If you're alive and breathing, human, and living in this country, you're about to get stuck with a $2,666.66 bill. That will cost me and my family over $13,000.00. Your government is saddling you with this debt. Why?

The debt ceiling will be raised by $800 billion to pay for a sub prime mortgage welfare package. It's welfare for everyone - irresponsible lenders and borrowers from wall street to main street.

But when every family already owes over a half mil in government debt and unfunded liabilities, what's another $13 grand?

Our financial system is going to collapse. This just puts it off a little longer and makes it a little worse when it does.

Here is the original article

And there's already talk of tax rebate (welfare package) II this year.

I know! We can use that to pay for the sub prime bailout! We'll just borrow our way out of debt.

How can a $2,666.66 bill cost $13k

No one is "billed" for the federal debt.

The article does not refer to those numbers.

The national debt is raised for everyday operating expenditures. It covers everything from Federal salaries, to the War.

Everyone's tax situation is different, many make a lot and pay no tax. Some of those people work for the government or, better yet, own a company who supplies to the government and then pays no tax!

There's no individual incentive to retire the debt.

the goverments answer to this problem equates to a midget pissing on a forest fire,

God Help Us !!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

God is at the ballpark. She needs entertainment, tired of all the politics and stupid ads. There's a nice picture of proof earlier this week in the KCStar. Gary Sheffield just hit a home run and he has his hands raised in thanks, pointing to the heavens where she has the best seat. Spiritually uplifting. She obviously doesn't care who wins either, unless its the Devil Rays, I mean just Rays now. Royals lost 19-4 that day!

Spell check, my response to each of your paragraphs:

There are 5 in my family, 2,666.00 * 5 is > $13,000.00. The half million in debt and unfunded liabilities is from a 5/21/06 (I believe the year is correct) USA today article.

Yes someone is billed for it, do you just think nobody will have to pay it back?

The article says $800 billion, I did the math myself based on 300 million people in the US.

This BILL raised the debt ceiling because it is necessary for the housing bail out.

I'm using averages here, I can't calculate the tax due on 300 million people.

Huh?

Oh, Ok, well, then, send them your check.

No doubt you've convinced some others to send in checks as well.

Me, I'll wait for my specific itemized bill.

Spellcheck man, I think you're seriously missing my point here.

I really don't think I'm missing the point the way you wrote it. You wrote you're being stuck with a $2600 bill x 5.

I've never seen a specific bill asking for money towards the national debt.

My point is: There's no incentive to pay it off, and no one will be issued a bill for it.

Economists used to think the National Debt and Federal deficit would translate to inflation and higher interest rates. The last 25 years, that hasn't been the case.

The general thinking of Congress isn't as such either. If it were they wouldn't be stuck in a $3-$5 trillion dollar war.

They do however pay interest on the debt. Basically overhead for running the country.

When the economy can't pay the interest on the debt, yes, it will collapse.

Hi Jerry, I'm researching the topic and will have it composed in a few days in the Faith section.

It has to do with the paradox "God Bless America," God given rights etc. And who one prays to.

hopefully they'll post it.

to say one is going to be billed for it is to also assume we will ever actually pay the debt off.

That debt has been there literally since Lincoln and will continue to always be there because government is not run like a business.

Saying each person owes $XYZ is just a tactic to try and win elections. To the average person it means nothing.

Because honestly the lowest 50% of income earners in this country pay less then something like 1% of the taxes. The people that would be saddled with the debt are those who make the top 50%

The numbers are even more skewed than that, rockslide.

The so-called "rich" pay the vast majority of the taxes. it's more like The top 15% of income earners pay over 60% of the taxes. Don't remember the exact stats, but that's close. The point is valid, the poor need to pay up.

spellcheck, and others, I gues maybe I'm missing your point.

I have no desire to send these idiots a check. I want my government to stop borrowing in my name, my kids' names, and my grandkids names. And the debt has NOT been there since lincoln.

It is increasing exponentially. It will crush us. Not if, when.

I don't have time to do all the research right now. But it's out there (I know I'll draw fire for that comment!)
