Water Storage During Hurricane

I bought a 5gallon plastic container to hold water during a hurricane from home depot.  My question is, Does the water go bad after a certain time period and do you add any bleach or chlorine to keep it from getting overrun with bacteria?  The container does have a screw on lid but it is not airtight. Just wanting to know so I do not make me and my family ill from this water container.  Thankyou, Sandy

I am a Florida native and love to watch your weather broadcast. I have been wattching channel 13 weather since Ernie Lee was the meteorologist. I watch every night and morning and when there's a storm I can depend that your crew will give me the most up to date weather issues. No other weather channel beats your broadcast not even the weather channel. So as you can see I am a big fan.
