I don't know much about this movie, but Nicole Kidman is a pretty good actress. It's causing a stir with the religious groups. What do you think about that and would you go see it?

The author of the books is a self proclaimed atheist. He admits to wanting to kill God.

No I wouldn't go see it. Just as I wouldn't go see any religious movie out of Hollywood.

The Golden Compass looks to be one of the most creative and epic films made recently. While there is much debate over the content of the books, the movie focuses mainly on Lyra's search for her friends in the far north. The more controversial elements of the story have been watered down so much, they are barely noticeable. The Catholic League has spoken out strongly against the books claiming that the books (not the movie) "denigrates Christianity," but staunch Catholics like Nicole Kidman claim that the movie does not do so and is not against her religion. The debate goes on, but the movie, I think, will be very good. The controversy surrounding it will only make it more successful. Surprisingly, very few religious leaders have come out against the books. One Vicar reviewed his trilogy by saying that the books "moral base" was sound. In the books, it is very clear that the focus is on courage, compassion, kindness and love. It would be a shame to miss seeing the movie based on prejudgment. Every time the Catholic church tries to suppress an idea or a work of literature, I get a cold chill.

Sanctus, and anyone else who does not see that a movie depicting the death of God as serious.

I do have a problem with the idea that it depicts that God will be killed. And this is why.

God sent his son Jesus to this earth primarily to pay the price for the sins I committed against him. God did not have to do this he could have just let us die without a way to be redeemed. But he loved us so much he left the sanctity of heaven became a man and suffered and died for me. He gave his very life (very painfully I may add) so that I would not have to die.
So now I am going to trivialize the sacrifice he did for me by watching something that depicts his death.
That would be like me making a movie depicting the death of someone you love, but because it has a good story line. It is ok; NO it’s not ok if you have a deep love for your creator you will esteem the ultimate sacrifice he gave for you and if you think it is ok to watch something that depicts the one that sacrificed all for you being killed. Then I would have to say you need to examine your love and you connection to God.

Let’s put it this way.

Lets say your Father told you not to go fishing on a boat in the lake were there are lots of alligators, but to fish safely from the pier. But you fished from the pier for a while and thought it would be more exciting to fish from the boat. So you get your boat and row it out to the center of the lake. All the sudden an alligator hits your boat and turns it over. And you fall into the water. You cry out for to be saved. Your father hears you call and even though it wa

it was your own fault that you are in this mess for disobeying him. And are about ready to be eaten. The father jumps in anyway without a second thought and swims to the middle of the lake to save you. He grabs you and pulls you through the alligators to the bank and saves you. You look at yourself and see that you don’t have a scratch on you, but then you look at your father and see half of his legs were eaten up and he is laying on the bank bleeding to death.
Then you Look at his bleeding legs and see the pain and agony he is in then you say “ Father I really appreciate the fact that you risked your life for me, but I found it was pretty fun out there in the midst of the alligators I think I am going to go out there again, ok dad.
If you can say that you have a heart of stone, you don’t esteem the sacrifice that your father had just made. And if you if you don’t love you father to that degree then of course you won’t mind if you do things that hurt him.
Now lets apply this story to Jesus, he came to this earth to be killed for your sins. And if that does not hold that much meaning to you then watching a movie that blasphemes his name or a show that belittles him or humanizes him. Or depicts him being killed, will not offend you because you truly don’t have an understanding or the grasp how important this event is.

The Bible says you are to Love the Lord your God with all you heart mind soul and streghnth and if you are a true Christian and esteem that sacrifice that he did you will want to love him in that capacity. To the Point that anything you see or hear that

demeans you Lord will offend you and disturb you.
I can tell you now that even if some one around me rattles off Gods name like it is nothing like saying “oh my G-o-D . Drives me crazy, makes me shudder. That is blasphemy and the Lord says he will not hold one guiltless who takes his name in vain. So if you don’t hold his name and who he is to that capacity that it bothers you to even see or hear it then you are just as bad as the person who is doing it. The bible even says this. That you are to have truthfulness in the inner parts. So if you can break Gods laws as easily as you take a breath then you are in danger of being on of those who will be standing before Christ on Judgment day crying Lord, Lord and he will say I am sorry but I don’t know you. Don’t be like them that will say this. Examine yourself against Gods laws to see were you stand if you have lied or stolen or lusted, Then God sees you as a lying, thieving and adulterer at heart and God will find you guilty on the Day of Judgment. And the Bible says you will end up in Hell for all eternity.
This is Not Gods will. For God so loved the world that he gave his only begotten Son whosever believes in Him will not perish but have eternal life. He commanded his love for us in yet while we were still sinners Christ DIED FOR US. And if you will confess and TURN from you sin and TRUST in JESUS CHRIST alone for your salvation then he will for give your sin not for something you did but because of what Jesus did on the Cross and grant you eternal life.
Once you do that anything you see or hear that demeans your savi

Savior will become very offensive to you, because you will appreciate the sacrifice as the gift for you soul.
You broke the laws and deserve death, but Jesus paid your fine so that you would have life instead. Don’t you think that deserves you gratitude.
Then watching a movie that depicts him being killed or a movie based off a book that depicts it. Should be offensive to you for there deeming the one who gave you your life. So please confess and repent today if you have not already and trust in Jesus He will never let you down.

No, I don't believe that's a movie I would want to see.

Daniel (Sanctus) Nicole Kidman a staunch Catholic? I thought she was a scientologist?

Minister G,
There is no such thing as God dying. God is the Alpha and Omega, the EVERLASING, HE Can NOT die. He shall always and forver be, therefore the whole notion of HIM dying, is silly, no actually it's stupid.

Yes, Nicole Kidman is a Catholic, 100%. You're confusing her with her ex, Tom Cruise. He's the scientologist. Sigh, does nobody understand symbolism anymore?? God cannot die. No human created by God could kill him. It is not the existence of God that Mr. Pullman is against. Rather, it is the pious, self-righteous, judgemental, life-sucking religious dogma and the humans that propagate it that he opposes. If anybody actually reads the books instead of the critics, one will quickly become aware of the overriding message of love, friendship, family and forgiveness that pervades Pullman's controversial trilogy. But of course, you're free to draw your own conclusions without actually reading the text. It's also fiction meaning that it's a made up story about a make believe world. Oh and minister, if I need to speak with God, I don't use the internet. It's still a local call for me. Have a good night and a better tomorrow.

I wouldn't never take a child.. the book series is very anti-religion. I understand they tried to tone that down for the movie. But, I haven't read the books & won't. No interest.
I also feel the same about Harry Potter. There is better reading material for kids.

Kidman was a scientologist for a period of time. Here is a Website that has stolen a Post article about her leaving the church (and I find humorous) slapped a copyright on the bottom of it:

LambChopSushi,

I understand that, and I know that he is the Alpha and Omega the beginning and the end. He is from everlasting to everlasting.
What I am saying is that a movie depicting the idea of God Dying is, I agree stupid because your right it can not happen. What I am saying is that this is an antichristian film and no mater if the special effects are good or even that it gets secular good reviews, it should be avoided because of it's nature of antichristian that is what I was saying.

Oh and Sanctus. I don't really know what you mean be using the internet to talk to God. Are you confusing my witnessing and speeding the Gospel as saying you have to reach God through internet that’s silly I spread the Gospel to plant seed which I pray the Holy Spirit will grow and that Gospel is this:

It is appointed man once to die then after this the judgment.
so if you have sinned (which we all have)for the bible says That all have sinned and fall short of the glory of God then we commanded to repent
But What is sin. The Bible says that Sin is transgression of the Law
So, If you have lied, stolen, looked with lust. God will find you guilty on the day of Judgment. And will end up in Hell for eternity.

God does not want you to perish He wants to give you life.
He sent his Son Jesus to pay the debt we can not pay.
For God so loved the world he gave his only begotten Son that whosoever believes in him will not perish but have everlasting life.
Jesus was crucified and was buried then on the 3rd day rose from the dead and is now at the right hand of the Father interced

No worries Minister, just busting' your chops a bit on the website, keep on keeping' on. I am curious though. Isn't any movie that does not espouse the biblical teachings of Jesus as the savior anti-Christian by definition? I'm not really sure where you draw the line. If I were going to take your position on Golden Compass, I would need to take a hard line on pretty much every work of art, literature and comedy that does not promote the fear of God and the redemption of Christ that you celebrate. Don't get me wrong, I'm not knocking you for anything, I'm just interested in how you justify any form of entertainment that does not preach the gospel as you obviously do. I have read the trilogy and I did not find it anti-Christian at all unless you define anti-Christian as anything which does not preach the gospel. What is it, specifically, about the movies and the books that you fear? Suppression of thought has never brought anyone closer to God, but it has led to countless deaths at the hands of far too many tyrants. I realize that free will is a much more complicated idea than it first appears, but there it is. Using faith in eternity with God to condemn the mortal is neither biblical or moral. As you've repeated several times, it is God and God alone who passes judgment according to the bible.

Any movie that incorporates Religion or God that does not align with scripture or false teachings of any sort is antichristian.
the movie underdog was very entertaining and it did not incorporate anything about religion that I remember. But the movie the dvinci code was a total shot at the core belief in Christianity. then there are movies that the language in itself though not religion related still is offensive. The movie Jaws which I really enjoyed when I was not a Christian came on the other night and it was on regular TV so I was setting down to watch it then I noticed something that I did not notice before as a nonchristian that Jesus' name was being thrown around like it was just another word to express discuss or irritation made a pit form in my stomach and as I was reaching for the remote to change the channel because when I heard it I had no more interest in watching but before I could change the channel they had said it 2 more times.
I also cant stand watching a TV show that just spouts off Gods name like it means nothing almost every new show I see now uses the phrase oh my G-D. People say it without thinking because it has become a habit but regardless whether it is a habit or not it is still blasphemy and a violation of the 3rd commandment if one has a true love for the God that gave them there life and the lives of everyone they loved they would hold His name in reverence instead of just slinging it around as if it is of no effect. so if I am watching anything that incorporates God (including the wrongful use of his name in other word blasphemy), Religio

Religion (other then in reverence and in accordance to scripture) or any false teaching or representation of anti Christian behavior. And I will even go a step further anything that teaches satanic actions like witchcraft(harry potter) I will find wrong. Why because the bible says for us to abstain from all forms of evil and witchcraft, It is an abomination to the Lord.
The bible warns in the last days there would be many false prophets and false teachings and doctrines that will tickle the ears of those who want to justify there sins in one way or another.
What better way to justify oneself then to create a God in there own mind that is sympathetic to sin
If you have ever said My God would or would not do or say things and it is not backed up by scripture. the bible has a word for that and that is idolatry making a God to suite yourself this sin can go all the way back to Adam and eve when eve believed the lie that she would be like God if she ate the fruit.

So do I put off a movie that does not preach the Gospel in some form: NO but if they incorporate his name in the wrong way or portray false teachings or religion. Then yes and I will not watch them because I have to much respect for the God that gave me my life and the lives of my family.
and this compass movie has the overtone that God which is represented as the lion would be killed The outwardly professing atheist has done this purposely. And from what I understand is being marketed as a kids movie.

as far as God passing final judgment that is true but we do have the discernment to judge righteous judg

righteous judgment meaning that yes, I am not the one blaspheming Gods name on that movie screen but I do have the biblical reasonability to speak against it saying that it is wrong to speak the Lords name in such a way. By leaving the theater or turning the TV channel If I did not and it did not bother me in the least to hear them do it then I would be just as bad as the one saying it. Remember God will judge the thoughts and intensions of the heart. and if I did not find it offensive when my Lord does then I would not be a very good follower of his words.

Would you care if I used your mothers name as a curse word to express discuss? Of course you would, shouldn't we hold the Name of God the creator of all in even more respect??

Everyone confess and forsake you sins now. For you will never know when death will seize upon you, and you will stand before God. Don't stand before Him still in your sins Confess and repent and trust in Jesus now. Today is the day of Salvation. because once you pass through that door of death then all that waits is the judgment. Are you ready??

Go to Psalms 51 and make that you personal prayer before it is to late

Then Read you bible everyday and obey what you read
God Loves you and won't let you down.
