I write my best posts on Friday nights and on the weekends. Everyone else (almost) parties and does their weekend stuff. My best posts go to waste because no one else has time to read them on the weekend.
Yesterday (this takes the advantage of the perspective of time and age to write) liberals believed in unspeakable things: the equality of the sexes, the equality of the races, social justice, the transfer of wealth from one class to another, they questioned America's involvement in foreign interventions ( a nice name for war). They believed in picking up the trash along the highways and they believed that we could make the world a better place than it was.
Today's conservatives believe in those same things.
Today's liberals believe in gay marriage and conservatives fight it. Today's liberals believe that we all need to be saved from ourselves (smoking for instance). Many of today's conservatives also back smoking bans (an affront to individual freedom). Many of today's conservatives are ok with open homosexuality (anathema to conservatives not long ago) but are still against gay marriage. Many of today's conservatives agree that sometimes divorce is the best option (not accepted at all in the conservative community just a few years ago).
Many of you who consider yourselves conservatives are going to blast me on this blog and will say - "no not me" and a number of liberals will gloat.
The truth is that, as a nation, we are now way far left of where we were just 50 years ago and still headed in that direction.
They say that the "pendulem swings". During my lifetime it has swung towards the left. I wonder how long it will be before it swings to the right.
The presidency of George Bush is just a blip on the radar. We really have not even begun to swing to the right yet.
Food for thought for both the liberals and conservatives of today in America.

independant. If anyone wants to correspond directly with me you can do so at jstol3@netzero.com. I see myself as both a conservative and a conservationist. I despise wastefulness but I don't want environmentalists telling me how to live my life. I'm all for a free market system except when it comes to energy. This is a monopoly thast needs to be regulated! I diverge from most conservatives when it comes to abortion and stem cell research as I belive in freedom of choice and scientific progress as I believe that we were given a brain to think with. Knee jerk reactions and one issue politics turn me off. I am both a Vietnam veteran and former Vietnam war protester (we should have been allowed to win). I am an advocate of the war in Iraq (as long as we do what we have to to win) and the war on terror.
