If you’ve ever entertained any doubts that the Democrats in Washington are really invested in the defeat of the United States in the Middle East, there can no longer be any doubt.

.

You see, indications are that things are going very well in Iraq right now. And the Democrats can’t allow that to happen. They can see their hopes in 2008 going down the tubes if the United States military were to actually win over there. After all, they’ve already declared that the war is lost and that U.S. soldiers are just running around over there bombing villages and murdering civilians. They’ve called General Petraeus a liar when he said that we’re winning. So they can’t allow him to be right.

.

Well, fearing an eminent victory in Iraq, the Democrats have been feeling pressure coming from their Left Wing base to get more serious about opposing the Bush Administration’s efforts to win the war. To that end, Nancy Pelosi is presenting a resolution to the House condemning Turkey for killing Armenians during World War I, calling it genocide. The Resolution has already passed the House Foreign Affairs Committee on Wednesday.

.

Turkey has always denied that any genocide of Armenians took place. They say that both Turks and Armenians died as the Ottoman Empire collapsed at the end of World War I and they are very sensitive to suggestions that there was any wrongdoing on their part.

.

Whether it happened or not is up for debate. But, even if it happened, that was almost a hundred years ago. So what possible purpose could such a resolution serve today? Especially given the fact that the U. S Congress has already passed two resolutions since that time that said the same thing.

.

Simple folks. Turkey is a critical ally in the War on Terrorists. They allow flyovers of U.S. military aircraft as well as allowing us to use their country as a staging area for men and supplies being deployed in Iraq and Afghanistan. So the Democrat strategy is to alienate this important ally in the war in the hope that it will hinder our efforts to win victory in Iraq and Afghanistan. Think about that, folks. The Democrats are actively trying to sever the supply lines to our troops in their effort to cause them to lose the war. I find that unbelievable. In fact, it's downright treasonous.

.

Passing this resolution will be considered a gross insult by the Turks. In fact, the Turks have already recalled their Ambassador. Prime Minister Tayyip Erdogan commented last Friday that U.S. Turkish relations are endangered because of this resolution. He used a Turkish idiom to describe how bad relations are by saying, "Where the rope is worn thin, may it break off."

.

It’s hard to believe that we could have a political party in the United States that is so desirous of seeing their country defeated in a time of war that they are purposely trying to alienate our allies. This is the same party that has been bashing Bush for years claiming that he has alienated the rest of the world from us. This is the same party who seems to be obsessed with what other countries think of us. This is the same party who seems to feel that we must get the permission of other countries before we can defend ourselves. Yet this same party is willing to insult our allies if it serves their political ambitions. That is almost beyond belief.

.

I say again. If you had any doubts that the Democrats were so invested in our defeat that they are actively working to undermine our efforts to win the victory, there can be no doubt now.

I have never had any doubt. Funny, I saw a political cartoon in the paper today that fits.
A man and a donkey are at the NYSE looking at a graph that shows deaths and chaos in Iraq dropping rabidly. The man says: "The trend is our friend." The donkey, (wearing a tag that says "08) says: "Not if you're invested in defeat." LOL!

Oops! Rapidly, not rabidly.

Victory in Iraq occurred in 2003, when we defeated Saddam Hussein and installed a new Iraqi government. The only thing we have to do now is police the streets and protect the Iraqi Government. What else do we need to do to "win" this conflict? It's not even a war, a war has to be declared by Congress.

Well, to put it simply, we must win. Yes the goal was to take out Saddam. To finish, we must leave Iraq as a free democracy, in charge of thier own destiny. Anything else would be failure. Have we accomplished that yet? No, but it will be soon, America willing. Longer, America not willing. I think the choice is clear. Why don't you? Let's get it over with!
Walking away, is NOT an option.
Despite you, and your media, many great things are happening in Iraq, thanx to America, and her troops. While you and your media avoid it, others do not.
Please see J_Darrowins blog on US soldiers torturing children. One of the many things that you and your ilk ignore.

Good post jfore !During the COLD WAR, Turkey was an ALLY. They allowed the US the rights to airbases, allowed the US to station intermediate ballistic missiles on their soil, and allowed the US to set up sites for electronic surveilence. Since then, they have continued to allow the US the same righs, it is in their best intrests as well. America has FEW ALLIES,it is BEYOND stupid to insult those that we have. Putin and HIS goverment need to be watched closely in this day and age,Turkey affords a close base for those operations. A stable Middle East is in the best intrests of a good bit of the World, a strong and well financed military though is not in the best intrests of the COMMUNISTS on the HILL !

Jfore, I'm glad to see that I'm not the only one who has his suspicions about the sudden interest in the House bringing up the genocide. I actually touched on this on Northton's blog (Will We Have Turkey on Thanksgiving?). Pretty suspicious timing. Since Pelosi and company can't get the funding cut off, it almost sounds like they decided to try cutting off one of the few allies we have instead. As you said, what could they possibly gain out of it, besides being able to pat themselves on the back? Why anger the Turks now?

You paint all Democrats with a pretty broad stroke. What would you say to the soldier or Marine fighting in Iraq who also happens to be a Democrat?

Maybe getting away from partisanship and focusing on the issues is a better way to go.

Shadows, I don't know who you're addressing your comments to. But, as far as I'm concerned, when I talk about Democrats I'm basically talking about the national party and its leadership. I know there are individuals who call themselves Democrats yet don't necessarily agree with their leadership. But here's the problem. They're still allowing those people to speak for them without comment. When Republicans disagree with party leaders they are very vocal. Remember Harriet Myers. But as long as Democrats allow the Left Wing kooks to run their party and remain silent they are lumped in with the group.

jfore, as right as you are on the above statement, not all Dems remain silent. Just seems to me that Republicans are more likely to attack with insults.

shytowndude: You're right. But far too many Dems remain silent. Either that, or they keep voting for candidates to represent them that aren't really listening to them. Give me some examples of Republicans attacking with insults. Do you mean like the way the Dems recently attacked Bill O'Reily, Rush Limbaugh, and General Patraeus? Do you mean like the way Jack Murtha attacked our troops by calling them murderers? Do you mean the way Barak Obama accused the military of bombing innocent civilians in villages in Iraq? Or the way Dick Durbin compared them to Nazis, Russian Gulag guards snd Pol Pot's murderers? Or maybe you mean like John Kerry telling troops that they're stupid? Have you ever listened to Al Frankin? Or maybe you're talking about the way Ted Kennedy called Judge Alito a "racial bigot." And let's not forget Al Gore calling Conservative voters the "extra chromosome right wing." (In case you don't know, those with Downs Syndrome have an extra chromosome). Look, I don't doubt that there are some insults on both sides of the aisle. But you've got to be kidding when you say that Republicans are more likely to attack with insults when the Dems wrote the book on tossing out insults to get their point across.

jfore, I still say that getting away from the partisanship and focusing on the issues is the way to go. BTW, both Democrats and Republicans have a tendency to parrot talking points with little thought given to their implications. The Democrats have a reputation for not being able to agree among themselves, hence losing elections because of not being united.

Both parties are a danger to our country and the threats to our sovereignty are more pronounced by people within our country than those abroad. They may not be blowing anything up but they are still domestic enemies.

Do you ALL agree with everything that comes from the mouths of Republican leaders? If you do then you are not thinking for yourselves - something you seem to think Democrats don't do...

I don't agree with "everything" that comes out of ANYONE'S mouth. and BTW, I never claimed to be Republican, either.

"why wouldn't it have been brought up years ago?" This issue HAS been brought up in congress many times over the course of my life. There are several Armenian groups, most significantly, the Armenian National Committee of America (ANCA), that have continually lobbied for it!

It's finally getting attention now, because Muslims have once again called for the murder of Christians. While it's obvious most of you could care less, some Christians take offense to Muslim extremists working towards the genocide of "infidels"!

In addition, anyone's assertion that Turkey is logistically “vital” ignores our other allies; including Israel, who some Middle Eastern leaders claim is the root of our problems there!

WinterParkJeff:

Just as a footnote to what you said. All of our allies are vital. But my posting was specifically addressing the situation with one of those allies, Turkey. Almost 75% of all supplies for our military in Iraq passes through Turkey. It they back out I'm sure we can make other arrangements. But it would sure complicate things. The Dems know how critical that supply line is. They are well aware of the peril it would cause our soldiers if Turkey backs out, at least until other arrangements could be made. Yet they are actively trying to sever it. I find that unbelievable and treasonous.

I'm sorry, but this initiative was NOT started by the Dems! The Armenian National Committee of America is a largely Republican organization that lobbies to both parties.

Why do you think anyone wants to put our soldiers in danger? There are Democrats that have children in the armed forces... it doesn't fit in with your argument, but it is true.

WinterParkJeff:
The Armenian National Committee of America is an organization composed of ARMINIANS. To say that it is "a largely Republican organization" in ludicrous because there is no way to know that. Their regional offices are located in three of the most liberal and Democrat cities in America. The Congressman who resurrected this resolution is a Democrat from a district in California populated by a large number of Arminians. The fact is, this resolution is being championed by Democrats and a few RINOs. But you have to question the timing. This alleged genoicide occurred almost 100 years ago. If the Democrats are so interested in condemning genocide where are the resolutions condemning the genocide that is taking place TODAY in Darfur, Burma, and China? So it's obvious that their concern is bogus. Their sole purpose is to alienate Turkey and cause a setback for the U.S. military in Iraq for political gain. They are so invested in defeat that they can't afford any success in Iraq if they ever hope to win in 2008. And how can you even suggest that these Democrats don't know that this will harm the military? You're cutting off their lifeline, for crying out loud. There's no way that it can't hurt them. The Turks have already told us that they may toss us out of Turkey if this passes. They've already recalled their ambassador. So, as a Democrat, ask yourself this. What is more important to you, condemning genocide that happened almost 100 years ago, or keeping the supply lines open to American troops who are fighting a war right now?

Truth and honesty is what’s important to me. If you think I’m a Dem, because I don’t support Bush, you’re as dumb as he is! Anyone that’s not a Bushie must be a Democrat or a RINO, huh?

Well, “there is no way to know that” ANCA is "a largely Republican organization". Maybe not, but here’s a quote from their website… “As Armenian Americans, it is important for us to be here (at the Republican Convention) this weekend. There are many Republican Armenians and it is important for their interests and concerns to be represented here,” remarked Hadjinian. “Officials such as Giuliani and Poochigian have been good friends of the Armenian American community and this convention helps us maintain these relationships”

They've been pushing for this legislation for DECADES. I’ve heard about it for DECADES! I guess the “Democrats” have been trying to make Bush look bad since before he was sniffing coke in college? You are a paranoid fool!

WPJ,
I'm sure Hadjinian would have said the same thing at the Democrat Convention. It's called hedging your bets.
You may or may not be registered as a Democrat or admit to being one. But if it walks like a duck and quacks like a duck it's a duck, right? Most Democrats I know like to tell me they're open minded and just vote for the best person as they spout one Democrat talking point after another. A liberal is a liberal. A tiger is a tiger. The dead give away in your case is when you started calling me names and attacking Bush with outrageous accusations(you're as dumb as he is!; sniffing coke in college; you're a paranoid fool). Liberals can't compete in the arena of ideas so they always resort to name calling and personal attacks whenever they hear something they don't like and can't defend. By the way, I noticed you didn't answer my question. As a Democrat, what is more important to you, condemning genocide that happened almost 100 years ago, or keeping the supply lines open to American troops who are fighting a war right now?
