Maybe a trip to prison would  save her life vs. kill her, I mean, at that weight she is already in her own personal prison, losing a few pounds in one of ours won't hurt her, in fact, it may help her escape her own-  either way, she needs to pay.    How is it that criminals feel they can get away with things because of medical conditions or disabilities?

EDINBURG, Texas  --  A grand jury indicted a nearly half-ton, bedridden woman Thursday in the death of her 2-year-old nephew.

Mayra Lizbeth Rosales, 27, was indicted on one count of first-degree murder and on one count of injury to a child in the death of Eliseo Gonzalez Jr. Rosales previously had been charged with capital murder.

The grand jury indicted her after a full autopsy confirmed investigators' suspicions that the child died March 18 because he had been struck. Investigators believe the toddler was struck at least twice, crushing his head.

Authorities recommended Rosales' bond be set at $150,000.

The boy's mother Jaime Rosales, was charged earlier with injury to a child because she allegedly left her son alone with his aunt. Her bond has been set at $100.000.

Prosecutors have to work out how Mayra Rosales will be detained and prosecuted because she weighs nearly 1,000 pounds. She is unable to fit through a door to leave her home. As of Thursday evening, she was not in custody.

Both Hidalgo County District Attorney Rene Guerra and Hidalgo County Sheriff Lupe Trevino promised that Rosales would somehow face the charges but they had little details about how that would happen. Trevino said holding her at the Hidalgo County Jail for her trial would be impossible because she needs extensive medical care.

"She would die," said Trevino in Thursday's online edition of The Monitor in McAllen.

Nevertheless, she will soon face arrest, he said.

Howdy, Guns. I've wondered the same thing myself.

Victim mentality?.. I think that the only thing she's a victim of is a cruel mind.

Playing on public sympathy?...After crushing an infants skull? I think not!

I don't know if she ate herself into her present shape, or, if there is a biological reason for her predicament. Either way....If you're gonna do the crime.....

I have zero tolerance when kids are involved. She should be put to death.

I agree Electrons, anyone who harms a child should be put to death. If anyone ever harms my son, they will get an instant one and I won't sit around waiting for the law to decide what to do with them.

Just out of curiosity -- how the hell did she move 1000 pounds of herself enough to strike the child twice? It's a shame that the exertion didn't kill her. And, at 1000 pounds, I'd think she'd be confined to her bed. I bet if she had some life threatening emergency, there would be a way to get her out of the house. Put her fat behind in jail!

I was thinking about that also, oughtm. I guess It's not too difficult to con an infant. Even for her. I'm surprised that the smell didn't deter the child.

"I bet if she had some life threatening emergency, there would be a way to get her out of the house."

Good point! Up here there would be stories on the news about that...

I can see the head lines now...." Thousand pound woman placed upon a palate jack for removal from her home in medical emergency!!"

Another question -- why would a mother leave a toddler with a 1000 pound woman? Toddlers move pretty quickly!

I agree Ought... why would a mother leave a child with a bed ridden person? My 4 year old is quick as a jack rabbit and he is into things all the time, if I weren't able to get up and go after him my house would have already burned to the ground and every porcelain doll I won would be smashed. You have to keep your eyes on kids all the time and be able to get to them to stop them from doing things they shouldn't. I still have problems with my little clepto, he sits in the shopping cart and takes things off the candy shelf while I am standing in line at the grocery store. I have shamed him, made him go in and tell people he stole candy and have busted his little clepto ass a few times but he will still try to swipe something at the store. He is a little felon in waiting :) and he is a hand full and I have to keep my eyes on him- When he was 2, the age of this poor little guy, he was into everything... cabinets, plants, purses, he once poured a whole container of baby powder out in the toilet and all over the tile floor.... then my silly behind walked in and slipped down on it. There was baby powder everywhere and there he stood, covered in powder smiling like a pig in sunshine. A 2 year old, for sure, needed to be left with someone who could get around- the mom should be prosecuted to the fullest extent of the law as well.

I'm not entirely sure how a 1000 pound woman could catch a two year old, unless she was actually throwing "items" at the boy to stop him from doing what he was doing. Even under those circumstances, could she actually lift her 200 lb arm? I think the mother was the abusive culprit, and dropped the boy off at the Aunts home after the abuse.
Guns good luck with your boy, sounds like a handful...

I totally agree with your thinking. If anyone hurts my son it'll be a case of kill now, ask questions later. I look at it this way..most of the jury probably have kids too so they'll understand. I like the way you guys do justice down there. Word of mouth is Texas does not around. I wish we had the same thinking here.

Sadly, up here they are often more concerned with the criminals rights.....Until it happens to one of their own, then, the mindset seems to change.

Send em on down here Jimbo & Electrons, we have our "Taking out the Trash Tuesday's & Thursday's", it would be ok with me if we added one more day "Two for 1 Monday's", taking our count from sending just 2 criminals to a under ground condo... to 4. It would save us a little bit of money and the wait on death row would shortened tremendously, leaving empty seats for new criminals.
