So, the Saudis, out of the goodness of their hearts, want to bless the world with an extra 500,000 - 800,000 barrels of oil per day to help us all meet our needs! On the face of it I suppose this seems like a great gesture. Don't be fooled! More oil from the Saudis is not going to make the price of fuel go down. It will lull us into a false sense of security and it will slow down development of our own oil reserves and of our alternative fuel industry.

Taking our national focus off of our need to become energy independant would be to the advantage of the Saudis and of OPEC because then we would still be their hostages and would continue to funnel our money into their economies.

Do something for America - buy a Flex Fuel Vehicle or have your current ride converted. Alternative fuels may not be the best bargain for the individual consumer in the short term but it will be of huge benefit to us all in the long term.

"It will lull us into a false sense of security?" Too funny!

Such a naive statement. Oil hit $140.00, today, a new record, before pulling back a bit. Maybe that's why they're pumping out more.

India, China, and Singapore----the regions of the world where things are made, are ectstatic about a temporary blip in the supply, but somewhat dissapointed on the price.

Americans rejoice again, the price at the pump went up 50 cents in the last month and just dropped .04 and they think all is well!

The reason we don't go to that area and look for the people that did 911 is because we get money backing and other things from them.

Spellcheck -
Is "It will lull us into a false sense of security" the only thing you got out of the blog?

If it is you either didn't read the whole blog or I'm not getting my point across.

Flex fuel vehicles are the worst idea to reduce our dependence on oil.

There is enough oil to power America for the next 150 years right under our own feet.

In another 20 years we would have real options to oil but until then all we are doing is driving up food prices and allowing democrats to take away more and more of our countries rights.

Galanthias -

Ethanol production is not driving up world food prices. Ethanol is not the primary fuel used to transport things today - gasoline and diesel fuel are and the increase in those prices are driving up food prices.

We do not eat the same kind of corn used in ethanol production - you are unwittingly furthering the propaganda of the oil companies who are scared to death of alternatives to their current stranglehold on the world economy.

We should all be content to say "let the oil stay in the ground if we can replace it with viable alternatives".

I agree with you about the Democrats but this is not a Republican/Democrat issue and Bill Oreilly agrees with me (Bill got on the bandwagon after I did).

I don't have a problem with exploration, drilling and expanding our domestic oil production but the stuff will eventually run out and we need to develop renewable alternatives before the need is critical (for me it became critical in 1974 but not everyone sees it that way).

I don't care how or what fuel source will wean us off their high priced oil. But we need to leave them behind and advance ourselfs towards a different energy diverse world. This factor will ensure our independence and strength. Let China and India fight over the last few drops of black crude.

I think it is humorous that the blame goes to the Democrats-history shows the Democrats have not always been in power-so what exactly has the Republican party done over the years? Actually, I really don't care-the important thing is for the federal government to find a solution-like drilling domestically.

independant. If anyone wants to correspond directly with me you can do so at jstol3@netzero.com. I see myself as both a conservative and a conservationist. I despise wastefulness but I don't want environmentalists telling me how to live my life. I'm all for a free market system except when it comes to energy. This is a monopoly thast needs to be regulated! I diverge from most conservatives when it comes to abortion and stem cell research as I belive in freedom of choice and scientific progress as I believe that we were given a brain to think with. Knee jerk reactions and one issue politics turn me off. I am both a Vietnam veteran and former Vietnam war protester (we should have been allowed to win). I am an advocate of the war in Iraq (as long as we do what we have to to win) and the war on terror.
