Out west there is a wind farm with 120 of these very same wind mills. Together they make enough electricity to power 183,000 homes.

Polarbear - "I could see a nice line of those windmills along lake erie."

If they would give be FREE electricity, I would let them put one of these on MY property.

You can buy kits for windmills. In fact, when they are spinning on a windy day, you could very well be generating more power than your house is using, and your electric meter will spin backwards, in effect crediting your electric bill. The kits cost about as much as a small car, but it could pay off if you plan on staying put for a while.
I'm all for green power. I nearly accepted a recent job offer from a company in Colorado who is currently constructing natural gas wells, but will transition into solar and wind operations in the next few years. If the housing market and other aspects of the economy were in better shape, I'd be out west right now............Damn.

Change is only good if you change everything. However Gorbash, you just want to change the occupant in the White House and a few in both house and senate to get your wish...silence the conservatives.

Out in California there is a wind farm of several hundred wind mills in White Water Pass. Your number of homes supplied by only 120 wind mills is rather high.
But may I mention that these wind generators are ALREADY BUILT and a huge solar generator BUILT and IN PLACE in Dagget, Ca. with President Bush in office? So sad Obama but a Republican President HAS ALREADY DONE IT!!!

Shadowknows, I was watching a show the day before this post named dirty Jobs on cable. They were showing a maintenance crew that services these mills out west the numbers they quoted were 120 mills to maintain together they could power 183,000 homes or each mill is good for 1525 homes per mill. They are 120’ tall and manufactured in France. Maybe the ones you are familiar with are still turning wheat into flour? Technology gets much better every year there buddy.

I wrote they were 120' feet tall, 120 is the anumber of windmills they serviced on this windfarm the actual height of each windmill was 256' not 120 as I wrote above. the other figures were actual quotes from the show and I also did some googling n the topic and found I can't figure out what the hell they are talking about with all the mega watts! What the hell is a mega watt anyway and how much does it power?

Yup, it's hard because they switch back and forth. FYI, a kilowatt is 1,000 watts

A megawatt is 1,000,000 watts.
So, if each average home uses 10k watts and a windmill can generate 1M watt, then it can supply 100 homes.
Yes, these windmills are HUGE! They don't look so big from a distance but if you get near one they are gigantic!
An interesting thing. The wind blows nearly constantly across the bay near to Ted Kennedy's home compound. It's been proposed to build windmills there in the bay. Need wind remember? But, Teddy says,"Not in my bay!! I want to go sailing my boat there!!"
Now there's a REAL Democrat for you. Plus he's rich enough to keep them from being built too.
Shhh, don't tell Gorbash but Teddy is one of THOSE rich people.

Gangster, look at your electric bill. It'll tell you how many Kwatts you have used for the month.
I don't know offhand how much electricity each windmill generates. I do remember reading that they don't generate enough with respect to the cost of building one. Therefore the break even point is far in the future. The major advantage is that there is no fuel cost and it's CLEAN electricity. But also, no wind or not enough wind equals no electricity.

They can generate up to 5 mega watts each depending on weather conditions. But the constant number seems to be more around 2-3 continual based on what I’m reading doing a Google. The show I spoke of earlier did not mention the actual number from what I remember. But I did remember they mentioned cost of around $1,000,000.00 each, height 256’, Blade 60’, total amount of mills on this particular farm 120, Total average homes capable of powering was 1525 per mill or 183,000 average size homes with all 120 mills working combined. I thought they were remarkable both in size and shape in addition to amount of energy they are capable of producing to power that many average size homes for basically free with the exception of the cost to build and maintain. I would love to see these thing being built and used everywhere.
