This just in!

We, the delegates of the 2008 Libertarian National Convention, have elected Congressman Bob Barr as our candidate for U.S. President, and "King of Vegas" Wayne Allyn Root as our Vice Presidential candidate!

We also reformed the platform, making it even simpler and less overbearing than it was.

The Barr / Root ticket is sure to generate alot of momentum for the cause of freedom and liberty!

You now have a real choice in the upcoming election. The choice is a candidate from the party of big government, the party of even bigger government, or the LIbertarian Party!

Now is the time to jump on board! With just over 160 days left, lovers of smaller government, lower taxes, and more freedom need to come together to back this incredible ticket!

BTW- did you guys see me on C-SPAN? LOL...

Welcome back JP.. sounds like the convention was a success. Lets see, a party that actually accomplishes the goals they set out to accomplish...... hmmmm LOL

jstol- they should have the platform up on lp.org soon if they don't already.

I only debated one plank - urging the body to strike #23, abortion completely from the platform.

I'd prefer the platform to be silent about it since we're split down the middle just like every other party. Plus, (and to my point when I spoke on the floor), it's not a black and white issue to most people.

Well it's good you got to hear it here, cause I doubt any news media will stop talking about Obama for 5 seconds to announce it themselves.

There is a CHANCE we'll get into the debates this year though - with a heavy hitter like barr.

I explained to his wife that our last candidate was hauled off in a paddy wagon when he tried to get into the debates. She was a bit taken aback LOL

Oh, and btw, we didn't charge you guys anything for our convention. We paid for the whole thing.

YOU and I the taxpayers will pay for the 2 state sponsored political parties' conventions.

Very un-American. No buying votes, no billion dollar spending to get elected for a $400,000/year job, no big convention that all the networks including the comedy channel covers.

Americans want waste, a useless war, unemployement, illegals working for nothing, the elite in charge, an SUV in every driveway accompanied by lower gasoline prices, and maybe a mobile home, free education, and a redo on the standards that classify everyone as fat.

I see your candidate getting one half of a quarter percent of the vote.

mpvan, are you saying that you would or wouldn't vote for someone who thinks the way you do? Or are you saying you'd vote for someone based on their electability and just comes close to the way you think? I get the satire in the beginning, but I'm confused on your prediction of the vote. We really do need to flush the toilet in DC and get rid of the s*%@#%&d in office now.

Ok, translation: the cost of getting elected makes it prohibive for most. Those who run a campaign are so far out of touch with the electorate. One person doesn't make that big a difference anyway. The current top 3 are the weakest in a while.

The current unpopular president(historical low approval rating of all time) got re-elected in the midst of an immensely unpopular war, proving that style--a stance on family values vs John Kerry, won over substance.

Due to the mess things are currently in, in won't matter who wins, they will look bad because of what was inherited.

And lastly, wait until election results to see the total percentage of the popular vote Barr/Root garners. I would guess less than one percent based on history.

No one thinks like I do.

unfortunately mpvan is 100% correct. The only thing he left out was our biggest problem, "wasted vote syndrome".

Although this one could be different. Barr has the same campaign manager as Perot did. Perot did SIGNIFICANTLY better than 1% - somewhere closer to 15% if I recall.

THAT would send shock waves throughout the beltway if we could get even close. It would send a very loud message, and there would be real change.

But nobody has the courage to do it, cause the other guy might get in.

Thank you, both of you. And unfortunately, it did nothing but reenforce my belief that America is still in deep caca. I want to believe that the system has a way of self correction built into it, well it used to. Not any more. Any of the main three get elected and its status quo. I can't explain the, wasted vote syndrome, without using the word fear and that's sad in the "home of the brave".

Normally I am content to skulk around in the background reading everyone's blogs, but I wanted to weigh in on this one.
I too am among the many disappointed Americans who have lost all faith in our politicians. I've followed most of your blogs on the Libertarian party and decided to check out your candidate and his platform, I also looked up Ron Paul's since he claims he will not drop out.
I've decided that I will be among the 'vote wasters' this year and while I'm leaning more towards Ron Paul, I wanted to thank you for taking the time to stand up for your party and giving others insight into it!

Well put , America_First, it's not a waste to stand up for what you believe in, especially when you think for yourself and not just fall in line because you think in the end you be behind a winner. To me that's a wasted vote.

Great America First!

Unfortunately you won't be able to vote for Paul, unless you can write him in.

I will say that I have little doubt if Paul would have come back home to us, he would have CRUSHED everyone else on stage and taken our votes almost unanimously.

I don't like *everything* Paul says, (nobody likes *EVERYTHING* ANYONE says, unless he has no mind of his own), but he has done more for our cause than anyone else, ever.

I love to discuss political philosophy. The problem I have is that liberals often assume I'm conservative and convserervatives often assume I'm liberal. It's because I'm neither. I'm libertarian, which means I believe in both social and economic freedom. I don't do personal attacks. I won't respond to yours, and I won't initiate one against you. So save yourself some time if you're thinking of flaming me!
