is...

fuh shizzle...
