It's motorcycle season. That means that people like me, WingMan, biker-terry, jewwelsp and many other of our friends here will be out on bikes alot. In fact I ride nearly every day. I'm going to say this here to everyone because I'm tired of hearing it from other people directed toward me: BE CAREFUL.
It seems almost every day I get told by someone who has never ridden a bike that I should ride careful. Well guess what? 2/3 of the time in a car on bike accident, it's the CAR DRIVER'S FAULT. So maybe we bikers should be telling YOU non-bikers to be careful?
Furthermore, if I wanted to be careful I wouldn't ride a bike. I live my life for freedom, not security. I'd rather die like a man than live like a BOOGEDY. However I don't have a death wish either. So please spare me the endless stories of bike wrecks. We don't want to hear it, we don't care. I don't care what you saw 20 years ago. I don't care if you or your sister is an ER nurse. I don't care what you think about me or my bike or my lack of D.O.T. approved helmet.
The point is, statistically idiotic car drivers are taking us out at an alarming rate, then hypocritically blaming it on US either directly or indirectly. Then we have to listen to their horror stories, and how crazy and/or stupid we are. We're not stupid just because we're bikers. We're not "riding a donor mobile". We're living our lives the way we want to live them.
"We must be careful, so that we will arrive at death safe and sound".
Now there' some cannon fodder for the blog. With the helmet reference and my attitude, I be tthis one goes over 20 posts.... LOL
I see a lot of complaining about gas prices here on the blog. I've had it out with many of you in friendly debates about the cause of the increases in prices. Regardless of who you blame, there is something you can do about it.
BUY A BIKE!
As my blog name indicates, biking is the love of my life, so this is a no brainer for me. I ride anything on 2 wheels. I've got 2 road bicycles, a Trek and a Cannondale, a Schwinn Mountain bike, a Honda Shadow crusier, and the latest edition to my collection, a Rakatak enduro.
I bought the Rakatak brand new for $1450.00 delivered to my door. I got it last night. It did require about an hour or two of assembly, but once I got it put together, it started right up and took off!
As soon as i get it tagged, I'll be riding it every day to work. It gets 70mpg. I commute 7 miles each way every day. By my calculations, that's one gallon of gas a week to commute.
I used to ride my bicycles to work, but it's become impractical since I have to haul a laptop, take a shower, etc. But at 70mpg, I can easily justify the motor.
So now I'm taking pride in knowing that my reduced gas consumption is not only saving me money, but it's probably one less hand grenade in the hand of a terrorist, since a considerable amount of our oil comes from OPEC nations - most notable Saudi Arabia - who funds all the modrassas that turn out these terrorists.
I'm not trying to be self righteous here - but please consider a two wheeler if you can. The demand will drop, and so will the price. And in the meantime, maybe there will be a few less bullets flying in the middle east.
e-mail me if you want to find out more about the bike I bought - jpbikerfreak@yahoo.com
Instant idiots- just add water.
That advertisement should be embossed on quite a few cars in this area. Why is it that if there are 3 molecules of water anywhere on the surface of the road or the sky, people no longer know how to drive?
IT'S RAIN PEOPLE. Get over it!
I don't think I broke 8mph the entire way home tonight on I-35 because of W A T E R. You're not going to DIE! Depress the long, skinny, vertical peddle people. It will make you GO FORWARD, at speeds far in excess of 8mph.
