L.A. Girl/L.A. World

It’s dark and hell is hot…. Coacheller’s hot hot heat left thousands panting until the sun went down and the stars came out…. L.A. Girl/L.A. World contributor Jared Milgrim, a 22-year-old photog phenom, shot this photo essay for you, dear reader…. I’ve been MIA working on investigations for Fox 11 (see “Texting While Driving”), but we wouldn’t miss bringing you Coachella’s highlights. See below, Jared’s handiwork of Prince, Roger Waters, M.I.A., Jack Johnson, Flogging Molly (yes, that Ireland’s pasty finest Dave King in direct sunlight mate) and Gogol Bordello, in that order….

Of his Coachella experience, Flogging Molly guitarist Dennis Casey says, “It was hot, sweet, and intoxicating with a touch of purple.” Purple rain, perhaps?…. And the gypsy punk band Gogol Bordello’s been touring the world non-stop since the release of its latest album, “Super Taranta!” And even more super is the fact that lead singer Eugene Hutz recently starred in Madonna’s directorial debut, "Filth and Wisdom," and joined the uber-vixen onstage at Live Earth…. L.A. promoter Steven Harlow is inviting y’all to “Wet Republic,” a poolside fete Memorial Weekend at the MGM Grand…. Calling all motorheads: Speed race it out to “Carnivora: The Dark Art of Automobiles” at the L’Imagerie Gallery in NoHo. The badass exhibit of cars gone wild is up through June 14…. Dunno about you but I can’t get enough of Scars on Broadway’s “They Say” single. It may just be Dead Kennedys redux but hell, soundz good to me (hear it for yo’self at this year’s KROQ Weenie Roast on May 17). The fact that it’s brought to you by members of System of A Down (below) splains why it’s so hardcoreilicious…. xoxo hsc

hmm to rain on anyone parade, but i never liked prince. i don't know, but i just never thought his music was that great. when i first saw him years ago on tv, i notice he was trying to make everyone believe he was bigger then life, by the way he dresses, acts, and all. so i guess if he made music that was equal to it i could believe the hype. then i heard his music, and was very dissappointed. in my mind he never lived up to the hype. i look at other similar artist like manson, poison, cradle of filth, even trent reznor, and they all had bigger then life personas, but i feel they all lived up the to it. their music was worked with the image they were giving off.

i guess gwar is another band that they spend too much time on their image and not enough time in the music studio.

i was at the house of blues for a danzig concert. well one of the opening bands was just about to wrap up their set, and the lead guitarist decides to jump out to the crowd. well i had my back turned because i was talking to the friend next to me. once i turned around the crowd tossed him to my direction. so i tried to catch him, but their was no one else in my area to help support his weight. i know i could of lifted him on my own, but he was way to slick due to his sweat, and i just lost grip. so he landed face first on the pavement (almost like a reverse powerbomb). and everyone just circled around us. of course all eyes on me and him. and i'm just like red, embarrased, and didnt know what to say or do. he was fine, just a bit red himself. not sure out of anger or cuz he felt like a dummy.

as for good memories. well their was the time i met glen danzig and doyle. it was after his first reunion concert with fellow misfit guitarist doyle von frankenstein. my friends and i waited in the parking lot. mostly just cooling off because it was really hot inside the key club, and just resting our feet. around 3 am, he comes out, and they acutally stick around for a 1/2 hour to talk to my friends and i. everyone else was gone by them. so it was really cool just to chat with them. he's just like me, but 2" shorter, and buffer. he's into pro-wrestling, mixed martial arts, cartoons, and similar music. funny thing was i had to go to work after the show. so my friends and i went out to eat, then i showed up to work (office work)smelling like sweat, booze, and covered in blood, with my eyes all blood shot, and partially deaf. good times.

then their was the time i met vince neil (motley crue), and got his autograph. that was sweet. but it was a brief meeting.

i guess the coolest thing that has happened to me at a show was when i saw the colour. a local indie band. i have seen and met them a few times. but the last time i saw them they reconized me. first time they did. and invited me backstage. then as they performed they let me join in on a song, and afterwards just talked for a good while. good times.

sweet. well let me know if you find out. i just find this interesting. i also find it interesting that you might of been in his video and have not clue on what song it was. it's funny i went to a WWE pay per view event "judgement day" i think it was 03-05. but i totally bought the dvd when it came out, and you can see me and my friends in the entire video pretty much. i was wearing a punisher tank top, and you can see me just snapping ton's of pic's. i just bought the dvd to see myself. but i'm so little that only i can tell it's me. so i have to point myself out everytime we watch that dvd.
