Supreme Court Strikes Down D.C. Gun Ban, Upholds Right to Keep and Bear Amrs

Thursday, June 26, 2008

WASHINGTON —  The Supreme Court says Americans have a right to own guns for self-defense and hunting, the justices' first definitive pronouncement on gun rights in U.S. history.

Sorry I seem to be having issues with HTML tags today.

This article puts most of the blame for gas price increases the same place I assign the majority of the blame - the devaluation of the dollar.

As I've said many times, you got your stimulus package, the fed bailed out an investment company by inflating the money supply for the first time in history, the federal government continues to borrow, borrow, and borrow, and it's tantamount to theft.

Government sponsored inflation is stealing from you, but you don't see it. It's all a mind game with funny money, and not 1 person in 100 understands it.

Stop blaming the oil barrons, the bush administration, the saudis (we actually get most of our oil from Canada, but it's easier to blame brown people who dress funny and aren't christian), and everyone else.

It's not the economy, stupid. It's the fed, stupid.

OK all you HAM radio enthusiasts - I need some help here.

I just passed my technician license test. I don't have a call sign yet, but should have it tomorrow.

I'll be riding in the "Janie's over the next hill" motorcycle ride this sunday as a road captain and EMT. I'd like to have some other hams out at the event to help us coordinate the traffic of 400+ bikers or at least monitor for emergency traffic.

The event is up north. It starts at the downtown airport and winds up in Liberty. I know there are repeaters all over that area, but can't seem to find out the names of any clubs in those areas.

Can anyone help here?

Congress' approval is the lowest of any U.S. institution

Ok we hear it on this blog, on the news, in the op-ed pieces of the newspapers, at the water cooler, and everywhere else. People have a very cycnical attitude toward government, and congress in particular.

Yet these same people constantly RE-ELECT the same congressmen they claim to have no confidence in.

Congress enjoys a re-election rate of 96-98% on average. And to add fuel to the fire, it seems people want more and more government every day. They don't think government can do anything, so they propose government solutions. And they CONTINUE to allow the two party monopoly on power in the false hopes that anything will ever really change. What's going on here?

My theory is that people have figured out how to vote their neighbors money into their own pockets. MY congressman brings home the pork, he's not the problem. It's the other 434 that are taking my money for their districts.

I for the life of me can't come up with any other explanation. What about you all?

Theories?

It's motorcycle season. That means that people like me, WingMan, biker-terry, jewwelsp and many other of our friends here will be out on bikes alot. In fact I ride nearly every day. I'm going to say this here to everyone because I'm tired of hearing it from other people directed toward me: BE CAREFUL.

It seems almost every day I get told by someone who has never ridden a bike that I should ride careful. Well guess what? 2/3 of the time in a car on bike accident, it's the CAR DRIVER'S FAULT. So maybe we bikers should be telling YOU non-bikers to be careful?

Furthermore, if I wanted to be careful I wouldn't ride a bike. I live my life for freedom, not security. I'd rather die like a man than live like a BOOGEDY. However I don't have a death wish either. So please spare me the endless stories of bike wrecks. We don't want to hear it, we don't care. I don't care what you saw 20 years ago. I don't care if you or your sister is an ER nurse. I don't care what you think about me or my bike or my lack of D.O.T. approved helmet.

The point is, statistically idiotic car drivers are taking us out at an alarming rate, then hypocritically blaming it on US either directly or indirectly. Then we have to listen to their horror stories, and how crazy and/or stupid we are. We're not stupid just because we're bikers. We're not "riding a donor mobile". We're living our lives the way we want to live them.

"We must be careful, so that we will arrive at death safe and sound".

Now there' some cannon fodder for the blog. With the helmet reference and my attitude, I be tthis one goes over 20 posts....  LOL

I came across this video presentation that explains personality types. It's very entertaining!

It explains different personality types in colors, and shows how each interacts.

It's about 40 minutes long, so probably should save it for when you're not at work - but if you're into this sort of thing it's really fun.

Great for sales people and managers!

Click on the link at the bottom left of the screen.

Enjoy!

(PS, I'm a RED) LOL....

Post your personality color after you've watched.

With a headline that shocking, I knew I'd draw attention. But it's true. Things do cost money. Why, you ask, do I have to prove myself to be a master of the obvious by making this statement? Well it's because my friends on the left don't seem to understand it.

When the subject of universal healthcare and other forms of welfare come up, the left likes to put on a parade of individuals who didn't receive adequate care, and then use that as justification for their cause. "How could you turn your back on this person?" they ask.

They then decide they have the moral high ground, and demand that everyone have access to healthcare. Sounds great, right? Unfortunately it's not reality now, nor will it ever be. The reasons are simple. THINGS COST MONEY.

Ask those on the left who advocate this policy how much they have donated to the individuals they're pardading around. Often, they say they don't have any money to donate. Even the Ted Kennedys and John Edwards of the world, who ARE filthy rich, don't donate all of their money to welfare.  They just pass laws saying YOU will. So, the next question is, who will donate it?

The answer is usually THE RICH. So, the poor are going to demand that the rich pay up (even more than they already do - the top 15% of the income earners pays about 60% of the taxes, conservatively). Or worse yet, BIG CORPORATIONS (Exxon pays 49% income tax, how much do YOU pay?) So then we demand our politicians pass laws taking money from these groups. Some of us just figure if you pass a law, money appears from nowwhere. Well I guess in fairness, it does with the government's involvement. That's option 3 - we borrow it from our grandkids.

Once the law is passed, the IRS enforces it with their private army, the ATF. The ATF will show up at the Rich's door, and our grandkids' door, and take their belongings at gunpoint if they don't pay. Why does this remind me of Robin Hood? Oh, ya, because it's theft, that's why.

But let's just say we take all the money from the rich and we continue to borrow, taking from our grandkids, until nobody will buy our debt paper anymore. Then there is no more money. Then what?

Medicaire is already going broke. Beginning this year, it is paying out more than it is taking in. We as a nation carry the most debt of any country in the history of the world. So when the rich are gone, and the debt crushes those of us left, what will happen?

Everyone will still have money, and everyone will still have a health care card. They'll just have to wait in line until they die to get treated, and their money will be as worthless as monopoly money.

But they'll have that card, and they'll have that entitlement.  And we can all rest easy knowing we care.

Kansas Senate Bill 458, "Comprehensive Immigration Reform", died in committee yesterday.

This bill would enact harsh penalties for employers who knowingly hire illegal aliens ("undocumented workers" to the leftist media).

We need to try to push this through again next year.

I'll be campaigning for it all summer. If you live in KS, call your state Rep and Senator to let them know you want it "revived" next year.

I see a lot of complaining about gas prices here on the blog. I've had it out with many of you in friendly debates about the cause of the increases in prices. Regardless of who you blame, there is something you can do about it.

BUY A BIKE!

As my blog name indicates, biking is the love of my life, so this is a no brainer for me. I ride anything on 2 wheels. I've got 2 road bicycles, a Trek and a Cannondale, a Schwinn Mountain bike, a Honda Shadow crusier, and the latest edition to my collection, a Rakatak enduro.

I bought the Rakatak brand new for $1450.00 delivered to my door. I got it last night. It did require about an hour or two of assembly, but once I got it put together, it started right up and took off!

As soon as i get it tagged, I'll be riding it every day to work. It gets 70mpg. I commute 7 miles each way every day. By my calculations, that's one gallon of gas a week to commute.

I used to ride my bicycles to work, but it's become impractical since I have to haul a laptop, take a shower, etc. But at 70mpg, I can easily justify the motor.

So now I'm taking pride in knowing that my reduced gas consumption is not only saving me money, but it's probably one less hand grenade in the hand of a terrorist, since a considerable amount of our oil comes from OPEC nations - most notable Saudi Arabia - who funds all the modrassas that turn out these terrorists.

I'm not trying to be self righteous here - but please consider a two wheeler if you can. The demand will drop, and so will the price. And in the meantime, maybe there will be a few less bullets flying in the middle east.

60 minutes ran an interesting (and depressing) piece last Sunday evening about the "millennium generation". These are the kids who are now beginning to enter the workforce.

They are the 20 somethings who were raised to believe that everyone is a winner, everyone is special, everyone gets a trophy, and probably that everyone should get a paycheck just for showing up to work.

These kids expect to be able to move back in with mom and dad after graduating college, waiting as long as it takes to find that perfect job. Which, from what I saw, was a job that allowed them to wear their backwards baseball hats, t-shirts, dirty ragged jeans and neon pink flip-flops in every day. It also would ideally have a nap room, a break time for little parties and socializing on myspace, and other features of an adult daycare.

The sad thing is, the parents of these kids are STILL baby sitting the kids. They are calling college instructors complaining about the kids' grades. They're even going so far as to call HR departments to chew them out about a poor performance review that their little junior received. When will this madness end?

There is now a new multi-million dollar industry popping up to teach the kids how to dress, eat with manners, and probably even wipe correctly. These same consultants also teach managers how to 'coach" (read: baby sit) these kids rather than give them something to do and expect them to get it done.

Well one of the guests blamed it on Mr. Rogers. He's the one who started all this nonsense of every kid being a winner. Now don't get me wrong, my parents swear up and down I loved Mr. Rogers, and I do recall good memories of watching him. He was a great guy. But that didn't warp me into becoming a thumb sucking dependent at age 26. In fact I was out of the house at 18, before even graduating high school, and never went back.

The scary thing is, we're going to be handing off the largest debt in the history of the world to these kids.

Nope, it isn't Mr. Rogers who corrupted the kids. I suspect he may have corrupted the parents though.

This just in!

We, the delegates of the 2008 Libertarian National Convention, have elected Congressman Bob Barr as our candidate for U.S. President, and "King of Vegas" Wayne Allyn Root as our Vice Presidential candidate!

We also reformed the platform, making it even simpler and less overbearing than it was.

The Barr / Root ticket is sure to generate alot of momentum for the cause of freedom and liberty!

You now have a real choice in the upcoming election. The choice is a candidate from the party of big government, the party of even bigger government, or the LIbertarian Party!

Now is the time to jump on board! With just over 160 days left, lovers of smaller government, lower taxes, and more freedom need to come together to back this incredible ticket!

BTW- did you guys see me on C-SPAN? LOL...

As an active member and leader of a 3rd party, I sometimes hear people say things like, "well we do need an alternative to the two party system". Or even more frequently, they say, "if only we had a viable 3rd party", or even "we should create a 3rd party".

Well I'd like for ANYONE to find me ANY legal document ANYWHERE that says this country is a two party system. Find me any document written that says we even SHOULD be a two party system. The only people that would have you believe we are a two party system are the members of the power clubs known as the Democrats and Republicans, which are barely distinguishable at this point.

Not only are we NOT a two party system by design, our founding fathers even warned against political factions.

The fact is that the Libertarian Party is large enough to win almost any federal election (we expect to have ballot access in 48 states again in this election). So what is your excuse for thinking we live in a two party system? What is your reason for continuing to vote for the lesser of two evils?

You want real CHANGE? Stop electing candidates from the same two parties. The only solution either of them offers is more government.

As far as I'm concerned, a two party system is 1) Party on Friday night, 2) Party on Saturday night. And our government is doing both at our expense.

Government creates the problem, government solves the problem, government solution creates new problems. Do you see the common denominator?

A phenomenon was discovered in New Guinea in the 1940s known as "cargo plane cults" by anthropologists. These cults sprang up in response to modern aged white men showing up and introducing their brand new way of life to the natives. It is a fascinating study of man's ingrained need for religion.

These cults observed that planes carrying bountiful cargo would arrive to supply the white men with everything they could want or need. They further observed that the white men had strange ways - and associated them with the planes' arrivals.

They saw that the white men would talk on a radio. They built towers to talk on these radios, which made the planes come. They came to the only logical conclusion a human could come to: the white men were communicating with their gods through the radio, causing the planes to show up.

As a result, a gospel quickly sprang up to explain the entire supernatural affair. A local leader is supposed to have direct contact and influence over the white men. The proof is that of course, soon after the white men arrived, and the native leader was assimilated by them, BLACK men similar to the white men began to appear.

Local cult leaders claim to have seen their native leader in visions. Interestingly enough, nobody knows for sure if the guy even existed in the first place. But the natives continue waiting for the glorious millenium of plenty - when the planes will come in for them.

Every year, they set aside a holiday to clear a field for the leader and his plane. They build towers, and use mach radios in which their mediums talk gibberish through and claim to receive message in return from the cargo Gods.

Now clearly these people have not been property educated about the Church of the Orbiting Teapot. I'd like to organize a mission to evangelize the teapot, and show them how they can have a personal relationship with Him. They must be saved from their ignorance. Now is the time.

Who's in?

Photographer has a problem with Totally Nude Temptations.

Evidently this photographer has a real problem with Totally Nude Tempations (a strip bar in downtown K.C.). So he decides to offer free family portraits for any man who shows up with his family in tow, to be taken in front of the club.

I guess we men are supposed to run like cockroaches exposed to the kitchen light. We're supposed to pretend that we've never been to strip clubs, that we never go to strip clubs, and never will again, right? Wrong.

This guy assumes that all families are as uptight as his. He assumes that everyone out there is of his nanny state mentality - ban everything you don't like. It's Smoking Ban Part II folks. If you don't like what's going on inside a club, BAN IT. Don't just decide you'll never walk in the front door, make sure nobody else can either!

Are the girls forced to work there? Are the guys forced to go there? Are the girls demeaned? The answer ( to anyone who has never known a stripper) is NO. Unless she already has a moral problem with it, in which case she's in the wrong line of work.

I'm tired of the moral majority folks. I'm tired of people dictating what can and can't be done behind closed doors between consenting adults. Let's all grab the wife and kids and run down to get our pics taken! Support your local strippers!

I love to discuss political philosophy. The problem I have is that liberals often assume I'm conservative and convserervatives often assume I'm liberal. It's because I'm neither. I'm libertarian, which means I believe in both social and economic freedom. I don't do personal attacks. I won't respond to yours, and I won't initiate one against you. So save yourself some time if you're thinking of flaming me!
