Sometimes it's hard to keep you head on straight when things are going dangerously awry all around you. I'd bet that there are more that just the 40 residents of this Florida trailer park that are glad that this 16 year old hero did...

A girl's e-mailed cry for help and her photos of rising flood waters saved 40 neighbors trapped in a submerged mobile home park.
Tiffany Monk, 16, stood outside her Melbourne trailer during Tropical Storm Fay on Thursday and noticed floodwaters slowly overtaking her community on Eau Gallie Boulevard. "There were people trapped in their home," Monk said. "Water was rising and there was no way out. (There were) people with oxygen tanks and wheelchairs and there was no way out. They needed help."Monk snapped photos of Groveland Mobile Home Park and then sent e-mails."You really have to see this," she said in e-mails she sent along with photos of tires floating by in her road. "We are trapped in. Literally, there is no way out.""Finally, I e-mailed the radio station 107.1 and I was like, 'Nobody seems to be coming in here to help us,'" Monk said. "We need help and we are trapped in. And then 20 minutes after that, news people started showing up here."Emergency personnel realized the severity of the situation and sent large trucks to pull out the elderly and disabled people who had a few feet of standing water inside their trailers. Many were taken to the shelter at Sherwood Elementary School in Melbourne. Police then took some people back into their homes to save personal items."I was just trying to help out the best I could," Monk said. "I've learned that if you actually take action then someone might listen to you.""She was worried about the elderly down there and nobody was doing anything," Monk's mother, Connie said. "So, she decided to get on the computer and see what I can get done."

Kudo's to you Tiffany Monk!!

What a great story Jimbo, Thanks for sharing. Tiffany Monk is surely a hero in my book. So many of us will see something going on and think "Oh well someone else has reported it", when it may not be the case. My husband is famous for saying this any time we happen upon something unusual, but I still call. The police may roll their eyes when they see my telephone number come across their Caller ID but I still report things. Tiffany deserves a special recognition because she has surely saved many lives that may of been lost had she not taken action and waited for someone else to make the call.

Great point, Guns! Just goes to show you, not to wait for 'someone else' to take action. You don't have to stop a mugging or an attack of some kind to be heroic.

Think of all the massive flooding problems caused in Florida by TS Fay. How does an insignificant little trailer park stack up?

Because of this kids initiative....

Now that was FUNNY!!

Gun's, will you get a tat like the older lady at the end? LOL, I'll get one for you, not on the lower back though. (bad place for a tat on guys)

Heck, you could be POTUS, and, I'll be the VICE man. Makes no difference to me. :)

Tee hee! I don't know about the tatoo thing, I like them on men (tasteful not sleeves) but I don't like them on women, maybe it's just the southern belle stuff going on, but I think it cheapens a woman. Now there is a subject that I will probably catch alot of heat from, but that is solely my opinion, which I am entitled to and I realize I am probably in the minority of women who feel this way, but still.. that is how I feel about it. I will climb down off my soapbox now ;)

Oh what the hell... as for me being the POTUS, I would rather you be POTUS as I believe men should lead the Country. Damn I stepped on a few toes on this one huh?

LOL. Guns, I don't mind a few strategically located tats on a woman. But, there are some who over-do it.

Now. this inserting metal into your body is one thing I don't understand. A pierced ear. OK, no problem. But, as far a piercing you nose, eyebrows, tongue, and certain other ((wink)) parts of your body.....??

I don't get it either, I guess I am just a boring sort... I have my ears pierced and don't wear much jewelry anyway... plain Jane so to speak. My step-daughter, Jessica, who is 19 going on 20 revealed a pierced naval to me when she came home from college over the summer. She seemed quite proud of it but begged me not to tell my husband. I asked her point blank if she had any other piercings and she said... not yet. She is a beautiful young woman, I would hate to see her get all pierced up and I know her dad would have a cow and litter of kittens if he knew she had pierced her naval.

I saw a lead-in to the show 'Myth Busters' last night, they showed a dude who had been struck by lightning. This guy claimed it struck his tongue stud!!

Another thing, many of these people are getting these piercings from unqualified people, sometimes they have their friends do it!

It know and it scares me to death. Did you watch your boy Biden last night Jimbo, his son sure is a tall glass of water :)

Yeah, Guns, I watched him. I am not a fan of Biden, same old liberal nonsense.

I used to like him, a long time ago. But, the Dems have moved WAY to far left since then, and Biden has moved passively along with them. Needless to say, I don't like LEFT field, not all the way over by the foul line, I prefer right center field. :)

Joe used to be a stand-up guy who would occasionally cross party lines to get something accomplished. He no longer is that same guy.

You don't like JOE!?!?!?!?! But he's got a 'much higher IQ' than us!

Biden

Strange...on a Senators salary that Joe has managed to afford a $1.8 million dollar home! For a guy who grew up poor in Scranton, he sure fell into some money somewhere!

Surge, where have you been?

LOl, Joe certainly has become the a-typical liberal elitist.

He is also a hypocrite, and, politics as usual, just like Obama.

Hey Jim. I took a two week vacation.

Joe lost my respect during the Clarence Thomas hearings. At one time he was fair and a good guy but he's sold his political soul over the years. Going with Obama was laughable, this after he stated just a year ago that he'd "never accept the position of Vice President".

I love how they made a big deal out of him riding a train home every night to be with his sons after the unfortunate death of his wife and daughter. Considering he came home every night before and after all of that, it seems rather convenient to connect the two.

By the way, word is that McCain may be looking at Sarah Palin (can't say I blame him). She has a decent record and would really steal some Clinton backers...not to mention she'd likley take back some of the 18-30 year old men LOL

Thanks Jim. I did. It's the coming back part that sucks.

Yeah, I think I could stand to 'look at her' for four years or so. I just have to ignore the dirty looks from my wife.

No harm in looking, eh Surge?

I had a feeling that you would like Sarah, Guns. :)
